Ultra 2 can be combo’d into very easily. **

It is not strict at all. There are atleast 2 ways you can combo into it that I know of so far.

bad stone and mp. Neither is all that strict. You just need to get the timing right and it’s easy. You can also combo into U2 from c.mp as well.

bad stone+Ultra 2 is designed to beat fireballers. Bad stone cancels out opponents fireball, then U2 hits cleanly. Ex stone works too.
I’ve also combo’d into it from regular s.mp and the close range s.mp. You can do it off a c.lp, s.mp combo

You can also combo into U2 off a knife throw, but you wont get all the hits. Only the dust kick at the start will hit if you try to combo after the knife throw.

hp->CU is a beast too. 260 damage for a very easy link.

Super can also be combo’d into a lot of very(VERY) easy ways so it is definitely worth saving your ex bars.

U2 combo’d after a stone throw is only 6 hits. U2 off a s.mp is 15 hits and does way more damage.

I too main Akuma (before that, Ryu), and last nite I got to play Cody vs. Dudley for couple of hours, this is definitely my new main. Fun, good bag of tricks, good stamina/stun compared to where I came from, c.HP is glk AA, Ruffian kick mixup is great, hitconfirmable comboes, equal good offence/defence.
I took all the 24 trials, just as easy to do as effective in-game, easy to do your own variations (leave out the jump-in starter etc.)

Dunno if this has been asked/answered already, but what are Cody’s wakeup options? I played several hours against Guy and pretty much everything I tried kept getting stuffed. I guess I didn’t try EX zonk knuckle, which I’ll try next time, but that doesn’t seem very safe if whiffed.

Man… maybe it’s just cause I’m still learning Cody, but the Guy matchup seems really tough for him.

How is Guy playing you? If he’s using the run command alot, you can use Crack Kick.

Just a ton of mixups. He beats most of my attacks in the air as well. I didn’t play cody in alpha 3 much so I don’t know how he compares, but it seems that I don’t quite “get” him yet :wink:

You can actually slide under a bad crossup attempt as well to get out of the mixup. EX Zonk Punch will definitely beat out anything Guy attempts to do. The only thing that can possibly beat it is a far command run into slide from Guy. His hit box shrinks really close to the floor causing you to whiff. Slide under all Bushin flips to avoid the mixup.

Guy has priority over Cody’s far pokes, so you have to sit and play the whole counter hitting game against him.

You can even slide under his overhead run kick and counter with a c.Jab~c.Strong xx CU.

You can hit HK Ruffian kick at its max range and still FADC to Ultra. There’s really no timing to it, just hit it, FADC and immediately Ultra. Of course if the combo you are doing knocks you far away enough, you’ll miss HK Ruffian

(On crouching opponent) Jump in MK, Standing MP, Close Standing MP, Crouching HP, Criminal Upper/Ruffian Kick

Seriously it’s not as simple as that, I spent about an hour in practice mode trying it out and it seems that depending on where the HK ruffian hits and the oppoenents hitbox (Dudleys was one of the harder ones) the Ultra1 can wiff even if done immediately.

Doing certain long strings into say cr.LK xx HK Ruffian FADC midscreen can push the opponent too far so the initial Ultra1 hit misses. Even HellTpm said the same thing.

What would people say is Cody’s best use of meter?

So if you have no meter and wanted max damage what would you use? If you had one stock what would you use, if you had 2 stocks etc etc.

I’ll have to try it on other opponents then since i’ve only done it on a few but everytime I hit HK Ruffian kick, i’ve hit ultra so i’ll do some more testing on other characters, but thus far I did a Cr. Jab, Cr. Jab, Cr. Jab, Cr. LK xx HK Ruffian FADC Ultra on Dudley and it worked. What combos should I be doing to test it out?

edit: I just tried Cr. Jab (x3), Cr. MP xx Ruffian Kick FADC Ultra and it hasn’t worked though I swear I thought it did once (Might have been just two jabs).

Cody Combos… Everything Links into Everything

use F+MP a lot. It is your best combo starter, followed by close standing mp. Starting combos with close fierce leaves damage on the table.
F+MP will lead to close mp which leads to crouching fierce, standing the opponent up, making it easy to combo into ultra. all 1 frame links but it ain’t no thang

f+mp, mp, crouch mp xx criminal upper
f+mp, mp, crouch fp xx criminal upper (add a jump in before it for bonus points, does almost 400 damage no meter)
f+mp, mp, sweep

This guy has sick link combos

strongest no-meter follow up to ruffian launch - jump straight up fierce (spacing dependent). does 10 more damage than f+rh

What do you guys recommend off a focus attack crumple?

Just st.HP/cr.MP into whatever?
Or f+MP into link combos?

b+mp is a freakin’ godlike AA

Was I imagining things or does it really knock back opponents farther than the usual AA normals??

Havin trouble linking mp into ex zonk knuckle any suggestions?

Is it just me or is Cody supposed to be a rushdown character? I remember people saying he’s “a zoning character” but fuck that - rocks are terrible and his pokes aren’t fantastic. He has three moves that move him forwards and tons of frame advantage on everything… he can safely chip people with jab criminal upper and he moves faster forwards than backwards :lol:

That, plus I also am getting the impression that he is not very good. Doesn’t really feel like a complete package since he is so completely fucked on defense, doesn’t even have a good backdash to help him out

not your imagination. It has a lot of hitstun on it, maybe that affects how far back the other guy will go?
standing close roundhouse is also godlike, it has a lot of priority for a move like that and destroys anybody above Cody’s head
