Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

I’ve been trying using vergil/Hawkeye/strider. It’s versatile and oh yeah… Greyhound shot is fast as fuck… Who knew. I get lots of frontal fg and l/r mixups…

Hey guys, can anyone tell me how exactly you’re supposed to use Ouroboros? I’m under the impression that you just activate it and frantically rush down while doing your normal combos and such - is this correct or is there a method or art to using it?

I think you guys that are saying don’t save X factor for strider are sending the wrong message. i definitely think if he’s on your team you should consider it during your play. obviously if you can win the match by popping your x factor use it. At least, that should be obvious to anyone who has been playing the game for more than a week. Strider has the ability to chew through an entire team and end up with 5 bars if you do the richard Nguyen combo. Which is something that you can also do off of the incoming solo bird mix up. there you have 2 dead characters unless its hulk and thor and 5 bars to go nuts. Spencer/Strider are usually my last two characters if i land a strider hit i otg them with spencer pop x factor kill them…then tag strider in mix up TAC back to spencer to use both bars. usually that ends the game the objective is to kill the other characters. if saving x factor works for you do it. you just have to analyze the situation and adapt accordingly.
IMO as far as team positioning strider should always be last. if you play him second his dhc’s are terrible first he gets mauled pretty quickly. Strider with xf3 is pretty damn scary i wouldn’t let worrying about 1 character vergil scare you off of having a strategy for one of the scariest anchors in the game.

My favorite strat is to pop x factor and let my opponent happy bday my first two characters, then use non xfactor strider to body their whole team.

Agreed with MGS, Strider is definitely best in 3rd spot.

As a general formula, character + vajra assist > Strider + assist.

I also think XF3 strider with orbs is the strongest character in the game. Stronger than XF3 dark phoenix or vergil. If their last character is coming in and you have XF3 + orbs you should be finishing them off with about a 95% success rate.

I apologize for being lazy but…

How do I approach/get in? ._.

Can we have a list of the best strider players from Jap to US?

There are advantages to both styles. Can xf3 strider run through a team? Yes. It is more unlikely to work though against good players/vergil. My position is that Zero with a team behind him is scarier than xf3 strider. So if I can save Zero by using xfactor I will do it. If I can xfgc vergil and kill vergil I will do it. I have been having better success personally playing that way but your results may be different.

And what is this Rich Nyguyen combo?

More on XF3 in general. Ever since Civil War 4 I’ve been convinced that the comeback ability of XF3 is overrated in general and not stronger overall to saving your point character or using xfgc to kill a problem character. That weekend I had a lot of long sessions with strong players, both playing and watching, where I witnessed a lot of early xfactors that reversed a bad situation before getting worse then ending in victory. Watch a lot of games with marlinpie, rayray, and predator to see what I mean. If you accept this game is momentum based and realize the unlikelihood of surviving a proper incoming mixup it seems fairly obvious that your comeback character is unlikely to make that comeback.

This idea of not getting to play your comeback character is weaker against zoning teams, like chris g or champ, where the incoming mixup is weaker than 4-5 consecutive 50/50’s or unblockables. My argument isn’t strider specific. In matches where you should not get to play him anyway it’s not a waste to blow xfactor early is my point.

Running Rocket Raccoon (Spitfire twice)/Doom (Plasma Beam)/Strider (Vajra) in that order. I came here wanting to get someone’s opinion on putting Strider last or Doom last. I don’t think Strider is a superb anchor, but I also think that Doom with Vajra is incredibly powerful. I have no idea which way to handle this. Thoughts?

Put Strider in 2nd for now since you’re not too good with him on anchor. Doom is a decent anchor so you’re alright.
If I were you, I’d still practice Hiryu as anchor because he’s good comeback material him being extremely fast and derpy with level 3 xfactor and whatnot. Just learn your mix ups and cross ups. And don’t mash H Vajra too much. It’s -7 (I think?) on block and you’ll never know when you’ll run into someone who’s smart enough to know how to counter it.
As for Doom on 2nd, this is just mostly depending on who you’re fighting. I agree, Vajra x Doom= Retarded. So if you’re comfortable with having Strider as anchor for the person you’re fighting, go for it. But since you’re not yet, just keep practicing.

