Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

Read my sig to see the new people team I’m using. X-23 is staying with Doom and Dante. You have to delegate somebody as the anchor and I usually think anchors work as long as they are either a really strong assist, really strong on point as anchor or both. Being a good assist alone qualifies him as anchor spot on the new team and he definitely won’t be a sitting duck for offense being able to teleport past advance guards. Especially with XF and Ouro.

Oh okay, but my point still stands. Don’t you think it’s better to have XF 2 + assists than that extra bit of damage and speed you get with level 3?

It could be but I don’t really want Strange as anchor because I want Vajira assist for both Vergil and Strange. XF2 Strange + Strider assist could be pretty good too.

Unless Strider’s assist doesn’t prove to be as good as hyped (it supposedly fucking tracks you and will probably set up combos pretty nice) I’m definitely going to be running it. Vergil and Strider seem to be able to already set up their own mix ups nicely and vajira assist should hopefully help lock down against advance guards as well. Not to mention create a big hit box for their left/right teleport mix ups. If you get a vajira assist out should be free teleport get in or combo for Vergil and Strange.

Is it general consensus for future Strider players to put him 2nd or 3rd on your team? I’m guessing due to his below average health? Or to build meter for Ouroburos?

I hope he can still wreck s*** up on point. I don’t think Strider is going to be put into a Phoenix situation for team building.

Too early to say, but he seems very versatile. Looks like he can be a self sufficient meter builder, a good assist, a good anchor, the full package. It’s looking like it could end up being a matter of preference. Strider might be gasp a well designed character!

I see it the same as having Akuma or Doom as anchor. There’s plenty of Akuma anchor based teams specifically that do really well at tournaments. I don’t have that much love for Strider despite him being a ninja where I’m going to go out of my way to put him on point. People usually put the characters they love or identify with on point just out of sheer love for the character any way. In Marvel you gotta make a team so I put the team first and character love second. Like Zero…although I’m sure he’s going to still be really good as point/meter builder his potential with meter I’m sure will be better and unlike Zero he actually seems to have a major assist. Definitely making him potentially strong for anchor spot and easily 2nd.

Unlike X-23, Strider doesn’t seem like he’ll be a sitting duck for mix ups without assists any way. His mix ups and pressure will most likely still be effective without assists especially if he has XF stocked. Plus he’ll most likely be a good assist in the first place.

Meter is for pussies!

Foolishness, Drizzle. Foolishness. Meter controls everything, and without meter you cannot protect anyone… let alone yourself.

Wait-

Your saying people on the cold mean streets of Detroit should start using Meter to protect themselves? Instead of shooting each other for ‘self defence’ they should unleash LVL3 Hypers!? I LIKE YOUR THINKING, Jocelot!

I think i have a content team to try out first.

Strider/Vergil/Task… Taskmaster has some new alts that i seriously dig and it seems like a good team. I think Seth confirmed that Vergil’s sword orb projectile will be an assist and i predict his rising upper cut (the one that double hits or the one with the sword) will be an anti-air, i hope it’s the double hit one because i looks as if it comes out fast. Task can be on his horizontal shot assist for added rushdown cover.

What are your team ideas, btw?

Strider/Deadpool/Amaterasu

Deadpool with his horizontal shooting assist and Amaterasu with his shooting star assist. More than enough to cover Strider.
I haven’t even played normal MvC3 so I don’t really know. From watching streams and stuff I think this team would work. Also, EVERYTHING seems to DHC into Amaterasu’s thunder/fire super.

Deadpool has a horizontal shooting assist?

I thought he did

Never played MvC3, so i’m not sure. I swear I’ve seen people use it on streams.

Sorry, been a bit MIA, whats the general opinion on his assists? Does he have one that has potential? And if so which one? The dive kick? Cause that seems a bit hard to get a combo off.

GUYS

HIRYU’S JPN VOICE ACTOR SOUNDS A LOT LIKE HIS MVC-MVC2 INCARNATION

WE IN THERE

I would say his teleport kick/dive kick assist is looking really good. Supposedly it tracks you no matter what you do. Even if you super jump. Long as it activates fast enough it should be solid for locking down people mashing on advance guards so you can get in. I’m hoping you’re able to confirm off of it reasonably and guarantee damage off it.

Thanks, good to know, hopefully we figure out a way to hit-confirm off it in the future.

Sitting listening to Strider’s theme when I got a tingly feeling. It just hit me again. He’s back. He’s actually back. UUUUUUUUURRRRGGHH, will this game just come out already?

Yeah. The theme made me rethink of Strider/Sent/Doom instead of Strider/Vergil/???. When you think about it, Strider/Sent/Doom may actually be more well rounded in this game than the previous.

^ after this post, my imagination of MVC3 Strider/Sent/Doom is increasing positively. Doom can be in his hidden missiles assist, and Drones are faster now. It just seems like this team his hard to run away from.
hmmm…

I was thinking about fiddling with this team myself. It is a very synergistic team! You could switch around Doom’s assists and use beam for an instant way in + a combo extender for Strider while using drones for lockdown and mixups. The positioning of this team is also versatile, since you could put Doom on point to build meter for Strider, or you could put him in the second slot to support Strider and benefit from drones at the same time.
