I noticed that sometimes, you’re trying to do something on wakeup, and end up getting punished for it in some way. I noticed that my opponents online were actively baiting out EX SBK and then punishing me for it. So what I do sometimes is to just wakeup and do nothing. The biggest risk is throw, but if they throw out something trying to beat your wakeup, it lets you counter them.
I’ve been relying less and less on EX SBK the more I play. It really doesn’t work as a reversal or an AA effectively enough. More useful in combos than anything else, and against specific characters.
To Az - Balrog kind of asks me to back dash a lot. I usually buffer something in my blocks because Balrog’s offensive strings don’t hit low often (not air tight at least) and making him press roundhouse allows me to do other things and try and get away. I think it’s more advantageous to be trying to back dash/lk hasan-shu than to block and crouch tech.
It may sound weird, but playing to get away feels more safe to me (even when risking getting hit and reset) than sticking around to guess a grab or frame trap. His low jab into close roundhouse works like Chun’s, and he also has a great walk back low strong.
Don’t get me wrong though, block + ready tech is the best defense in any situation. But in Balrog’s case, it’s less guaranteed…and IMO, riskier than getting hit by a reset. If he lands a frame trap, he gets bigger hits. If he hits me out of a back dash or hasan-shu, he gets 1 hit.
As for EX SBK, I only used it once because I honestly though he was gonna throw and before of it I was crouch teching so I figured I’d just let it out. If he ticked like 1 more time and it didn’t come out, I would have started mashing on lk hasan-shu :D.
edit: Oh, and I told him how to get inside and/or push me to the corner without taking damage at all. So when we run it back, it’ll definitely be harder for me than it already was to begin with.
First round were all bad trades. Second round is a good way of fighting off balrog. Third round, I see 5 missed AA, and at least 2 super opportunites. Balrog on life lead don’t give a damn if you have full meter and throwing fireballs at you.

If you have life like that in the 3rd round no need to get even close to boxer, no point in reasoning if the other player going to mash jab on every little thing you do, so just stay away from him throw fireballs, to build super and voila you’re more in advantage of reversal almost everything he does to you.

You were getting hit by a lot b/c you were just throwing out moves, and he simply reacted or anticipate all of them.
Balrog’s jumping roundhouse beats Chun’s far fierce anti air, but the problem for Balrog with that is that he wouldn’t be landing jump ins anyway…it’s just to hit the limb. Low strong goes under a lot of the time. Balrog’s jump in short hits Chun’s fierce anti airs if it doesn’t go under and hit him.
I tend to walk away when I see a far ranged jump roundhouse.
Yes far range j.rh of balrog can beat chun’s standing fierce, but why would anyone just simply throw it out from that far, you can hit him after the animation from far with the standing fierce, it’s not anticipation from that range, you don’t need to just throw it out, just wait after that far if you see it, just press it. if he’s closer like at least by the lenght of your standing roundhouse, then yes you can just throw out the fierce punch.
Addition, why would balrog even jump from that far, if he jumps in from that far,
The run back vs Balrog! Not so good for the thigh team, though.

It’s obvious what I did wrong - I tried to play too random. But he did use his new tools and it demolished me, so…good games. I’ll play better next time!
MagMan, at 0:58 I noticed you threw out/connected a low short with no follow up. It wouldn’t have hurt to throw out a cr. jab right after it as a confirmed hit; you’d probably be able to link st. fierce or legs on reaction. When I see random low shorts, I think that I can probably start baiting crouch techs. A follow up combo would help veil your defense a little.
I felt for you against Sagat, that always happens to me too. You can be spacing perfectly, landing pokes, playing smart…and then come up short on vitality/damage. It’s ok though you’ll definitely get him next time.
Against the Balrogs…those fierces were ALL DAY. If they don’t know the match it’s fraaaaay.
