Sonic & Knuckles was an expansion for Sonic 3 so yeah Jason is right. Also I think the Sonic Team (creators of the game) wants to take the game back to it’s roots. This include solo Sonic it seems. This is Episode 1 tho so maybe in the later episodes there will be options to use other characters.
I see what you mean about the homing attack slowing the game down abit but I am happy it is included. No more jumps into stuff you don’t want too.
It’s not an expansion – expansions require the original to work (well on second thought I guess that’s an antiquated definition in today’s gaming world). It was marketed as a new Sonic with a cool combine feature. Even if you combine them it’s basically playing Sonic 3 and then playing Sonic & Knuckles, except now you can collect all the emeralds in both and you can play as Sonic, Tails or Knuckles in either game.
But anyway, it’s not like game companies really pay attention to their numbering schemes in long-running franchises
GGs at the arcade. I really enjoyed learning a little UMK3, so thanks Nick
As Jesse, Zach and I were recording a podcast last night, Zach brought up the topic of helping us all to become better players. One thing was to have a small, free tournament where the winner each week takes home a championship belt. You can also have No.1 Contenders who can challenge the champion for the belt in, say, a first to 5 or 10.
The other idea was to get The Gauntlet idea off the ground and put up the videos on YouTube. Whoever would like to play can, and we can have different games running at the same time or each week. After each 2/3 match, before the next player comes up, we can have the players talk about how their match went for a little bit, and get the opinions of others who were watching. The goal would be to get more critique going.
I can definitely start doing The Gauntlet as soon as next week. We’ll start with SSFIV, so anyone interested please let me know : )
Anyone else have any ideas on how we can up the quality of play in our scene?
Sonic and Knuckles is an entire game on it’s own. You just have the ability to unlock other stages using the previous games with the cartridge. But I’m not going to complain about the new game we are lucky to have it at all.
I do like the airborne attack. It will do nothing but speed the game up. I remember going along and bouncing on a spring only to have to stop mid air and kill my momentum because I knew there was something in the air I was going to hit before I landed in a certain spot.
Good shit 2 everyone I played @ AL last night. Good stuff 2 Kam, Quan, Diego, Darius, & Nick in UMK3 (yes, that old but new crack, lol), & good stuff 2 Quan, Brandon, Slayer, Kam, & Quentin in Tekken 6.
In terms of the Gauntlet type of deal w/ games & having championship belts & what-not, that would be pretty sweet. It is almost like what most professional or “professional” sports do 4 the most part, like Boxing, MMA, Wrestling, & it gets ppl pumped about who’s placed where & gets hype 4 shit. Not a bad idea if u ask me.
That’s all 4 now. Take it easy & have a good one. Peace. :china:
If one REALLY wants improve you have to play different people. Meaning leave the state, or wait for SB. The whole critique my play thing is fine but you can’t reach that other level by playing the same people.
Actually they made him the new mascot. Yo Kris you deserve the jokes. Makes no since that you get so pissed from losing. I mean come on nigga I lose more than you and I don’t turn back to a 2 year old. Concentrate on playing and not getting side tracked by getting pissed.
Quan’s right, I mean it helps to play certain match ups and critique people, but at the same time hindsight is 20-20 and many of us have become to each other’s styles. The only way to break out of your routine is to play people consistently that make you second guess yourself and give you an idea about what you are doing wrong. Personally, I would still like to try the gauntlet idea to gauge myself on match up experience. There are plenty of things that people lack in terms of match up knowledge (and sometimes execution) that would allow them to win more consistently than they do, and also allow other players to lose bad habits (i.e. anytime Bison blows EX-PC, a large portion of the cast can punish with reversal ultra, I’ve rarely been hit by this, however).
damn not the salt though. i mean that shit is pretty old. when i first moved to cincy i was like “is this nigga serious” and its 3 years later and cats is still trippin with them tantrums. on some real talk i should be pissed because i get my ass whooped by everyone (including you kris). man real talk you gotta get out that mindset man thats whats keeping you from being a better player. and when it comes down to it, its just a game hommie. cant be raging all the time, thats not a good look.
and i feel quan on what he’s saying but, you gotta realize man. niggas is broke these days and most of us do rely on someone else for transportation, but i digress, you just have to do the best with what you have, so right now all you have are “the nati kids”
Also i think the scene has really come up, i know im more of a spectator now than an actual player but hey i can understand wanting to get better. but i think its time that we start helping each other in the scene get better. its time to truly become a force.
hey i know yall cats remember this shit. especially since its in reference to mega man.

Yup. Unless you’re Chinatown Fair or the West Coast. Midwest has always been far behind the coasts in every game except GG, so the best way to get better is to travel to majors and play people in person. Yes you can watch videos and play some people online, but sitting down with great players in person is 10000% better at helping you understand whatever you’re trying to play
ban ubers is fine with me too. Yet there are alot of ways around garthchomp. like using chris gaines new album. Really tho anything not weak to dragon can kill him aka blastoise with counter simple shit like that. Hes not really ban worthy unless you include legendaries since he can ohko palkia with outrage/ safeguard haha
Sonic 3/sonic & Knuckles was definitely intended to be one game. Proof of this lies in the stage select where both Flying Battery and Mushroom Hill (named Mushroom Valley then) are listed among the selectable stages. More proof is found in the Sound Test, where nearly every piece of S&K music remains.
Much later (in early '08), a pair of prototypes of a single-cart version of the two games together (like a Limited Edition release) were released to the public for emulation as part of a massive proto release.
Anyone know of a place other than arcade legends (because they are not reopened yet) that has an ultimate mortal kombat 3 arcade machine? Cincinnati/Dayton/Kentucky Area
I dunno luke, not many pokemon can handle his stat/attack pool. Only Pokemon who can really match his speed is frosslass. Even then, she has a problem going before him. Let alone most Pokemon anyway.
