Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

No, why (I think) he gets angry with them is because it would take him a page and a half just to tell him what he does wrong with just playing the game. Then comes what he is doing wrong with Chun. Not fun, imo. He might not of known he was bad? He got hit by 4 full screen headbutts in a row… if thats not Dan-tier Im not sure what is.

And about casuals not coming here because of the mindset. Its a fighting game forum, more specifically, a street fighter forum. Most people who post here and have been posting here for a long time are not casuals. They are long time players. And for the longest time they have only been discussing high level videos and strategies. Then all of a sudden SFIV comes out and half the people registering here post such rewarding threads as “How do I headbutt???” and “What is TAP?”

So going from talking about top strategies to having to explain the basics… on a daily basis… to about twelve different people who dont know what a search button is. I can understand some hostility that might be bred from it.

I just figured the EC shit talk/hype (or WC for that matter in some cases) is not for everyone.

It would help if a player practiced the basics of proper game play if they want to learn. If they don’t want to learn…then SRK is probably not the right forums for that, and a more casual gamer forum will accept you with open arms.

It’s ok to be new and all, everyone starts out like that. Just a matter of who actually tries in their matches, instead of you know…following the flowchart.

As always, online is just a tool. Can be used for bad (gaining bad habits of mashing) or good things (learning by playing how you would offline). The real win is gaining proper knowledge and using it to win offline in tournaments.

I guess we’re going to have to agree to disagree. And I wasn’t only just specifically talking about that Chun player and Mega, but rather in a broad sense of the general attitude people can have towards people who are bad at the game or are noobs. It doesn’t really matter if people are asking noob questions regardless of how long they’ve been on the forum. Either direct them to where they can find their answer, answer it yourself respectfully, or just ignore it and move on. To me, frustration is not an excuse. If typing out a long winded answer to basic gameplay functions is gonna aggravate you to the point where you’re going to start to be rude, just don’t answer it. It seems so simple to me that that would be the most obvious solution.

Being rude is most likely just gonna engage you and another person in a round of insult posts. It’s not worth it. Again, critique respectfully without being rude, or just ignore it. There’s no reason you should have to be rude to another poster just becasue thy’re not good at the game or they’re asking questions that seem stupid to you. It’s not like many of these posters are intentionally trolling if they ask “How do I do a headbutt.” etc etc. I don’t think directing them to another forum is the answer, but if you must, you could at least do that without insulting them.

I agree with Saturius. And I also dont see your logic Clxjames. You think its okay to be rude to another person just because you are supposely adding criticism. I think a simple “You need to stop alot of your flowchart work from your game” would of done the trick. After readings Mag’s post, I really felt sorry for Dr. the poor fella. I would of guessed he was looking for a pat on the head along with a “you still have a long way to go to improve reply”.

Considering alot of us are Chun players. Im always happy to meet and play a fellow player as I know how “Mid tier” her character is compare Sagat, Ryu. So shouldnt we stick together and be a little nicer to one and another. Rather bashing each other and making comments as “Scurb Chun players go f off and play Balrog”.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge that Mag does alot for the Chun Li Community fourms here at SRK. He offers alot of the best advice regarding Chun, SF4, etc. But it seems from previous post that he plays alot of favoristim to the regular ppl who kiss his ass and offer rude comments to ppl he doesnt know.

I really dont understand Mag last comment about how not all people are going to EVO and not everyone wants to win. Sounds like hes taking another shot against Dr. In my opinion, I nearly think its impossible to be Chun #1 at EVO. Ryus, Sagats, Akumas and Seths are just to good vs Chun. I would think that is why Mag also gave up on Chun and plays Viper.

I think good manners is very important in the gaming community. I think its something the gaming players here lack sometimes compare to Japan. With good manners comes good relationships and good relationships will breed good times.

Here is my two cents. Feel free to bash me now. But I really felt I had to take this stance.

man. I wish I had a way of recording my matches. I’d love to see what sort of reaction I’d receive :stuck_out_tongue:

The internet isn’t famous for its manners.

Also, shit-talking/insulting is a part of the fighting game community. If you take it seriously you’re doing it wrong.

Hm…

thinks

BURN HIM!!1! :mad::grrr::annoy::chainsaw:

holy sh*t…I’m definitely not posting any of my Chun vids after the total annihilation that was given to Dr. hahahah.

