People should play ST/HDR. Let’s revive this shit. I’m tired of playing the same 3 people. I’m willing to help anyone and everyone learn either game as much as I can. I’m not a top player by any means, but I think I can get people on the right track. Who’s with me?
I’ll revive my ST playing if more than you and Frank play it. Still not touching HDR, as it made me quit ST when it came out. I’ll be checking out which version is played, and by who. With all the single player American RPG’s that I’m playing, there has to be good reason for me to take something up even half seriously.
For the record, I hate how playing with Fei Long = might as well not be playing. I will try harder in ST when you pick up Guilty Gear. Also, I’m with Diego in that I would like to know which version is being played. Or maybe we should all just agree to play old ST since we know it’s better.
Everybody should play Guilty Gear too.
Keith, remember we’re supposed to do some TvC Thursday if you’re there.
Also, people need to play Mark of the Wolves. I’ll never know why 3rd Strike had so much more of a following than this game. It’s a little more on the broken end of the spectrum, but I think the game’s almost as good. Then again, maybe the fact that I get to play it so seldom makes it seem better than it is.
Also, 2k2 UM.
Jesse, will it ever be possible to extend Thursdays an hour or so for summer or something? I’ll be late this week, so it made me think about that. I don’t even know if it’s a good idea even if you could do it, but I just thought I’d ask.
Excellent. You sticking with Dee Jay? You know I know Dee Jay pretty well, even though I don’t play him exclusively anymore.
Excellent. Your Ryu needs a lot of work. Gotta shake off those SF4 habits. But I think you could be decent for sure. As for Lindsey, is she playing Balrog?
Personally, I don’t really care which version. I only suggested HDR because it’s the tournament standard; I agree that ST is better. Also, I don’t play Guilty Gear because I don’t like Guilty Gear. If you don’t like ST/HDR, don’t play them. Also, yeah, Fei Long sucks. He just doesn’t fit in to the game. It’s too zoning intensive, and he can’t really handle it. That isn’t to say there aren’t some beastly Fei Long players out there. Cigarbob’s Fei is no joke, nor is Noguchi’s (Japanese player). Noguchi also plays Claw rarely though. Look up some Noguchi videos.
Once AL is officially open in July, I will be open until 1am every Thursday! Midnight in June seeing as I have to get up early every day and get things done for the arcade.
Dude you can’t be serious … he’s crappy in HDR and gdlk in ST! s. lk xx low tiger all day. I hate playing him in HDR, Sirlin went overboard on his tiger recovery IMO.
Keep on ST though guys, most people by now agree that it’s better than HDR despite a few good things HDR did do. Having a real ST around is definitely a treasure these days.
Jordyn, get Frank out there and spread the love.
Jesse, dunno if you are interested, but as a curiosity I picked up a pair of Jason Wilson’s JAMMA --> PSX adapters – basically you can keep your CPS2 controls plugged in but it also allows a PSX stick to be plugged into a CPS2 game at the same time, and it’s plug-and-play, no wiring needed. Pretty slick, nice to have honestly.
Also I forget if I mentioned it but those sanwas in the showcase are mounted really high – maybe it’s too late to do anything and Frank said he was adapting after awhile, but if no one’s mentioned it and it was possible to mount them slightly lower, I’d recommend
Looking forward to your reopening. It would be sweet if Harmon and I could drop by on our way to see Frank for the SBO ST quals in late July.
P.S. Are any of you guys able to make it to Summer Slam June 26? If so drop me a line and let me know if you can please bring any equipment. The deadline is approaching for the cheapest venue fee + guaranteed free food as well. Thanks guys
I will definitely check those adapters out. Sounds like something I’d want for sure.
As for the sticks, that was the only place they could be mounted on that panel. I actually like them up there better myself but I know most people aren’t used to it. It has been mentioned but no one has complained. I always felt the CvS2 cab placement was too far forward and I was always rubbing my forearms on the edge of the plastic. What can you do? It’s a lot of work to redo a panel. I wouldn’t recommend it unless it’s a necessity or a personal cab that has to be PERFECT in every way. I know you’ve had experience with this Chris.
I definitely can’t make it to SS because I have a concert at the new place, which is officially my first day open to the public. I’ll try to be at Season’s Beatings. It’s hard to tell with this new place opening.
Is ST only acceptable on cabinet? If I could I’d practice it through HDR, but I think Frank mentioned to me that port of ST is inferior. No PC for me, so that’s why I can’t use GGPO : (
I will join HDR army as well. No crickets from me, sir!
Old games are old. 3s, which is 11 years old at this point, is good enough for me. I look forward to playing about 5 people in TVC on Thursday, trying to get Roll/Casshan going.
Just wanted 2 say MLG in Columbus was the shiznite! I’ll tell ya guys about some awesome stories over the weekend, some great matches I had in Tekken, & share some knowledge I have learned from the tournament 2 every1 that is interested.
That’s all 4 now. Take it easy & have a good one. Peace. :china:
P.S. Jordyn, u know I’m down 4 playing some HDR & reviving that shit.
I appreciate it. I really do. The game is GOOD, you just have to understand it a bit before you can realize this. Similar to how some of you feel about SF4, I’m sure. I hate on it all the time, but people have told me its merits at higher levels, and it doesn’t sound bad then. However, I’m looking for people who are willing to get serious about the game. People willing to put in some time and work. If you don’t, you seriously cannot be good at ST/HDR. In a game where one mistake can = 80% damage, you have to practice. You have to know things. And the only way to learn is by playing. You can read all the technical info, all the frame data, learn all the combos in training mode, read about all the matchups you want, but there is no substitute for putting in the time and effort. This is true of any game. So I appreciate the positive feedback, I really do, but I’m looking for players willing to play it seriously. I’m not saying any of you are not willing to, I just want to clarify what I’m looking for. Trying to let you know what you’re getting yourself into.
Nathan – HDR is good enough practice – they’re basically the same game until you start to get pretty serious about it. Stuff that you learn in one will 95% work in the other until you get pretty deep into the engine.
Yeah SF2 is nice because you DON’T have to memorize all kinds of the retarded shit people think you have to in SFIV to be good (1-frame links, “I saw Daigo do this so I have to copy it”). It’s pretty easy to pick up and play even though it’s harder to beat an experienced player than in IV. All the factors that make you good at ST work in SFIV, except in SFIV you don’t have to learn fundamentals to give you the illusion that you’re doing well, haha.
I guess SF2 sounds intimidating but it’s IMO it’s as easy to pick up as it was in the WW days. You barely have any moves to worry about, it’s just all spacing, timing and some reflexes. All you need are 2 and 3-hit combos. Except now you have people to show you the way instead of GamePro. IMO being simpler and less gimmicky makes it much more fun, and also easier to learn. I also think good mind games are much easier to see in action than SF2 than SF4.
And you don’t have to sit on SRK and figure out what normals are good when. Just try shit in game and say “oh, that didn’t beat that, OK, won’t try that again.” or “wow, Ryu ducking strong snuffs hand slaps?? madness! remembering that!” Enjoying the game is all about experimentation instead of pre-programmed “I read I have to do this in this match” like how it sounds many people look at SFIV.