Yeah, I’ve been playing this team for a while now. I still need to practice with anchor Strider, but I’m 100 percent confident in my RR/Doom. I’m also a little nervous about those incoming mixups on Strider if I put him on second.

Practice playing anchor without orbs. get so you don’t feel vulnerable and naked without orbs. xf3 strider is a beast if they are trying to block.
Strider has a double jump which is the best tool against incoming mixups. You can stay airborne without giving up your block.

One gameplan for xf3 strider is to xfgc the first character into ragnarok, then run wild on the second building back to 3 bars. then the third you summon orbs and run wild some more even after xfactors runs out.

I’m falling in love with this character all over again. SJohnst2 has the right idea. if you have 5 bars but if you’re a little low on meter doing the richard Nguyen combo into Legion. will get you about 900k-950k off of the first double jump S after the bird bomb hits. i’d use this if you need quick damage(in instances where you’re fighting 3 characters) otherwise i’d go for the full bird loop and build bar. strider coming in 2nd has to deal with waaay too much the double jump is cool and all but that allows people to air throw you and kill you. Excalibur is a good too to get out of sticky situations if you find yourself in the corner. In order to get my strider going…i’ll call the legion pop x factor teleport…now they have 4 guesses they have to get right or they die. My Success rate has been really high doing this…that leads to the bird bomb combo…so at least 2 bars incoming mix up for 2 more bars…orbs for the last guy. however if your x factor is getting low i’d save those last 3 bars for a ragnarok combo.

I don’t know if this has been discusses, but how good is point strider followed by a TAC monster?

Sorry Johnst i missed the post earlier. the Richard Nguyen combo i’m referring to is the xf3 bird bomb loop. i play zero/____/Strider as well. I just don’t believe there is a cut and dry situation where i’ve ever said i’m not going to use level 3 strider unless its going to win me the match its an excellent ace to have in the hole.

It works fine. Just don’t be predictable. I only go for tacs off stuff that’s going to be mega prorated anyway.

I really can’t imagine playing Strider without XF3 and making him viable. We’re playing a game where all the good characters kill in USUALLY, 1 combo. Strider needs 2-3 usually to take out most characters and the majority of his resets are throw resets it feels like, so that ends up being even more sometimes. Just to even the playing field, I feel like XF3 is needed. I mean, you CAN make him work with assists but you’d be better off just running Zero or someone with a similar gameplan that also kills.

At this point, after running Strider since final round anchor, I’m really just starting to feel like the odds are not in his favor. For being a glass cannon, he has some pretty shitty tools. Non x factored orbs are pathetic. At most you get like half life usually, if you can even open them up if you’re fighting a high caliber player. Ragnarok is inconsistent at the end of combos with formation B > level 3, so you have to use it at other points in your combo, making it almost pointless to waste the meter since it won’t even do that much. His teleports are god awful, they’re slow and put him way too high in the air. Wall cling is really easily air thrown. Vajra is unsafe. His supers do shit for damage and have almost no utility, can’t really be used in DHCs for anything substantial, and the animal super can lose to REGULAR PROJECTILES.

At this point i’m just playing the character for formation B cancels, st.C, being able to cover your approach with animals, and his short hop trick. But really, is that enough to constitute 750k health and some of the lowest damage output in the game? If there’s ever an update / rebalance, Strider really needs some love.

I think his ground speed is probably why he has such low health.

Strider is fine. Problem is most people dont use satellite to cancel recovery of moves and they go for risky things. You really have to play him safe with fast assists. Only thing he needs is a slight dmg increase and xfactor dmg decrease. Also Making Excalibur not an almost worthless move would be nice. Satellite should stay active longer and soft knockdown.
