Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

why is everyone sleeping on the racoon???

Strider Racoon Doom,
best team ever

That double overhead or just double jump mixup in general seems nasty indeed, looks like I’ll def get hit by a bunch at least the first few days lol. But im also gonna be rockin’ Strider so no fear.

I want to see some good Strider matches. The only one i saw to be seriously good was when Floe used him during SDCC and Max was pretty decent with him, the rest where bad and very disappointing. 98% of the strider matches i saw left some bad impressions, from coming in only with orbs, and just not dominating much when he should be.

I really want to see the synergy between Strider/Vergil, i’ve been hearing about it and it just makes me curious to see how well Vergil, Dante, Zero and Foom work with him.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say it probably has something to do with the fact that we all know nothing about him. I mean that could have something to do with it.

Best way to get hyped for a character? Find out everything about the character’s history. Origin stories, appearences, other games they’ve been in.

Thank you Maxmil, i think i’ll be using dem double overheads on day 1 also love that wall cling, dive kick then get a H. Gram off of it to wall bounce though it looks like he can’t follow up it opens up allot of ideas.

Max make only Strider vids please! only include the other guys in terms of strider pairs and match ups

But seriously, how do you guys think Strider/Dante/Vergil will play out? I heard Strider/Vergil are excellent together.

Double over head sounds like absolute nonsense. Love it. Hopefully Capcom will succeed in making a game where a pure mix up character can be good. If the game is still about retarded damage then Strider will suffer. He hits like a fly.

And Cisco where do you keep getting the idea that two meter dependent characters will be good together? Vergil/Strider sounds awful on paper.

I give a damn bout a characrers origin story, if they offer interesting gameplay then ill be hyped, and since I know nothing bout RR I find it hard to be hyped. But that wasn’t even my point, homeboy up there was talking bout us sleeping on character as if the games been out for a year or something n RR is this secretly Godlike character or something.

But lets drop this before we derail this thread even more, max’s vid is pretty tight, the doube overhead looks cool but could prolly get disrupted by pushblock once people start scouting it. With that said his mix-up still seems pretty intense, looking forward to seeing the resets and shit people come up with him.

I’m not too bothered about Strider’s health. I just wish his damage output was bigger.

Also Strider/Vergil/Dante??? TEAM SWORD FTW!

Yeah… Strider and Vergil on the same team might look cool, but that seems like you’ll be running out of meter constantly lol. Couple of meter hogs coming in 5 minutes til close, order a crapton of stuff…

Not to mention Vergil/Dante/Strider have glass jaws. There’s no room for error with that team. Don’t think their assists even gel particularly well. Style only gets you so far…

Yeah, it seems like a weird mashup in theory, but hey. Only time will tell. I don’t want to tread on Cisco’s dreams. Hell, who woulda thought Wolverine and Akuma would’ve meshed together so well, eh?

I’ve read about it around the net; Killerkai said they worked well together. From what i read, Vergil’s running dash assist is invincible or has some invincibility frames, which would make it good for strider’s mix ups and utilize the moves that allow him to get in. Strider’s assist is said to work well with Vergil too. As with meter, maybe it is on how you use them. I never saw Vergil to be dependent on meter because he has allot of options as it is, and his maximum vergil super is a reliable super in itself.

I heard that Strider can cancel into legion, then DHC into vergil’s sword dance super or devil trigger and allot of good things can connect for free.

It’s interesting that this is being discussed. If you check ClockwOrk’s twitter he talks about Strider/Dante/Vergil being good and all 3 men have great assists. As for meter, how is Strider a meter hog? The reason why capcom gave him 2 level 3’s instead of a faster Oroborrus time meter is so that he wouldn’t be dependent on the super. He isn’t like the MVC2 Strider where you needed to keep him second and DHC him in with orbs because if you watch some videos you can that Strider builds meter very fast.

What Strider needs is either a health or damage buff. In reality, Zero is still a better rushdown character than Strider, Zero just gives higher damage off a simple combo and he has better HP (not a large difference though). IMO, Strider needs the health increase (not too much of an increase) because he is a complicated character to use, and lastly gives the same damage as Morrigan.

A character who’s most important move is a level 3 is definitely a meter hog. We know extremely little about Vergil’s assist, and Dante’s Jam Session does what exactly for Strider?

Also, how you’re able to judge how Zero is a definitively better rushdown character at this stage is beyond me. Having better damage and HP does not make Thor better than Phoenix.

^ Both Floe and Clock are planning on Vergil/Strider

How can any body question Dante’s Jam session, it is one of those universal assists that work with everybody Lets see some possibilities with that full vertical pillar. It can lock the opponent down, and it can disrupt air games, it can be used in assisting cross ups and the new double jump over head tech. I think it’s strange for you to have questioned the Jam session, since it’s been known to be one of the best assists in the game.

Lastly, Strider isn’t as reliant on orbs as you think. Stop that, you’re making Strider sound like shitty one dimensional character who has the same type of “one and only” game strat since MVC2. Oro is not his most important move anymore, it is his strongest move, but everything he has is reliable, this isn’t MVC2 Strider anymore, as i said. His main gameplay doesn’t need to revolve around gaining meter so he can get Ouro on, and you thinking that is a primary start shows your ignorance and that you have not left the MVC2 concept.

Zero has better rush downs because he can cancel into higher damage with just one meter, while strider can not. Thor does not deal better damage than Phoenix, nor is he fast as Phoenix… you should give more thought when you make examples.

Well every still remains to be seen. We’re not yet at experiment level to begin with, so it’s kinda useless to start flame arguing on concepts.

It’s one of the most overrated assist in the game. Scales damage very badly, easy to punish Dante, nobody is going to stay still and let you cross up with it, like I said before if it’s one of the best assists in the game everyone would have been using Dante as an anchor. But people know how not effective the Jam session is.

I think Maximilian was 100% correct when he said that both Vergil and Strider are meant to be the new generation of UMvC3 characters that do less damage in their combos but have a ton of setup potential. I think that is going to be the biggest issue with a team having both of them, if you get behind you will have to rely on not so high damage, low health characters to pull a comeback and that’s an uphill task.

So then Akuma’s Tatsu and Haggars lariat are over rated assist, because by your logic “nobody is going to stay still”. This here tells me a bit on how much you know on using assists. Dante’s assist is best when people are in the air, and when the next character comes out. Here’s a small logical way to use dante’s assist (it has worked for Zero), when the opponent is about to block you, call dante just incase he push blocks you away, this will allow you to cross him up and teleport on him. When you manage to kill the opponents character, go to where the opponent pops up and call dante so the opponent remains on the defensive.