I feel the same way about Cammy though…when I see a new Cammy poke or start a round with Spiral Arrow…I just shake my head…but I usually message tips afterwords…

…afterall I’m still a noob that is learning the game (or you know…one of those players that are just bad at the game).

It sort of comes with the territory, everyone starts out somewhere. I’m a pretty decent snowboarder and when noobs come up we just give them pointers after we get done discussing “high level” stuff amongst ourselves. But if you want your sport or hobby to grow…you have to give a little.

I agree.

However,
MM’s given a hell of a lot of time and effort to this forum.

But back on the whole video thing.

While we’re waiting for the full 14 hours of SBO Quals footage, I found a really cool video showing some of the hype that took place.

Chun videos

Some nice chun videos of SAW (jp player) vs Desora (Sagat player) here:

Thanks for posting, these are some great vids.

EDIT#1: AA kikoken followed by dash EX legs is just so beautiful to watch.

EDIT#2: cr.forward to dodge lk tiger knee. I keep forgetting to practice that.

EDIT#3: cl. st. fierce seems to risky to use as a jump in anti air. Maybe it works better against bigger opponents.

EDIT#4: Damn, that d/f RH ambiguous cross-up is mean.

EDIT#5: SAW is a beast.

EDIT#6: SAW doesn’t know the Gouken match-up

Thanks for posting those, as a new guy to Chun it was very insiteful to look at some of the stuff he/her was doing.

Me losing. Partially showing how online fucks someone up in a real tournament :p.

The 3rd match is where I play Chun. The ending is hilarious, online tick throw = tick into whiffed throw because of blockstun offline. No excuses though, I lost when it counted…raaape!!!

Whenever the main TD uploads his videos…they will be on a bigger screen and better in quality of game play since I stepped it up after that. Still waiting on those, I’m ready to see what I lost to vs Sim/Ryu…I can’t remember play for play what happened exactly.

@ your Chun match

Watch the kikoken pressure when Rog has meter and Ultra. Im seeing more and more Rogs Ex Dash Punch xx Ultra as of late. The Ex move absorbs the kikoken so his Ultra goes through and connects

Nub question: xx means cancel right?

Yes it does.

The music playing in the background is .

Your Viper is very sick Mag. I liked that blocked ex seismo into a burning kick in place so you could tk his dash punch. I saw some messed up FFFs but what do you know. Everyone chokes once in a while. Blocked ex rush upper is safe against super =[. That failed tick at the end was sadface too. You placed very well nonetheless.

Nice match Magman. It was heartbreaking at the end but it was still good. Didn’t know Jibbo was there too (or was he?) though I expected to see Eric K. and a few others I recognize from VA walking around.

I personally wish all of Rog’s rush punches of any kind was at least -7 on block. This is not for the sake of balance though… it’s just my hatred towards the character vs. Chun (though I LOVE playing as him ironically). I tried that reversal super shit on Rufus’s Galactic Tornado once only to find out that it was still safe against a 2 frame move. I hate when that happens >_< (found out later EX version is punishable though). I tried punishing it with Ultra before that and was extremely disappointed. I like it when having revenge meter shuts down some of the best options for certain characters… but we can’t have it all I suppose =/

GS on 3rd place Mags. Represent!

Indeed it does. Also referred to as ‘canceled into’. A recent example:

Darklight’s Xbox live Gold Membership xx Xbox live Silver Membership.

^That combo is so broken.

Nemo vs Sukijuuji(Honda player).

Nice ultra juggle in the second round.

Not a Chun match, but check out the first round.

Blanka cross-up ultra. Run for your lives.

I hate the Rog overhead too. Lately I’ve gotten better at blocking it - if I see Rog rushing forward in that situation, I tend to just block high. There’s only one thing Rog can do to hit me off a high block, and it only knocks me down - no combo into ultra juggle. You can also theoretically hit him out of it if you are fast enough with the jabs/shorts.

You would have won easily if not for the overhead punch.

Also, I too have learned the hard way that Rog’s EX dash punches are safe from super retaliation.

Yeah, I’ve had some Blankas on PSN try it against me. It used to own me, but I’m getting better at blocking it now.

Cross up Ultra? From what I assume is when he tries to hit behind you after the jump up right? Cant you just dash under him then?

Or do you mean that they Suprise Forward past you and then Ultra?
