Clocks, how do they w0rk? Strider Hiryu Discussion thread

First post updated. Please make note of anything I’ve missed and keep contributing!

When Strider says “RAGNAROK!” in that unnecessarily manly voice (for him) I laugh. Then I cry for whoever got hit by it cause it literally rapes face.

I fucking love the way he says Ragnarok. SO GAT DAYUM EPIC. I shat myself laughing when it slows down on the final blow. Nothing says ‘you’re fucked’ like three ninjas hurtling at your neck with plasma swords.

i don’t think its as much of a black and white issue as some ppl are making it seem. increase strider’s health by 50 points will not necessarily make him the best character in the game and/or unbalanced.

i also don’t necessarily think that ppl are saying that he should keep everything he has going for him now, plus buff orbs (but make them level 1), buff his health and give him a pimp cup and a cane to go along with it.

thats not what any of us are saying.

and strider always had a “manly” voice. he barely says anything but whenever he did it was never high pitched.
the only thing that was high pitched were his yells when swinging his sword around.

lastly, if any of you are real strider players that have been playing him since day one mvc1, how could you not relate to any of us that thought and would rather have a more “true to mvc1/mvc2” form of strider…the strider that we played for like 12 years? why is that so toxic to you guys? why shoot down the notion any time its brought up?

yeah this game has changed the way some characters that have been around since the start operate. spiderman, captain america, etc. immediately come to mind, but if someone originally complained about say…making web swing a rdp motion or cap’s cartwheel not having invincibility or cap not having a double jump in vanilla, as a person that played both in mvc1, along with others such as strider, morrigan, etc. i could understand.

and from memory, ppl* DID* say something about that without ppl in those respective threads coming at their necks.

however rather than talking about how it will relate to gameplay, ppl twist words around and talk about how even the suggestion of more health and nerfed orbs is bitching and/or asking for your shoes to be tied for you.

smh. no unity in the strider thread, huh. we’re (strider players) few and far between and all we’re doing is bickering.

anyway, i don’t have anything else to say on this subject until we see more at evo and/or different builds.

If I want to play MVC1 Strider or MVC2 Strider, I will play MVC1 and MVC2. Those games will still be there.

The reason people are mocking requests for more health, chip on orbs, level one etc, is because they’re being made by people who haven’t even touched the game and have no clue over the character’s potential. The people who have actually played MVC3 Strider say that he looks good. Not just good, ‘S tier’ good. So all these knee jerk requests for more health, level one orbs etc are completely baseless. Before we start asking for buffs/nerfs we need to actually KNOW something about the character’s deficiencies and capabilities, and so far none of us except the handful of guys at SDCC actually have any experience.

It’s also worth remembering the guys who do know most about these new characters are the designers themselves. Like Seth said ‘he has low health for a reason’. So why don’t we wait and see what that reason is? If it turns out he’s lower on the tiers after a couple months,* then we* can start requesting buffs. But at this point, all people are doing is asking for buffs for a character who is reportedly S tier.

for me personally it wasn’t that i didn’t think he is good in his current state…i just wanted a more true to the other two mvc games strider. i realize that this is mvc3 and that tron, storm, hulk, spiderman, captain america, morrigan, chun li, etc. are all different and it obviously makes sense that strider is different too. i was just hoping that he’d be a lil more similar. he’s not, so like i said earlier i’ll deal with it. there is no character (you could reach and say ryu/mags/sent…maybe joe. i didn’t play tvc so i dunno) that plays similar to how they played in previous vs games.

it is the first build that we’re even seeing and its an early build. anything could change. but since we know that seth said that orbs may change (and that he personally wanted it to be a level 2) thats the main reason why i even bring up nerfing/changing how orbs works. and if they do that then give him a slight health increase.

but again, its a very early build and we all need to at least see what evo will show us.

Because quite frankly, MvC3 Strider is how I always wanted to play Strider. Someone who doesn’t need to rely on the orbs.

that’s cool. to each his/her own.

Didn’t everyone say Wolverine was garbage tier right out the gate on vanilla MvC3? One of the “problems” for Wolverine then was his less than reputable health ratio as well. JWong then shows out on everyone a few times, then declares Wolverine God Tier. You hobos hating on Strider’s health should take note to that. I’m sure there’s gonna be so much broken Strider technology coming out that people may wish he has even lower health to make up for it. Can already even see a few robot to assist mixups and touch of death potential in those videos. I won’t say he’s God Tier. He is definitely already mid-high without even knowing everything however, just from potential.

Still up to today, the only glaring problem I really see is Ouroboros being level 3. Should be level 2! Seth was right on the money.

Also debs, I see where you’re coming from-- this Strider is definitely reminiscent to MvC1 Strider, however. His speed, wall-cling, and damage. Also the fact that Ouroboros last so long.

Wolverine has 950000 health. I never understood why anyone would think he has low health when that’s about the average health. More importantly he also has a small hitbox and yet more health than Zero or Ammy who both have small hitboxes. Strider looks like he has less health and no small hitbox, so he’s obviously a glass cannon. As he always had been.

I dunno myself. It was definitely a concern for people when I saw matches going down and discussions made. Of course, everything and everyone was being compared to Sentinel at the time, and just not fleshed out and explored. Also Strider hasn’t always been a glass cannon, just the MvC2 iteration. MvC1 Strider was basically this updated version with tons of health, level 1 orbs and charge motion satellites.

I think we just gotta deal with what we got with strider besides hes in the game which is great enough…and besides hes a fucking ninja with robotic animals that kill his opponents and drops bombs on them so lets wait to see if we should complain or not mkay?

I giggle at the low health and level 3 complaints. I remember people whining about the same thing during Phoenix’s reveal… All the lol about how weak she’d be, how she’d be trash tier, and how her level 5 transformation would be too costly to be viable, etc etc… And she’s now considered one of the biggest pains in everyone’s asses in vanilla. Low health generally means the character can hit like a friggin’ truck… And from what I’ve seen so far, Strider looks like a BEAST when properly utilized.

Incoming video of how to beat strider where he has a troll face and they call the dogs salty dogs and there’s some over simplified way of beating him.

“When strider turns on the orbs, DO NOT fuck with him, just run away.”

“You need to snap strider in and kill him before he gets 3 meters. Otherwise he will turn into dark strider for 5 seconds and you will die!”

I think his lvl 3s are perfectly fine but as I’ve said before he might be like phoenix where he needs a team built around him.

How much health does strider have roughly

700k-750k

Damn he looks pretty good so that might warrant that much health who knows what he’s capable of what we get some training mode time with him

Thats what Im thinking but it still seems likes hes gonna die in one combo
