Eh, I think the main problem here is that you are totally unable to counter a non comboed mixing of dashpunch/overhead. Infact that Balrog played really, really terribly, he was painful to watch, and all of this because you let him do. But I guess, that was the safest thing to do for him.
Use st.FP, and start using strong, both as normal pokes but more importantly to just stop the dashes. Also, your kikouken pressure was bad, you had a shitload of opportunities to throw safe kikoukens (like when you both stood on the 2 sides of the screen doing nothing), but you just stood there blocking for no reason. You blocked too much, and made your opponent think you were scared of his moves, so he just stormed you. That’s just the impression I got from the video.
Anyway, the pros will be able to give you better advices between a BB game and another.
Edit: also you got the bad habit of sweeping too much. By the end of the set that Rog was adapting and was just away of sweep range waiting to punish you with his sweep, which he did a couple of times. But that’s more of a general thing instead of Balrog matchup specific.
The reason I am not poking allot is because I’m being overly casus. I’m starting to get use to poking with s.hk s.hp and stuffin his jumps. Also baiting out his head butts and crossing him up with j.lk is helping allot.
I basically was looking to find any loop holes witht his match up, like something that out right ebats what he’s doing. I was thinking that blocking his rush punch and then doing her ultra after words would bea good idea. but its not really working out well, Countering with super is fine, but i need the ex meter for setups to ultra or to us ex spining bird to counter his jump ins.
I guess i just need more experience with this match up all together
Okay. So a fellow srk member recorded one of my matches. One of my bad matches.
But I gotta post it here for all the advice I can get. Plenty of terrible moments, a few good; if you’re so inclined, please send some feed back my way.

Daigo Vs Haneyama
Chun does well and plays a good game
On another note I’ve ordered a Dazzle so I can record some of my matches so you’ll all be able to offer help or harsh criticism (which is cool as well anything to get better ;)).
been wanting to post some for a while but haven’t been able to, I seem to have hit a brick wall. Got my chun down pretty well but haven’t felt any improvement in that last few weeks so help from outside will really help me push past this barrier…
Wakasashe: I use cr.mk into kikoken when rogs charge me as it hits for two hits and pushes them back a bit. Could offer other tips but I imagine other people will do it better…
First three seconds into the match: Med. Kiko thrown wayyy too close to Balrog who had been charging his turn punch right from the moment the announcer says “Fight”. You want to get some positioning and most importantly, try to feel out your opponent before making any sudden moves.
0:28 – Random Ultra. BAD!!! I know that the chips were down, and the odds seemed against you (though speaking from experience, it IS possible with win with extremely low health), but there was honestly no way you were going to hit him. That action was the equivalent of just putting your stick on the floor and accepting defeat.
0:30 thru 0:45 – Learn to Focus Absorb Rog’s Turn Punch. This is a lot better than letting it chip you and getting a better position to pressure you with headbutts or walk up grabs. Each time you successfully absorb a move, back dash… but AVOID getting yourself put in a corner.
0:50 – Good AA execution – you NEED to exploit this more often. When you have a position that’s three-quarters or full-screen away from Rog, this is when you ought to be dishing out the fbs, baiting him to jump. When he does, close in with st. fierce. St. RH is also effective, but you need to know the right range… whiffing it will just be asking for easy punishment against an aggressive Rog.
0:55 – Also good that you caught him with Hasans. This should have been your cue that he was weak against it. Mixing up your normals with Hasans would ultimately make it more difficult for him to maintain his charge for turn-punch and headbutts (which obviously you know leads to free Ultra juggle damage like he did at 1:02).
1:08 – Gotta watch his grabs. Practice with a friend to get the timing down against his animation, so you can get better at teching. You don’t wanna get caught out there with too many of those.
Round 3 – Man, that guy pretty much got to have his way with you. He didn’t fear you at all, which is why jumping in, using constant rush punches, etc. was so liberal. He needs to get the idea that he can’t jump into her at all and as the other skilled Chunners like Mag, Madden, Az, and Dime will tell you – she has the tools.
