The 50% against Haggar in the debut video is a reset. Watch the combo counter, it resets multiple times. I think Ourbouros is great, I just don’t think its worth 3 bars at this point over Ragnarok. I used the Ourbouros several times today and was constantly push blocked out due to the flurry of rings each acting as a projectile and pushing me back with each advance guard. By your second teleport in you’ve already wasted 2/3 of the meter. It might be much better than what I see now though, these are just day 1 perceptions.
I can’t help but think man, he’s looking insanely good. The thing is, Im planning on maining him too lol, but I actually don’t want him to be as strong as people make him sound this easily as everyone will just pick him and abuse dat. I haven’t played much MVC2 so I can’t put any input in on what i’ve seen. His 90% Ranged slash looks insane though lmao, and it looked very hard to see coming + the other stuff thats going for him. Im glad hes in tho, he’s looking good.
I think when UMvC3 drops, strider players are gonna find ways to open people up to kill with ouroboros. at this point, his lockdown from MvC2 is almost negated due to the new pushblock mechanics in this game. that will probably change up his gameplay into a more reset-based one, like wesker’s. getting a reset in the corner into ouroboros = death. with the MvC3 engine, I’m hoping his combos are longer and flashier this time around to make up for satellite being a lvl 3 now.
LOL did you guys read Clockw0rk’s twitter? “Ryoma Nitsuma: “You are very famous Strider player. Nice to meet you.” Proceeded to take a picture with his cell phone. #goosebumps #UMVC3”
I’m liking the no charge inputs, and just the return of massive moves in general…
I don’t think orbs are worth 3 bars because I recall someone being combo’d while having orbs up.
It last longer but it can’t protect you, can’t chip, you get pushblocked, it just does solid combo damage…
Can’t wait to play him though
The only thing I don’t understand about Ouroboros is the lack of chip damage. And I only say this because of Advancing Guard and the fact that it’s a level 3 hyper. Putting those 3 facts together just makes no sense to me. But whatever, Strider is sounding more and more powerful so I can’t gripe.
high learning curve? i highly doubt it this isnt marvel 2
strider looks dope but tbh I most likely won’t be using him much even though I do use Doom alot. This isn’t MvC2 so I don’t think they are “best buds” in this game. I’m sure they will work well together but honestly doom works well with many characters in this game. like many I was disagreeing at first on the fact orbs are level 3 till I saw them in action, the chip is just insane if you x-factor. I saw a match where someone had FULL health and the chip damage totally killed off the character when he was blocking in the corner. Lvl 1 would be too OP, Seth said they actually spoke about it being the only level 2 in the game but came to the conclusion it would still be too powerful. I personally am very interested in Firebrand. I loved Ghost n Goblins as a kid. Gonna take a wack at Ghostrider too. Not sure about Hawkeye.
Can’t wait for the new characters… Nemesis omg I wanna see that character and people at the convention were sayin one of the new characters is gonna have a captain commando assist. Not sure where they were getting that from but if that’s true my bet is it will be Nova or Iron Fist. So in closing, Strider is a great addition but probably won’t be for me.
Could someone should try this combo:
s.:l:, s., s.:h:, s.:s: sj.:h: into :l: Excalibur j., j.:h:, j.:s:, s.:h:xx :l:gram into Robot animal assault super
Idk if it works, but it looks like you can
I was drunk as shit when I came home at 3:30am. I decided to browse before I went to sleep, saw a Hawkeye, Firebrand and Ghost Rider thread and I typed as quickly as my drunk fingers would allow to snatch up the Strider thread. I’m surprised the Strider thread wasn’t grabbed while I was gone for a few days. Bad things usually happen to me when I leave for two seconds…
Glad you’re a good sport about it. I doubt Strider’s health is an issue. He was always a glass cannon, and in a series like this where damage is huge to the point that most characters can kill anyone in one or two combos, having a little more health isn’t going to make that much of a difference. I wouldn’t worry about it. He’s making good first impressions on players by the sounds of things.
If you really think Strider needs more health with the tools he has you are completely spoiled and learned nothing from MvC2.
With what he has and what is to be discovered from him more health could land him in the same situation we faced with Wesker and Sentinel in vanilla.
