Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

Strider is just deadweight on a Zero team IMO. Strider’s not a Dante where he’s a beast on point, beast dhc beast everything.

From what I seen, I would do something like Wesker/Strider/assist. Wesker is the best battery in the game and has an assist that can really increase Strider’s damage output. With Strider being somewhat like Phoenix, I think he probably works really well with Strider. I think Wesker/Strider/plasma beam is a good team for him.

strider and sentinel for sure. strider can put a ton of shit on the screen to cover his approach too, don’t forget that.

I don’t get why he has 750k health either. What options warrant him being made of wet paper? 900k would be ideal IMO.

I don’t see how Strider is dead weight on a Zero team but not on a Wesker team. Yes, Wesker’s assist looks at the moment more easy for helping Strider extend his combo, and that is because that assists extends everybody’s combos (abcs j.bbcs assist s j.bbcs). Creativity is the only obstacle into finding combos with Zero assists that would help Strider extend his combos.

You need to see how floe used strider, because he showed how powerful strider is.

Floe used Strider/Shehulk/Sentinel

Strider has teleports that are insane, teleport divekick, his damage output is pretty high, has great reach, can play projectile wars.

Strider deserves that much health. And will help keep Strider to his self.

Can’t wait for Orbs/teleport mixups incoming.

Well, it happened with Floe.

Oh ya, if they did bring Ouro back to the “hit on contact” kind of super, phoenix would literally have a real low chance. Since she is forced to rushdown due to the nerfed run away, she will become a sitting duck because teleporting would be suicidal.

Yup, he was playing so well with his Strider against DiosX…

I think that Strider is gonna need a team built specifically for him but when you get the team down hes gonna be a beast. I think that some of the best options for him is gonna be Ammy Wesker Doom Zero Tasky and Sent because each assit will help him get in and an assist like zero’s shoryu will help protect him or ammys bloom will act like morrigan to build him meter.

I’m thinking Oroboros should be a level 1 super, but only summons a single satellite. Using the super consecutively would send in another satellite, but disables the use of Ouroboros for a couple of seconds after it times out or something.

so…

mags/sent/cable/storm were the top 4 in mvc2…everyone hated them

wolverine/phoenix/akuma become the top team in mvc3…everyone hates them

are you strider players prepared to have the fanbase turn on your character if he becomes the best in the game? cause you know thats going to happen if thats the case. people only loved strider in mvc2 because he was the underdog, if hes topdog he wont be the peoples champ

Uh, Zero’s assists are not exactly great at extending combos (actually, I’ve ONLY seen Zero extend Dante’s combos. No other character get’s cool combo extensions from Zero). Zero’s assists are mediocre unless he’s in sougenmu, and if he’s being a battery for strider then you’re playing a pretty precarious game there (unless capcom keeps the uncounterable TAC glitch for some reason).

Strider’s assists may prove mildly useful to Zero (mostly the teleport kick assist), and if you’re willing to give up a hard knockdown you can still do most of his combo extension. I think it’s too early to call Strider “dead weight” on a Zero team, but Zero certainly has better options.

Something to remember though, is that this is not a Zero team, it’s a Strider team. Strider may not be the ideal assist for Zero, but we’re trying to maximize Strider, not Zero (much like how Zero is not Dante’s best assist, but since it’s “Zero’s team” you just deal with Dante not getting the best assist available in order to maximize Zero). Zero’s function here is to gain meter, not to straight up win the match (though that’s always pretty nice).

Just know that this kind of team doesn’t maximize Zero, and that Zero is not looking to be a good assist for Strider, so you’re likely to end up with Strider+Assist vs 3 characters (one of whom will probably be maimed though), only your Strider will have 3.5+ bars of meter to spend. I’d love to be proved wrong here though. Maybe the soft knockdown of Shippuga assist will lead to something, or maybe he’ll be able to get some decent damage with teleport kick after Ryuenjin.

The only thing i don’t like about Zero/Strider is the health, other than that it seems potentially great. Strider can assist himself well from what i’ve seen, Zero’s sword beam assist (what ever it’s called) can be used just for an added small cover, but animals and fireball orb look great as zoning tools. Maybe the change for strider is the teleport, since i heard it has 2 frames of recovery.

Fuck dude… Orbs is 3 meters? Thats a huge fucking nerf… When orbs becomes 1 meter, he is gonna be top tier hands down though.

So overall, mvc3 Strider is a powered up version of mvc2 Strider similar to vanilla Wesker/Wolverine w/o the need of Orbs? That’s gonna suck for some mvc2 Strider players who want to play him like mvc2 style in mvc3. The Orb is the just the cherry on top now as someone else said.

I really want to see Floe’s Strider cuz Clockwork’s Strider disappointed me except for that one time he XF w/ Orbs.

THEY SEE ME STRIDIN’, THEY HATIN’

I am ready. Thankfully UMVC3 was announced before people realized how good Zero is.

Magneto gets an extra :h: and the :h: version of Hyper Grab (which you can probably do an extra hyper grav loop). Doom gets and extra corner loop. Tron I think can go for longer combos and just finish her combos with OTG Rock + Ryuenjin into the upward trap shot. EvilToast did a video on how Ryuenjin extends Amaterasu’s combos (she can even finish a combo with Glaive QCF.:s: even if she used the ground bounce). I think it is really a matter of creativity, you’re a Zero player, you should know that.

I know that. I just like Zero+Strider because their are my favorite video game characters (Niitsuma spoiled me). It was not because I was unbeatable potential or anything. If I wanted a Strider team though, I would go Doom-b/Strider-y/Sentinel-a or Amaterasu-b most probably. Quoting Combofiend, I am “gonna make my team work by force”.

Are you able to play Storm/Sentinel/Iron Man etc MvC2 style in MvC3? Why should Strider be an exception to the rule? MvC3 is about being less trap based than MvC2, and the orbs being one of the most powerful trap of them all is always going to be different in MvC3. So far from what I have seen they have done a great job reinventing Strider as the Yun of MvC3, very powerful and hard to deal with but a glass canon that’s not invincible. I just hope that they do not make the mistake of making him too powerful.

I think Zero/Strider would work ok. You would need a good comeback character for the 3rd, i think.
