Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

Has there been any strider/ rocket raccoon tech figured out yet?
Maybe you could do what ageojoe was doing with v.joe and RR, pendulem assist and red hot kick. Hard to block and almost always got the hit. But instead of red hot kick i think striders wall cling shananigans could do the trick?
With the heavy-gram hard tag tech you could also come up with interesting combos or set-ups With RR. RR and spencer also can do unblockables or very nasty resets im pretty sure with slant shot.

Just throwing it out there to you guys. I wanna see strider better… I hate all the vergil wesker zero crap runnng around…

In the RR video thread, there’s a guy playing RR / Strider / Ammy. There’s some tech in there. Should be one of the more recent videos. I’m using that team and it’s pretty fun.

Ahhhh, i had this essay written out, but i’ll make it short instead. i just want to thank all you guys for the support that is given to the community of ninjas. Everyone’s contributions, whether it be sick combo vids, new tech, intricate strategy on using the character, comments, or questions. i haven’t played in some time and might start up again. If i do, which is likely to be the case, ill still be running old clock. Again, i give my thanks.

Yeah he was at Final he lost to Kusoru or just money matched him he has some casual matches nothing too new this is him vs kusoru

I really love reading your posts man (especially on Strider), but no idea’s original, sorry. Whatever you know, is not tech you’ve “made up.” It’s simply something you’ve figured out on your own before someone else. As option said, only the designers at Capcom know the fullest extent of these characters, but it’s up to us to study them and learn more and more of their potential. With that said, yes it does suck to teach someone something then a few hours/days/weeks later see them post it on Youtube and take credit. However, I can assure you that this early in the game’s life, tech will be figured out regardless and claimed at any point.

However, this is part of the reason why the community is disjointed and not leveling up properly. Nothing against you for holding back whatever knowledge you have (esp with EVO around the corner), but we should all pool information and level up together, instead of hiding tech from each other.

first off yes, you can have tech you made up. Mvc2 was that type of game where it was so broken you can actually “invent” shit. That mentality isn’t there for modern games. They’re much more restricting than they once were.

and capcom doesn’t know the fullest extent of the characters. That shit is a fucking joke otherwise they would have never made dark phoenix like that in vanilla only to nerf her for ultimate or the use of the DHC glitch to cause extra damage which they ended up taking out anyway. So if they knew, why didn’t they fix it to begin with?

you guys give wayyyy too much credit to capcom over 80% of their best games have been glitch fests that basically play against what the developer wanted. Know your history. 91-01 are some of the buggiest tournament games of all time.

I used to play storm in vanilla and me and fanatiq would always trade tactics echnology and I had mentioned to him 1 time that I figured out a storm glitch that gave her more options. He asked me not to post it up so we could still use it and here we are 16 months in the game and that specific storm glitch still isn’t removed. There is a reason to hold onto technology, if everyone uses it and its deemed broken, it gets taken out. However, you can be the first person to use it in a tournament or several tournaments before it gets removed and have an advantage on the competition.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 was a bad example for this argument but I’m happy you used it in your rebuttal before I did. You can indeed have tech “made up” in that game-- however it’s based on hitbox data & glitches/ game mechanic flaws that were discovered by players. MvC2 was a gigantic mix of both, including most loops and Mag’s launcher flaw. If patch updates were possible then, we’d be playing a much different MvC2 (and MvC3) right now.

However that was then, and this is now; Capcom has a much more vested interest in these games post 2009, and knows much more of what these characters can do. For this reason I do indeed give them much more credit in knowing what’s going on. The only reason why they “nerf” anything is when they feel a certain mechanic or statistic will be abusive or very unfavorable in match ups (specific vanilla loops, Sent’s health, etc). And yes, they full well knew Phoenix was broken-- she was marketed that way by everyone from Niitsuma to Seth Killian as grossly overpowered. She was later nerfed because people abused her too much rather than learning the metagame. They also admitted that they didn’t fix the DHC glitch because they were already working on Ultimate Marvel 3. I would assume fixing the glitch would be redundant when you are already making a newer version of the same game without said glitch.

Also, no game under the sun to this day has been glitch free; you know you shouldn’t have used that as a point of argument. I’m gonna skip the “know your history” quip you made and chalk it up to you thinking everyone here is an 09er or something.

