Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

It’s match up specific, mainly against low jumpers and Rufus. Thanks though

Hey nice, I like that. Even smoother.

Well doing LK with doubletaps is a little risky. If you miss one or hit it too much, the legs come out early and all LKish.

Another great thing with doing c.LK~MK to start things up is that if you mis-time a c.LK (happens a lot online), you usually get c.MK, which is still good, if not confirmable for anything. But it’s better than sticking nothing out if you’re intending to rushdown and start mixups.

If anyone wants EX legs method I can make one too. Ciddypoo’s method is too smooth!

edit: Sorry if I sound boring but people are asleep lol.

Why do you just wanna do c.LK c.LK xx EX LEGS if you do c.LK, c.LP, c.MK xx EX LEGS you do more damage on hit and since there’s a c.LP there you can mix it up better on block since you’re +3 rather than +1 making the c.mk uninteruptable if they’re mashing c.LP to stop themselves from getting thrown.

I usualy do it like c.LK, c.LP, c.MK+LK~HK~MK~LK, ( LK+MK )
The reason I do it c.MK+LK is that if I time it too early it will go into c.LK since it’s a link, but if I nail the timing I will get c.MK since MK has higher priority as an input than LK.

Because almost all the Chun players I’ve seen (in high level videos) don’t wanna risk fucking it up completely. How much more damage are we talking anyway?

Personally, I wouldn’t do it that way because I am awful at doing full pianos with my fingers over the keys. On a broader scale, though, it’s like karapalming in 3S with Yun. If you can do it reliably, then do it, but most people will stick with regular corner juggles, especially in a tourney environment.

hey magneto in your 3rd chun vs rufus vid where you did that ultra after the kikouken, was that off a totally new charge? (aka you charged back from scratch after the fireball)

it just seemed really fast and i heard the arcade stick click insanely fast as well, so i wasn’t sure exactly what you did…also it looked pretty cool how you didn’t seem to move forward at all, just walked backwards into it (sounded like you tried to dash backwards)

just curious about the exact input that went on during that, i’d really appreciate it if you could like make the details as if you were speaking to a retard, since i’m still getting used to sf4 in general

It’s a new charge completely from the kikoken. It’s a good idea to throw kikoken with Chun-Li like :l::r:+:p::l:, you are immediately charging again after throwing it. In 3rd strike you can actually do :l::r::l:+:p: with Remy and his sonic boom comes out, but I’m not sure this works in IV. The advantage of doing it that way is that you can get the next charge finished as soon as possible. In this case Magneto just used the shortest amount of time to complete his ultra charge.

Yeah there is no charge partition, it was just a new charge right after the kikoken.

If the tornado doesn’t hit you it has some recovery. Punishing whiffed normals with ultra/super is the new thing for me, trying to work on that.

thanks. :china:

i guess i keep pressing the kicks too early.

not so ninja [e]dit:

finally got a win against a blanka today using dash in ultra (after blocked EX blanka ball). thanks again, buddy.

This Chun Li always goes apeshit mode in the last round, fighting like if there was no tomorrow.

Nice video, MM. It should help those who need a visual aid. You’ve done this so you might as well do the EX Legs one, too.

gotta say thanks to MagMan and Azrael as well for posting up some of their vids, I enjoy watching them. Keep it up please the more vids the better!

Thanks for these. The link combo at 3:11 of the Akuma Match was super sexy. I can nail that in training mode after a bit of warm up but I’d never trust myself to try it mid-match. Too many players mashing for shoryu’s in the hope you’ll mess up your strings -.-.

LOL i just saw these… very nice MM… i am indeed proud of the stomp stuff you were doing even tho it seemed to get you a life loss in the first round of the 3rd vid… he AA’d your upstomp… yeah that happens against jumpy people.

i liked how you zoned and dominated your space well with back dashes and kikokens it definitely seemed like you were playing a “strat” versus that rufus. thats good.

you mixed up your pokestrings well also but i was most impressed by how well you played against the divekick pressure… nerves of steel baby! that rufus DIDNT try to throw you enough tho… he has solid options after you tech one… but nice play nonetheless from BOTH of you, and with lag at that.

@ MM

watched your recent matches.

some stuff I noticed, you could try next time.

those regular tornados to absorb fireball = suicidal. should have walked into its range, then just jump up straight > big combo. Even from far away I would have jumped in on it.

Not sure if you know this, cuz online play, lag input makes us all look like crippled old housewives, but, you can punish the follow ups of EX messiah.

If he goes for MK, HK (sweep, overhead jump) :

Focus (do not do this on the flashkick/LK followup unless they do it immediatley w/o delay > it armor breaks, so bye bye focus)

If they do flashkick right away, there is no gap for you to do Focus. If they delay it, your FA comes out.

But, if you crouched the at the end and kinda delay your FA from crouch, you can avoid Flash (youll block it), block sweep anyway, and have some time to react to overhead w/ FA, since youre in crouch.

Another thing I do, I just jump away, or up. Not sure though if Rufus has time to punish you there. Cant punish him when I come down, but at least I have the momentum, he is forced to block (if he doesnt have a counter/ fast AA there)

Airthrow for overhead. (Not sure anymore on that, so test it yourself):razzy:

Something I have been messing with, but still need to do further testing with delayed followup.

I mash close MP^^. Works best if I block low first, then when the followups come, this happens.

flashkick > I block

sweep > I forgot what heppened lol, but it was positive, slaps into kikoken

overhead > slaps him in midair while he goes up into overhead kick…

TBH, focus is not really the punish burner. No crumble, and I wouldnt recommend FADC into more waiting EX messiahs.

PS. Only watched the match where you misstimed the Ultra, gonna watch rest another time.

PS2. crap, just saw your post in the other thread regarding rufus, oh well^^

EX legs tutorial methods up on my page. Ciddypoo as you can see I was fucking up a bit.

I think the reason why is because the lk~mk rhythm has to be the same as when you press EX legs for it to come out. Double tapping short makes the rhythm easier for me…it’s strange.

I’ll post a video explaining my method and why I think that some people might have trouble with it (or with EX legs coming out in general). I’m uploading it right now.

EDIT: Here.

I really try to stress the point of rhythm. I know that when I piano, I’m doing it too fast, which is why the EX won’t come out, but for some people they might not have the time or nerves to keep a staggered piano-ing rhythm in their heads. The consistent presses are a lot easier to come across, so long as you maintain the timing of c.LK.

Sorry if I really exaggerate my button presses on the rhythm, at the end but that’s the point I wanted to stress in the video. You can obviously relax and just treat the combo like your standard dialpresses. That’s how I would go about doing it in a real game.

Great videos, guys!

Like MagMan I was having trouble doing your method for EX Legs, Ciddypoo but after watching your video and hearing the rhythm you use, it doesn’t seem hard at all. I’ll try it out tomorrow.

Oh ok, I was doing it a bit too fast the first way then…wow it’s amazing how different double tapping short and alternating buttons’ timings are…I thought it was just like put 2 and 2 together and you get your technique…but it was really unique. Cool though, thanks for the explanation.
