I’ll say it again. She picked up everything to move across the country for a job she clearly never vetted in any capacity. If you’re moving across the country for work as a single parent your first priority is that it’s a stable job, and she couldn’t even manage to guarantee that much.
As for Part 3, she left…while not at any point guaranteeing Daniel a place to live. There was absolutely no guarantee that Miyagi could take Daniel in.
I don’t doubt she means well, but she never thinks anything through. Unsurprisingly that trait was passed onto Daniel wholesale.
I don’t know how a struggling single mother is on par with a drug addict parent and abusive psychopath role models. She was still a positive influence on Daniel even if she was trying to work it all.
Didn’t say she was. Obviously Johnny had a far shittier life in general. And Daniel with Miyagi’s influence SHOULD be a far better person than the prick he is. Definitely not arguing that. I just don’t like everyone glamorizing the shit Johnny did in Movie 1 as if he’s absolved of blame.
The main difference and why Johnny is the protagonist now is that he recognizes the pattern is actively seeking to become a better person whereas Daniel proceeds to pretend he has the moral high ground.
She didn’t leave in part 3 though. Daniel lied to his mother about the day that he was to get back from Japan so he could spend more time with Mr. Miyagi. Then she had to take care of some sick loved one of something so she was pretty much absent from the 3rd movie outside of a few phone calls.
At least from what I can recall.
Of course this was after Daniel used his college funds to travel to Japan against his mothers wishes. He then uses the rest of his college funds to buy a place for Mr. Miyagi to open up a bonsai store. Daniel made himself homeless and left Mr. Miyagi with no choice but to take him in.
I love the character growths (and even regressions) in the show. Johnny’s growth as a mentor and overall human being has been nothing but remarkable. It also seems much more natural than the cliched “epiphanies” you see on other tv shows.
Daniel on the other hand is similar to when Tyson lost Cus D’Amato, he starts to get directionless and too self-involved, making him prone to start a pointless fights. I actually thought his wife was going to leave him by season’s end but fortunately he got his shit together before that. But with Ali in the mix next season things might get dicey.
Hawk’s complete descent from being a victim to an overconfident bully and now a completely insecure sociopath has been rather sad. He’s been given so many chances to come back to the light side this season but he’s just going full Anakin. Kreese might be the death of him if he stays on this track.
Speaking of Kreese, I like that they made him into the irredeemable psychopath he’s always been. Some people just can’t change and I’m glad the show didn’t make him into another “Johnny Lawrence.” I hope that scumbag gets what’s coming to him next season when Lawrence and LaRusso team up.
Robby now being on the lam creates an interesting scenario as he’s a good kid who made an impulsively bad decision. I think it will take Miguel’s forgiveness to set him back on path, but near-paralysis is a lot to forgive.
Ali being the potential plot linchpin for LaRusso and Lawrence is interesting as both are not in the best of places and their love lives are in dire straits. So it will be interesting seeing how they act around her.
It’s funny that a low budget teen show is pulling off better character development and more feels than certain big budget tv shows. Reminds me of how amazing The Booth at the End was.
Simply put, Youtube would not commit to ordering any more seasons as they’re moving away from scripted shows. Sony said forget it and asked them to allow Sony to shop around CK to a new distributor who actually would commit to more seasons. Youtube said okay but wouldn’t release CK until they officially found a new home.
Completely cool with that, so long as everything stays the same and we don’t get a butchering. CK is just so absolutely amazing, refreshing and nice since it’s a series that is fun to watch, has great character development without it delving into all of the current political garbage that most movies/series these days try so hard to shove down our throats.
I’m so happy that it’s about the damn characters, not about their gender or some stupid crap like that, and it’s refreshing, since Daniel and Johnny are from a different time period and it’s nice to see, but more importantly great to see how they are imprinting upon a new generation.
A long wait, but really looking forward to S3, especially now that Ali is on the way, that love triangle is going to get serious, however Daniel shouldn’t bite the bullet, because his wife is smoking.
Why would get the impression that would happen? Daniel is married. Ali is married. And it looks like they are going to eventually hook Johnny up with Miguel’s fine ass mama.
