I think it was inevitable that Cobra Kai was still the kinda sorta “badguys” because Johnny has yet to really confront the “No Mercy” part of the creed.

he has yet to deal with his own insecurities left by kreese. the man nearly killed him as a kid, hes basically in a abusive marriage and i guarantee theres gonna be some real subtext to the abusive marriage cycle. how he’ll say hes not like that and he wont harm him or the kids.

It wasn’t even the “no mercy part”.

I think it was about embracing the CK way.

Until the very end with Daniels daughter, everytime he applied the cobra kai way, things turned out well for him. He beat up the kids that bullied him. He was starting to get the girl. Won the respect of his friends, and classmates. Won the tournament, and now his mom might start dating Johnny.

He’s found a formula in life that is turning his life around for the better. We generally see this also working for two of his closest friends, Hawk and the black girl. So that reenforces that what CK is teaching actually works irl.

How we are starting to see shades of it failing with Daniels daughter, and we’ll have to see how long in season two this lasts before he gets the hint that he needs some balance.

I wasn’t talking about the girl but about miguel and hawk being portrayed as the badguys kind of. That was SPECIFICALLY because of “No Mercy”, Johnny even showed some uncertainty regarding it.

That’s why I said “kind of”. I know they aren’t badguys, but they were definitely coming off as way more aggressive than necessary, which was how Cobra Kai has always been. Like, it’s one thing to be confident, and another to just be an uncaring ass(not saying they became total assholes, but some of em are heading down that direction). Like, you realize there’s such a thing as being overconfident right? The problem isn’t that they gained the ability to change things in their life, the problem is going too far with “no mercy”. The only thing in this life that doesn’t deserve mercy is like, situations where justice is being meted out fairly in a court of law toward a proven criminal.

I gotta say that this very enjoyable series. I think a lot of viewers don’t realize that this is Johnny Lawrence’s story and not the kid or Larusso’s. The victory that Johnny Lawrence received was hollow and showed his growth. I also like that while his brand of mentorship helped his students, especially Hawk, become more confident, but ultimately also came with consequences.

The comedy, the nostagia, and action was on point for the most part, my only real issue was Miguel turning to the Sith so abruptly, I didn’t mind the decision but the way it happened didn’t feel real. Still I know it was done solely to make for an interesting redemption story next season.

Can’t Wait! This is going to be the most epic two months of 2018. We have this, Into the Badlands, GoT, Shazam, Avengers, then in May we have Godzilla on top of that…

With Cobra Kai, my prediction is that eventually Daniel and Johnny will unite under one tree which will become the “true” balance imo, probably like a YinYang sort of thing. It seems like this is where it will eventually lead to as some point.

I can imagine both of those guys being in their 80s and saying “Remember when we fought over a girl. Then we started our own dojos, and now we’re hanging out and drinking beer while listening to Guns and Roses.” “Wax on Wax Off my friend!”

This is such a Great Series, and I’m anxious to watch it when S2 hits.

I’m still a little nervous about the old Cobra Kai sensei being in there at all but I’m pretty optimistic overall