He has low health, which means you make the most out of him on point. Very simple concept. Strider isnt the only piece of glass in the cast. A lot of the girls have low health.
i get a good chuckle to anyone who thought striders stunlock would fly in mvc3. i dont even understand at this point why it is a “surprise” to some people why his stunlock wouldnt work. ive stated this in many threads and yet people still pretended striders stunlock would work , sorta reminiscent to the people who pretended lups hints even after being told arent related to “X” character and yet still continued to assume “hey this quote is for the character i want in the game.”
i cant wait to hear people bi*** and moan when strider is an “easy” character to use .
At 1:12, Strider gets hit with the Gravity Squeeze after he activated Ouroboros, so it probably has delay after the super startup animation.
Any word on if Strider’s health is below 800k? Seems that way from the vids.
if i had to take a guess based on what we’ve seen thus far , id put him at 700-750k ~
Overall I’m seeing people really thinking that opening someone up with Ourbouros is gonna be worth the 3 lvls. Its not like Ourbouros is a new super, people have been trying to defend it for over 12 years, ever since MVC1. Heck for most kids out there who never even played MVC1, he was much better in that than he was in MVC2 due to longer Ourbouros and higher damage. People can still RUN from it just like they did in all other versions of this game. Its not like if they run, you drop doom or Lou (MVC1 assist way before Doom) and start it again. For everyone who is excited to play him , I think the older Marvel heads who ran him in MVC1 will find him much more appealing as he’s closer to that incarnation than the MVC2 version.
In terms of overall damage, he seemed really weak, almost Akuma like. My buddy was playing keep away with Ghost rider and 4 hits took almost 40 % life. Not a 4 hit combo, just 4 hits of Ghost Rider’s jumping S while he was keeping me away took almost 40 %.So yes he’s very weak, but I feel damage is much higher in this game. I saw Dante taking a pounding as well in the health department, but I also noticed my Dante combos doing a lot more damage as well. So its either damage was increased over all or certain characters received health nerfs. BTW, Wesker has pretty weak health now, 2 basic day 1 combos can probably kill him now.
IDK what to think yet, but I expect strider has Zero syndrome where he appears to do weak damage until we start otg’ing into a hard knockdown (gram) then using legion to end combos.
In the gameplay trailer if you have his satellite out you can ABC, Gram, Satellite, Wall cling, do some wall cling hits, then dive kick off the wall causing a ground bounce giving you time for another gram into legion. On tron the damage it did was ok probably like half and it only built half a meter… Hmm maybe relaunches are where it’s at, don’t worry though, we’ll figure something out.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bx0mENSOTw (52 seconds)
And in response to confucious about 4 hits doing 40%, that’s not as bad as it sounds since they weren’t combo’d they were all unscaled damage and knowing ghost riders a slower strong character type, each hit probably did 80-100k.
I also forgot to comment on his air excalibur…
In air (QCF+ A)-> Shoots strider straight down at a slight angle, not sure if it hits over head. Can combo into a ground chain on hit I believe.
In air (QCF+ B)-> This version is really great. Saw Floe using it a lot yesterday to get across screen. Works like a Pseudo airdash as he can attack shortly after recovery. He doesn’t recover fast enough for say a mixup, but can get you all the way across the screen if need be.
In air (QCF+ C)-> This version is like his Jab version from MVC2. It goes straight up and you can recover and attack on the way down. A lot like Zero’s teleport now where he flies up, but Strider flies up really high.
Getting this move into a combo will be key to his relaunch mid screen combos. Yesterday we were doing…
A,B,D.C,S->B,B,C, Excalibur A version, this shoots him down and hits the floor before the opponent ->S.B, S-> Follow up air combo.
If I remember anything else I’ll post it. One last thing about Ourbouros I remember, Zero hit me out of start up of it, and they didn’t even come out, yet I used the 3 lvls. WTF, at least give it an invincible start up.
Also shout outs to the San Diego crew. They were up there with a lot of heads plus Clock, Shady K, Nerd Josh…everyone was sharing tech and just trying to discover stuff together. It was an awesome session as each crew got their own station eventually an hour before the show closed down, basically turned into an hour long training room.
I’m likin Orbs as they are, but if it’s a level 3 then it should build meter. Ideally the move would be over powered if Strider is allowed to immediately build enough meter to constantly keep the move goin as soon as orbs finish. If (at most) he can only build a bar AND orbs disappear as an assist character, then yeah, building meter should be alright. His opponents wouldn’t be constantly under orbs pressure. Lockdown averted. Otherwise, give the move invincible startup and lets the actual orbs chip.
I love how you guys finally got your Strider place to be, enjoy!