Your definitions of “technology” is also overused and misplaced. There is a lot of “technology” that will never be removed simply because it works within how the developers intended the character(s) to work. Morrigan spamming, Zero/Magneto/Dr. Strange Loops come to mind (ironically ROM loop was a broken mechanic from MvC2 that they decided to keep). If you said “tactics” like just previously said, I would have agreed with you-- those are invented from learning hitbox & frame data, something that devs seemingly have a greater handle over than before. Players really shouldn’t expect hardcore nerfs in this game for the very reason, unless of course an infinite is discovered or something game changing like the DHC Glitch. They removed a certain Mad Beast loop from Jill, for example. I bet my top dollar that the Storm glitch you mentioned isn’t something grand enough to warrant a removal. If you want to continue that discussion in PMs, that’s fine with me.

If you want to hold onto technology, that’s perfectly fine as well. However, it severely hinders the growth of the communities in said games, leading to players like Dieminion, players who constantly win with no real challenge in their area, due to the competition not leveling up as they could. (That’s probably more so a problem with other players being lazy or just not exposed to high level play constantly as well) He’s already made mention a few times that he hates the fact that his only real challenge is Sanford Kelly and that he’s working on helping others level up.

Finally, I’d want to win a major tournament by playing solid and having shared information with other great players, rather than withholding technology and waiting to bust it out then. You never know who could take the information you know and build upon it. That’s part of what made MvC2 so amazing, despite it being a broken to hell game (also the hype, lol).

Hello all. I was wondering, to anyone who plays Wesker on their Strider teams, if you could suggest any cheap to ultra-cheap tactics and/or setups abusing Vajra assist. A friend gave me one that may or may not be old news, but he said during an air combo w/ Wesk, instead of doing sjS to flying screen, to cancel to H teleport (immediately grounding), then call Vajra immediately upon landing, and then doing another H teleport into a quick jS. Sounds interesting for sure.

But yeah, anything like that. Nasty dirty side-switches or traps or resets or ways to threaten a new combo after finishing a combo (Wesker has a lot of these with tatsu). Help me make my opponents claim that Vajra-Wesker is broken!! For context, the team would be Wesker Hawkeye Strider, which the option to swap Hawk for Doom if Hawk doesn’t abuse Vajra nastily enough. Hawk’s my best char, so I hope Vajra-Hawk can incite some rage, but for this team I’m lookin for cheap over solid. Thanks!

Oh, unrelated to the above, but… just from reading some posts to make sure I wasn’t asking a question that’s been answered (and if I have, please feel free to just point rather than re-type), it’s not that innovation is impossible, it’s that being publicly and permanently credited for it is next to impossible. You could be a well known name, and use a tactic to destroy a string of other well known names on the stream of a major with 10,000 viewers, and you’d still need a lot of luck for people to think of it as “the <your name>.” Once a tactic is out there at all, no one outside niche threads like this would really ever know who invented it, or even care to find out, sadly. Hell, I actually coined the term “welcome” to refer to the post- kill and snap incoming character situation (and was shocked how it caught on). And not only does only .00002 % of SRK know that, but almost as few even know who I am, let alone this little fun fact about what’s become standard Marvel lexicon (so sweet lol). If recognition is your only concern, you just have to put your shit out there, and have the strength to just smile and pat yourself on the back when you see someone else win with it. But don’t deprive other players’ evolution for vanity that accomplishes nothing. Again, I mean if that is the ONLY concern… if it’s to surprise people at a tourn or something with new tech that makes MUCH more sense. /rant

PS. Any good tips on using Vajra for welcome mixups? lol

I want to use strider instead of dante for my zero/dante/sentinel team. Or I might go with zero/dante/strider which dante and strider can flip flop.

Sentinel assist just destroys some teams that lack a good neutral game.
Dante assist is so DAMN good with zero.
Strider assist with dante/zero is a reminder that you have to be careful in the air.

Do people agree with this? Which team makes you scared?

Hello Strider mains :).

I use vajra with Doom to do some ghetto left/right where I just hover ambiguously at super jump height and if they block the left/right vajra dash down with j.M,S to land left/right.