I notice you almost never, ever used her neutral j. roundhouse. Man, this move is awesome when used effectively. Anytime you sense a rush punch is coming, this is a great and easy move to stop Rog dead in his tracks. Poking with st. strong is also very effective and you don’t use it enough. You can’t rely on just st. fierce, especially when the opponent is able to pick up on the holes in your zoning. St. foward is also effective, but you have to fish for these opportunities. Also, her EX kicks; cr. short, cr. jab-> st. fierce and short, short->EX kicks (to name a few) are missing your tactical toolbox and these are mandatory moves you ought to using all the time!! In short, you gotta use more of your normals and use them confidently. Her specials are just an added bonus in maintaining her offensive/defensive options. Also, don’t do so many random throws, you often did this when you weren’t even in range which gave Rog way too many opportunities to punish you.
Your rematch was basically duplicates the same faults so I won’t bother creating another outline, just focus on the areas above and you’ll fare much better.
The end of round 1… Daigo did a good job of pressuring Chun in the corner with fireballs. But… Haneyama had an ultra the whole time… why didn’t he just stuff the fireballs with an ultra? He would’ve had the round.
Hah thought I’d find you on here man. GG’s and hope to get some more in another time.
Ohh trust me you don’t wanna be doing that. It can be thrown though and certain moves will stuff it on reaction.
Sorry Gus, but I disagree with you. It’s not a bad move if done reactionary.
I do agree that random FAs against the wrong players is risky, but they are certainly not pointless to use.
I think what he means is that TAP/Turn Punch cannot be focused since it has armor break.
Ah. Y’know – I am probably getting his Turn Punch mixed up with the standard Dash Punch, which is safe to absorb. It’s still handy, but ya now i totally see where he’s coming from. I hate that Armor Breaking shit.
edit: help me out here Mag! LOL. I think you play Rog somewhat.
if anyone doesnt mind, i just got a capcard and will start uploading lots and lots of vids, got about 15 up just from today and gonna put up like 15 more before i go to sleep, any tips or help is appreciate aswell. so when u get a chance check out
Thanks.
That was indeed what I meant.
Haha. My first instinct when I see Balrog hurl himself towards me is to focus. Sometimes it works. Sometimes he smashes my face. Getting hit by a lvl4 or 5 when you’re Seth is very disheartening.
I’m trying to find the timing on the match you mention but i dont see it lol the advice is really good. i’m going to take all im learning and the ext time i play him i’ll record and show you guys what i’ve learned
Oh ho ho I srsly wanna play Javits now :nunchuck:. I keep forgetting to send him a friend request
Nice matches Mag even though you lost a majority of them. Javits’ Honda is pretty good.
I’m gonna have to get a ps3 soon, too many good players play on it on SRK and here in East Texas… Damn you guys for not going 360
Big thanks man, Sometimes I gotta hear the faults to know where to fix 'em.
Appreciate the discussion guys.
LoL at lukas parting words on that match: “your doing really good on the ground, you just need to work on your anti-airs”
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS… it is chun for chrissakes.
but yeah you need to work on the far st.fp as an AA versus rog… they all complain about it.
also… something that i was starting to implement versus charge characters which helped out my ground game immensely was poking VERY liberally with st.mp. normally that isnt good cause they can jump it if chun is too predictable with it, but versus charge characters you can focus the instant you recover from the wiffed strong and absorb backdash instead of having to block and then get mixed up by throw/ counterhit jab nonsense.
also… like me, you need to pump up your ranging abilities. you wiffed too many attacks that you were trying to hit, in this case i actually think that your PURPOSEFUL wiffs/fakes were psyching you out. remember that sometimes the best course of action is to just do some crouch fakes and what not. always faking by wiffing jabs and strongs can actually tell your opponent that you dont have a full understanding of the ground game.
but good stuff, you’ve gotten better since the last time i saw you play, much more patient this time around and not so jab happy:tup:
