any good Strider play from NYCC?
Not sure if it’s been asked around in this thread, but for anybody who has played Strider, how do his normals feel in terms of priority and hit boxes in this game? They had really good priority in mvc2, but like shoultzula said they do look a bit shrimpy from footage I have seen. Just want to know if they might be as cheap as Zero’s in terms of hit box and priority.
Considering I’ve planned on playing Strider Hiryu I think I should’ve stuck around this thread more. Playing Strider at NYCC most of time I can say on his normals
-Short-decent range because he’s short I don’t think any of his normals can be used as AA
-Faster than Zero’s normals
-I couldn’t really tell how they were priority wise because every time I got someone with Strider they weren’t really attacking.
-Damage-wise his normals are scrawny, he needs some long combos me thinks to deal some good damage w/o the use of XFC or Ragnarok of course.
-Not allot of people played him at NYCC at least from what i saw because he was too “expermental” to play with as in, his low health, damage and lots of moves made him “too complicated” for the limited time alotted.
-The guy’s a butterfly but stings a like a…pissed off fly, and by that I mean very noticeable low health, low damage but high combo potential.
Me playing Strider at NYCC as well as others.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2p0fhFL0oyc 0:30 you can see that a basic magic and air series Strider combo did very little and 40% of the damage came from an Nemesis rocket assist lol
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcMzWQCz1CI&feature=related (Idk what happened here I lost all sense of Strider’s mobility here for some reason)
Yeah, day 1 Strider damage is measly. Gonna need some practice to increase his output. If UMVC3 really is more about mix ups than damage then he should turn out fine.
Thanks. I have to take my hat off to you, 90% of the strider videos i watched were garbage but you are one of the few that actually did well on his first hold.
I thought of some good Strider teams:
Strider/Strange/Doom or Strider/Shuma/Doom, Hidden Missiles is Doom’s assist on both teams. The reason why i have listed these teams is because these characters have assists that track or hit all screen.
In the interest of having the UMvC3 character threads be as awesome as possible, I am posting here to offer up my current Ultimate Dormammu Thread as a base skeleton to anyone who intends to manage a character thread, or something similar, in Ultimate. It is currently stripped of information, and will remain so until about a week before release. I am not attempting to toot my own horn, but rather offer to others what took me quite a bit of work to do, so that those who would rather not spend the time on such things do not have to.
I have received a lot of compliments to-date about the structure, and a few people have requested permission to use its structure for UMvC3, so I thought I would go around and make the offer to others who might not be aware that someone out there has already done the grunt work for them (haha). Because I am posting this in all the character forums, and this is time consuming on its own, I have not taken the time to check for how developed the thread I am posting on current is. Thus, I ask that no one be offended at my suggestion if your character forum is well constituted already - I mean no intrusion upon your methodologies!
Here is a link to the thread blueprint:
You can get an example of what it looks like when filled out here:
You are of course entirely welcome to change whatever you like if you want to incorporate this structure into your own thread. I have all of my posts saved as Word documents on my computer. If you would like these documents instead of having to copy/paste from the main threads, please feel free to PM me your email address, along with the character thread they will be used for, and I will gladly send them.
Highest Regards to All,

From the looks of things Strider will get alot more mileage as an assist character. His tracking dive kick looks too good not to use, so putting him at point would take away your ability for instant pressure anywhere on screen. He doesnt really need assists to be effective because he can set up his own cross ups. Who knows what he can pull off in lvl.3 x-factor and when all else fails: ouroborous. That’s why he’d be a better anchor than point character IMO. You want to build your team to maximize Strider’s versatility. I plan on rockin Zero/Dante-Virgil/Strider as my main. I think ill call them The Schwingers.
Just thought I’d leave this here to boost the hype
Watching Max’s gameplay demo of UMvC, I think orbs are still gonna be deadly, 'specially against incoming characters. Who can resist and endless onslaught of fullscreen energy rings, 'specially in X Factor. I think it’s gonna be well worth the 3 meters.
The ability to shutdown the game and get free mixups/ resets will definitely worth it, especially once Strider players figure out ways to equate an Ouroboros activation into a dead character even w/o X-factor. There’s no way a tool this godlike was going to cost one bar, especially with x-factor in the game.
