My brother once worked for a period as a security guard for a school that unfortunately was located in the ghettos before he moved to a different location and got his nice head security working at a company now. He can attest that what we saw at the end here is straight up legit, and actually very tame to some of the things he’s seen (besides the part where you see Miguel falling off the 2nd floor of course).
Heck, growing up in the 90s as a teen, luckily I was going to a private school (for reasons I’ll state later) however for one particular public school to have literally, royal rumbles outside between 30-50 students because of “gang” affiliated reasons.
I remember it being shown on the news a few times, and my two cousins whom went to that school said that they had gotten used to it since it happened every so often. I remember it got bad enough that this particular school would have police vehicles along with individuals from that squad there during lunch hours and when the school was ending every day for a couple years until it cooled down finally.
This was during the height of the gang era during that time period and it was pretty ugly back than, which is reasons why my parents put me and my siblings into private schools so that we wouldn’t get influenced nor be caught up in these situations. Thank Goodness!
Robbie is gonna be on the run for season 3? By the finale his relationship with Daniel soured, being the cause of Miguel incident will kill his chances with Sam and his dad. He’s completely fucked.
I like how season 1 ended with people gravitating more towards Robbie and away from Miguel and by the end of season 2 now the roles have been reverted. I would like to see where they take Robbie from here coping with the sense of guilt, probably leading to an arc where he gets closer to Johnny.
I also felt for poor Johnny, man can’t really catch a break, and how his good intentions fall flat and everyone still gets on his shit.
Would like to see how Johnny and Daniel team up to deal with Kreese’s Cobra Kai in season 3, probably dealing with Johnny trying not to let his former students end up like him
Daniel is over Ali. When it comes to his past its Cobra Kai and Miyagi he’s still hang up on. Ali is only a thing with him when he and Johnny are together which makes sense as she was the initial cause of their conflict. Losing Miyagi is what fucked him up.
Nah I don’t think he’s 100% over Ali but you’re right, it’s mainly due to how it ties back into his issues with Cobra Kai. If he was over her he wouldn’t have been creeping on her FB page without even friending her. He would’ve either not been looking at all, or he would’ve friended her normally.
It’s not like I think he’d drop Amanda’s ass for her, especially since Amanda remains the only source of common sense in the show, but you can sense he still places her on a bit of a pedestal. Not as big as Johnny of course, but still lingering there.
As for his issues with Miyagi…
Summary
Yes, losing Miyagi did fuck Daniel up big time…but at the same note it shows that Daniel really took very little Miyagi taught him to heart. It’s almost like the man cannot fully function without him unless the world fully caters to him. He continuously goes after Cobra Kai despite them not actually starting shit until Season 2. He creates the Dojo after Miyagi explicitly says that Miyagi-Do is only meant to be passed on to families. Hell he even acknowledges the fact that Miyagi would outright say to not build this damn dojo. He also ignores the basic tenants of Miyagi-Do that he showed to Robbie.
It’s only supposed to be used for Defense and Protection. But instead it’s very clear that he abuses this “facet” to pick fights while trying to look like the moral victor, something that was passed onto his students. This isn’t limited to his time without Miyagi either. Literally as early as KK1 we see him enjoying needling people when he feels he has the advantage. When he tells Sam and Robbie he’s proud of them for fighting off Cobra Kai you can see his warped outlook. Miyagi was never happy about using his skills on other people, even in tournaments. He would’ve focused on being glad for their safety and that’s it. Daniel on the other hand praises them specifically for fighting Cobra Kai off which only further emboldens both Sam and Robbie.
If you really think about it both Johnny and Daniel created dojos where they didn’t fully understand the tenants of its creators and begin to try and warp them. The difference is that Johnny ultimately did learn the full depth of the issues of Cobra Kai and worked to adjust them as he could before Kreese did him in. Specifically he could’ve kept going the same route and had a ton of success, with Kreese supporting him but chose to go against the grain knowing that it would be more difficult and ultimately be at his detriment. Daniel on the other hand by the end of Season 2 still doesn’t fully get what he did wrong. He can’t see beyond what he feels is beneficial to himself and detrimental to his opponents.
But ultimately now they’re at the same place. Both lost their dojos, Johnny pretty much lost everyone close to him, Daniel is probably on the edge of getting his ass divorced. Still can’t believe they went that dark to end the season.
Just in case anyone actually wants to own Cobra Kai: the first season is now available on most digital platforms (iTunes, amazon Prime video, google play etc) for $14.99
everything your saying about daniel is literally why hes been the badguy of the series since the first movie. All this shit and going after johnny has been daniels m.o
Daniel is definitely the villain…but Johnny was too, let’s not get shit twisted. They were both fucked up in the first movie. Everyone was outside of Miyagi himself.
You can be led down the wrong path and still be an asshole who makes his own choices. Notice Bobby who generally was the one who tried and stop the beatdowns and was immediately apologetic when he nuked Daniel’s leg.
Like Hawk currently. Hawk is a complete asswipe. You can argue bad influencing, but the kid is just a dick.
bobby also wasnt taken directly under kreese’s wing. we already know everything about johnnys life kinda set him up for failure from his home life, to losing the only good thing he had to having his only role model basically be a murderous satan.
If he’s never been taught what are the right choices how can he make the.Daniel always had positive role models how taught him the right way to do things. Johnny had the wrong people who taught him the wrong things. He’s a kid not an adult. Kids are robots who are programmed young on which way they should go and that shit gets more and more hard wired as they get older. Teens and early adulthood it gets more perm.
Im prob more lient because I teach martial arts to kids and have as little ones who came from bad places. And parents don’t even realize how bad they influence these kids. Watching little kids say they wanna kill someone because that’s what they hear and see the abuse in places.
That isn’t actually the truth either. We know nothing on his dad and his mom, what we’ve seen of her isn’t good. She picked up and moved everything for a job that ended up collapsing almost immediately upon arrival before she had to scramble and get a menial one. Then she basically abandoned Daniel while she personally went back home. All Daniel has had is Miyagi and as we saw, one good role model can only do so much to straighten you out over time. Especially Daniel who had become all but dependent on Miyagi to function.
And it shows with how the two are. Johnny became an obvious prick, Daniel a passive aggressive one.
His mom didn’t abandon him though. His dad died when he was young and she clearly needed the money. She did it for the family… I don’t know how that makes her not good. Johnny’s mom is a drug addict and hoe.
I don’t know what you mean she abandoned him… When? I don’t remember this. I know she left during part 3 to help a family member who was really sick and they were in a good place.