How are you guys dealing with taskmaster? one on one he seems to shut strider down pretty good not to mention one mistake and its game over. without taking assists into account what can strider do vs this fucker?

Yeah task master gives me a hard time with strider with no assist, Task generally does good against aggressive rush down characters like Viper, strider, V.joe etc. The shield skill is to good against them. Im getting good at that match up doing these things. look out for zoning bates. What good taskys like to do is zone you to get you to jump in once you do Shield skill, the best thing i like to do is empty jump to bait out the shield skill then go for a throw, be weary of attacking after you block the shield skill good TM players cancel it in to his cmmd grab or shield counter hyper really good players will delay slightly after you block all that to bait out your atk and get you with the shield counter hyper thats why i go for a throw do not do Vajra while TM is on the ground without covering it with formation A1( tiger) he could be baiting you to do it and is always looking to punish it, if you do the L ver he will get you with shield skill, M or H he’ll catch you with the up arrow hyper. All ways try to have a formation B active to punish any mistakes he does and to bait out an atk with gram M or H since formation B shot not summon will cancel it and you can mix him up with a wall cling. if you know its going to hit i like to use Ame-no-Murakumo to follow behind it. Try to bait him to jump and shoot arrows by spamming formation A1 then Vajra M to catch him with a air throw or H to get him with a hard knock down. let me know if you still need a little more strategy

Interesting coincidence. Not entirely Strider/Raccoon tech, but I just posted up a bunch of combos in the MODOK forum where Log trap + Vajra allows Dok to hit a jamming bomb/snap from any position on screen off of any starter. (except forward air throw)

I’ve only recently picked up Raccoon, and my Strider is still pretty new and unlearned, but their synergy with MODOK (my main for life) means I will be maining them permanently. So I hope to be putting up some tech between Strider and Raccoon as I get more lab time with them.

You asked for it and here you go. Watch this video from a JPN turny and watch this player called Jeo Morrgan/Wesker/Strider. Check out the part a 1:34 he has a gross set up on an in coming character with Wesker and Strider which is like a teleport double over head, I literally said yuk when i saw it. Checkout the rest of Emillll’s channel for more videos of him in this turny. note the video says his name is yuki, they just didnt have time to change his name to jeo for this match so just know his team is morrgan/wesker/strider.

Thanks! Ill check it out upon waking. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go pass out.

Speaking of unshared tech because of misplaced pride.
Is there any good video tutorial about strider anywhere ?
I do not get the impression that i am leveling up my game with him. I am getting used very slowly to his way of moving the screen, what normals to use and so on but nothing ground breaking.
All i can get are some combo video that do not really help me since everytime i enter the lab and fail to replicate them, i always wonder why and if a patch hasn’t goten in the way (stupid fear assumption but i just can’t chake it) . Amazing combo video but you still don’t get it after watching them a dozen times… or when you do, you just can’t redo those neat loops or techs, combo video are just no help.

BTW, noticed how everybody call the doom corner TAC the “marlin pie combo” he didn’t even invent it or tried to claimed it, he just used it several month after it was uploaded on youtube…

When I was doing some wall cling combos I noticed that sometimes after wall cling M I would get a J.H instead of wall cling H. I’ll admit that when this happens I am usually kinda mashing buttons so I have no idea how I am getting J.H. As far as I know after cancelling wall cling, Strider can’t do anything until he lands. Anybody know how to get J.H after a wall cling?
edit: Wall cling M seems to be randomly jump cancellable. I can’t figure out what causes it or a timing for it.

For anyone who can’t find a use for meter you can corner reset someone by calling dog, then cancel into legion super. The dog covers neutral techs and legion catches everything else so they can’t jump out. Push block doesn’t keep you out. you can time a dash at the end of legion that puts you next to them and go for high/low/throw and assist nonsense.

So have people found any use for oroborus other than xf3 insanity? Whenever I see it being used without an xfactor it always seems a little mediocre so I was wondering if that was just people not using it properly or is it actually not that good outside of xfactor?

Ouroboros is great outside of xf3. It can still be used for comebacks but you need to reset more to take full advantage of its damage.
Basically, if I have strider vs. 3 characters, I’ll use raw ourboros to kill the first character, xf into something meterless to kill the second character, xf3 ourboros to kill the third character.