I’ve talked to clock about strider here and there and strider still has weapon priority on the sword stuff so his priority has stayed in from mvc2.
one of the things i hate about orbs is that it looks like morrigans level 1 super lasts longer than striders level 3 orbs which is pretty crappy. I don’t think he will be all about orbs this game, probably played more like a tricky teleport character working off hits and pressure.
orbs seem to be good in a few spots. The first spot is creating a team difference where strider has a shot to kill the a character and create a 3v2. Another spot is definitely a comeback scenario where strider is down 2v3 in terms of team chemistry. Last slot for xf3 will be good too. Hopefully, strider has the ability to combo into orbs, startup does look really fast so things like standing abc, hit confirm, orbs, orbs hit, combo still, XF will be really good. Hopefully orbs doesn’t add too much to hit stun decay, that would really help out his team chemistry
striders role looks quite different this time around. It seems he can be a fairly effective battery or a character that will dump bar also, it looks like strider can be effective in ANY slot. Strider can start and gain full team chemistry. He can come in 2nd and be the “dump” bar character or you could stick him 3rd which is probably his worse position. When you start strider 3rd, you have 2 characters in front of him obviously. character 1 will definitely be able to use character 2 assist and strider assist but if character 1 dies, character 2 only has strider assist to work off of which really fucks with that character bad. I’m thinking 1\2 position will be most ideal.
best assists for strider? drones would of been awesome for strider if they worked like the did in vanilla where it has a gap. Really would of been able to do some tricky teleport cross ups. Its hard to say what striders most optimal team would be ATM. Most teleport characters in this game fucking love akuma though so I imagine there will be a god like strider\horizontal\akuma team. doom\strider\sent, clockw0rk from mvc2, would definitely be competitive. doom can build bar, create a safe DHC for strider, provide a good assist etc…
Strider as anchor will most likely work how Wesker as anchor worked in Vanilla. Wesker’s OTG assist is not going to lock people down or give you safe left/right mix ups, but it’ll have a few decent utilities if you do get in. The idea would be more so at that point to just have a character that is capable enough without assist lockdown second and then have Strider durp it out with meter as anchor.
Strider teleport divekick is still looking like it could be one of the best anti-airs in the game. The fact it auto tracks will help characters like Chris who used to struggle with Wesker’s gun in Vanilla.
Im wondering if Wesker/IronFist/Strider would work.
ok i’m thinking of some devastating combos with ragnarok. my mvc2 memory is a little foggy, but i believe strider was able to control the distance of formation 3 (bird bomb) with different strength buttons. if you do formation 3 (distance adjusted by some other means, perhaps a button hold) xx ragnarok, the bomb should be able to combo post ragnarok, considering ragnarok leaves the opponent in a spinning knockdown~hard knockdown state. after that, i’ll just assume for now that you can teleport vajira, teleport air L gram for another hard knockdown, fullscreen amere no whatever, or perhaps wall cling into dive kick for a ground bounce (and it looks like those are special cancellable as well).
if none of that works, maybe (formation 3 xx legion, etc) outside the corner would work instead.
Well, I can’t really say much because I haven’t played the game, but Strider looks like a point character to me. Or maybe in the 2nd slot after some meter has been built for his lvl3s. He also looks like he will be in the air a lot so I think Strider with Wesker assist will work better than the other way around. I don’t remember much about his assists but I don’t think any of them really stand out much. But again, this is all from watching videos and experience using Wekser.
I think so, Wesker is a great battery and Iron Fist has the godlike assist. When you have Iron Fist on point, he can’t do much against air opponents, so the Strider assist will bring them down.
I’ve been in gamefaqs for about a week and damn it’s horrible. There are so many Strider haters over there and none of the argue in context of the game but rather the status of his games.
Anyway. I like the sound of Strider/Doom again. It seems greatly balanced because both men can help each other out greatly.
Well, they seem the same to me, but like others say, they have low durability points in uMvC3. And to the other poster, Strider is supposed to have around 700-750K health, not 650K.
