CNC Machined Cases - 2nd Batch Taking orders ( Post #228 Pg 10 for details) 7/16/10

Wanted to post a reminder to get the bottom template to Art.

I also got measurements for the bottom template from one of the members who has one.

His measurements for the bottom were:
12" x 8 1/2"

With the holes being 3/8" from the corners
With 2 more, being 3/8" in from the long side and centered at 6"

Nam could you verify these measurements?
I’ve also made a photoshop document, if it’s helpful in getting the bottom template to Art.

Good job FA-MAS, sad that we have to do this rather than Nam just giving us the dimensions for his own product huh?

Everything seems on the mark since I just measured mine also, except one tiny thing. The corners are rounded to “sink” properly. Holes are for 6-32 threads by the way.

Also the possibility of a design change or him deciding not to make this batch.

I’m pretty sure that Nam’ll make the batch. He’s got the materials and had already started before the big job came in. I understand he’s busy with that. I also wonder what’s involved in sending a template to Art, I dunno. Maybe there’s some complicated conversion of the file or something. I just thought I’d see if I could help out if it’s as simple as a just getting the dimensions.

It’s just that we’re getting closer to the expected completion time of the cases (end of the month), and it’ll take time for Art to make the panel if you were to order it from him. It just means an additional wait to be able to use the case.

Twinkle, would you be able to measure the thickness of the Bottom Panel?

I’ve also updated the template I made. I took the picture you sent of the corner, scaled it to the correct size, traced the corner and added it to my template.

Sure thing FA-MAS, it’s 1/8 inch thick. Triple checked measurements, it’s 12 x 8 1/2 x 1/8 inches with 6-32 holes.

I want cookies now…

Edit . . More cookies for Twinkle and Chocolate Milk.

His absence doesn’t have me worried. I only get to see the site like once a week if even right now due to work. I am ready for it to be a little later that what may have been projected.

Yeah, it’s been really bad here in California. We mostly work & don’t play now. Like I said it’s sad but as you can see, we do help each other.

Cookies & milk made me happy.

Hey Guys,

Apologies, for the lack of checkin, i’ve just been slammed with the project i was talking about and new orders. At this point I cannot commit to a time frame and instead of holding onto everyone’s money I am issuing a refund.

Please check your email inbox within the next 1-2 days.

Once again apologies for the dissappointing news. At the time when I had agree to mfg the cases business was slowing down and I was able to accomodate, but we had to wait for 2 months before we were able to get to the confirmed buyers.

If you guys have any questions let me know or you can give me a call or im me.

Thanks for your understanding.

Please remember that the decision to do this job was to help the community and not necessarily make any money. The opportunity costs for me to take on client work far outweighs this side project. But I admit that I should not have made a comment of acknowledgment and not follow through, so that is my fault.

Thanks for understanding

Got the refund. Anyone know any other good cases for all these parts I have? For a similar price…?

art’s case looks nice and solid.

would you be doing a run in the future?
if so do you think you can email me? I am one of the users who paid in full so you know that I am good for the money (and a timely response)

Edit: sucks tho cuz i bought stuff expecting the case to come :frowning:

if timeframe is an issue, i am willing to wait even until december or whatever…

In the future yes, I’ve already purchased materials and somewhat started on the project. It’s just that at this moment I cannot commit to a timeframe and i’d rather not be holding people’s money unless i know I can deliver.

I would think this would be a preferable route for all as well.

Email me and let me know when you are ready. I PIF for a black case. If you need my email address again just let me know.

These are the people that I have refunded the money so far. I’m still going through the list and refunding so please don’t panic if you don’t see your name yet. But it would help me if you chime in and let me know your name as well.

Thank you

Thank you for all the efforts Nam. Now you know what I meant when you asked me to wire for you before.

PM sent.

I will definitely buy a couple if you get the time to do the 2nd batch down the road. Good to hear you have large customer orders keeping you busy!

refund received, sad boosh…

keep us posted as I still want to pick up another one of these sometime.

I would just as soon you keep my money. Since gathering the funds took so long and was ultimately the demise of this effort, it seems like it may be in our better interest for you to hold onto what you’ve collected.

Others please chime in, but based on the number of paid in fulls and multiple stick orders, I think this group is pretty set on owning your specific case. I suspect many of us have already ordered parts that sit, awaiting their new home. I understand that at the moment you cannot commit to a time frame, but holding onto our money at least shows us you’re still committed to making the cases.

Perhaps another show of hands would be preferable to a blanket refund. Thus far folks have been very understanding regarding the delays. Considering the organizational hassels for you and the wait for us (I paid 3 months ago), it seems a shame to have to go through all that again.

I’ve refunded because I can’t commit to a date, and the last thing that I want to happen is to constantly go back to this thread and inform you of another delay. Holding your money is an obligation that is is required to be met.

Being that I cannot give you guys an eta on when i can restart this project, it would be much more simpler to just refund the money then to string everyone along… Eventually it would cause people to be pissed and I’d rather avoid that situation all together.

The materials are already bought and i’ve started the project somewhat, so it’s not as if i can back out of it on my end… I can;t go back to the vendor and ask them to take back the unused materials… For the parts that have been mfg I’ve incurred the costs on behalf of everyone as I have refunded in full and not partial.

Thank you for your interest in my cases though, and I’ll let everyone know when I am ready to restart…
