Cody General Discussion

Yeah. Did a long set with a friend. Regular zonk lost to Juri’s overhead, many of Hwoarang’s normals. Some of Bryan and Kuma’s normals as well. For Juri’s OH to beat it…it might have none. I dunno.

that’s a huge frame window. 3 frames at least.

made a quick vid about codys cr. lk st. mp chain links

Cody’s never going to be bad with that 3f c.lk.

I’m really not seeing the ‘Cody is a meter hog’ or ‘frametraps are useless in this game’. Sure, the reduced threat of throws makes frametraps less effective but his overhead switch cancelled into a full combo is enough to make people trigger happy with the buttons.

It’s not a frametrap if you got jabbed out of it, that’s kinda the point.

That’s right, I just reread my post and thought “uuhrhrhgrm” xD
He has some nice things with his 3 frames short. I just think I am too stuck with the Cody frametraps we had in AE.
Time for some new stuff

btw. After a backthrow we have some serious safejump afterwards. Just hold up forward after the throw. Don’t know exactly but really looks like a 4 frame safejump or sth…

Anyone can react to you jump in and roll. Those obvious safe jumps are pointless in this game.

Of course they can… But if they don’t roll (this really happens sometimes! :D), you have a good safejump.

Aaah, yesterday was a good day ^^
I first began with Law/Cody… I only won 1 match, I was just too scrubby. Then I warmed up with my brother, changed to Cody/Law.
After an hour he quit and I started ranked again. I lost no single match. Very good aarrrr xD
Law is a great partner for Cody. One good reason are his Shaolin kicks. You can tag in, charge zonk and get a full corner Combo

I’m running Cody/King - what kind of gems should Cody be using? Since I’m a basic level player, I’m using all defense on King (per someone’s recommendation), what do you guys suggest for Cody?

Depending on the position you are playing him.
As second I would say Meter, Power activating on launch. Another power activating after 5 connected normals.

On point probably power (again activate after 5 normals), that orange life gem (fortitude? get hit by 2 specials) and depending how meter hungry your second is, probably a meter gem.

If you often exploit your second char as a combo extender to tag back to your point, it can make sense to give cody 3 gems that activate when he launches.

All fortitude and life gems are good if you are beginning. You stay in the match longer so you learn more.
That said, once you get a little better King NEEDS onslaught gems, either on him, his partner, or both. His command throws need to be exed to avoid being jabbed out of, RAS gains a lot of invincibility and you can safe raw tag out of the ex one, this team does high damage so frequent tag cancel combos would be aces, and I most importantly ex konvict kick is the absolute key to King’s game.

So either load cody up on defense like king, or give him some onslaught. Do not know too much about him but i am sure he likes more meter. As for which, level 2 onslaughts are the best, and the choice is up to you. Do you attack with a lot of safe pokes, or throw out a lot pf specials? It would not activate till the start of midgame, but maybe give both two fortitide/life gems and the onslaught (@)activate on partner launcher?

-meter on 4 block
-100 absorb if you get hit by a 5 hit combo

  • unsure. hitting with 4 specials doesn’t seem as effective for him. will most likely use another shielding gem.

Which number is this fortitude gem?
Didn’t think about it much. At the moment I am just using damage gems (10, 17, 18). Pretty funny with Cody xD

I keep getting slide when I want c.lk x s.mk dammit! Get blown up for it usually.

I somehow seem to struggle with Cody under pressure.
Any tipps?

smart placed alpha counter is the most effective imo.

Well yeah, still too bad to really rely on it

Any other ideas?

-ex zonk if you can anticipate - slow, risky and takes meter, good damage tho
-back jump lp if you see an opening - not* much* your opponent can do against that; you’ll back away tho and “only” reset the pressure
-back dash… well it still sucks, but has it’s uses, stil…
-c.lk if you can see a gap - risky sometimes, but it’s very fast and stops momentum

  • alpha counter - is the only one that you can actually visual confirm and use accordingly, if you know when. costs a bar tho.

Great, some really nice ideas. Iseem to struggle most against crossups. I feel, there’s not much to do besides blocking, then they can start mixup for free. Guess it’s just me not having enough confidence and experience with the char.

I think you know that character really well. Have you got any match footage of yourself? Would like to watch you play a few matches

Still can’t decide on my second: Dudley, Cody or Hwoarang? Mmmmh
