seeing that frame traps aren’t a real threat due to throws being bad, you don’t really have any option to open up the opponent. his overhead is slow and doesn’t yield anything but a bit damage. with f.hk you can do some nasty oki stuff, but that’s not a real threat either due to wakeup roll…
I tend to think that he needs to be played rather defensively, instead of rushing people…
Zonk combos in the corner feel awesome tho. just did it to a poor online opponent.
From the looks of it nope, a lot of characters are just copy paste, with a few changes here and there to compensate for the play style of this game, whether it be input changes or just so they aren’t too OP. Trust me if Cody had his LP CU game from Alpha 3, he’d be a huge threat anywhere. HIs corpse hop game can be a good tool though, you can probably time it so they mess up their roll and it doesn’t come out (just a thought) or to push them to roll themselves into the corner. Gotta think outside of the box here, since throws aren’t a huge threat you have to make your opponent want to get the pressure off you, whether it be wasting bar or mashing something.
As long as Cody’s footsie game is good he shouldn’t really have to worry about much.
I am totally used to his (semi-) unsafe specials ^^ But I am also used to his frametraps xD
What I really like about him… his Anti airs ^^ I think yesterday I did more antiairs than all time in SFxT before
Do you use him as point blank character? I am not really sure until now. I think Guy x Cody could be a really deadly team. I just can’t play with Guy ^^
I also have to train my Combo execution with him. I often wanted to do cr.LP, cr.LK x CU and many times I got my A(B)C combo from cr.LK and st.HP ^^
Buffering a chain after a mk slide at distance seems really good, they do anything that moves themselves forward and they eat a full combo and it’s pretty had to punish.
Buffering mk after a c.lk when playing footsies is pretty good also and safe at that range.
I was at my best with him when I played defensively, making characters come to me. His damage potential is huge and he has solid anti airs. Overall, I enjoyed the character quite a bit last night.
I think his ground game is still there but it’s a lot harder… I learned that if you time the crack kick just right after L ruffian kick the opponent has to roll the opposite way of where they originally supposed to roll. I’m just trying to figure out how useful this tactic is.
Just got the DLC character pack and I’m messing with Cody right now and wow… his forward+HK is GODLIKE! you can do: j.HK > f.HK > c.HP > super/whatever.
ex zonk is just like it’s in ssf4. normal zonk still sucks. ex cu might be good. the one time I used it as reversal it won over the opponents move - but didn’t tested anything yet in that regard.
Regular zonk seems to have less invincibility than in AE, so it’s not a good option. I’ve tried EX CU a few times and lost to quite a few normals. EX zonk is still the go to wake up move if you need to do it.
Yeah, realized that, too. Regular zonk seems to have not enough invinc. frames if the high hitting move is already active Couldn’t counter Vega’s Punch Walldive ~.~
