Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

Great matches, MM! Good job with the s.MK AA’s.

Thanks mayne, I forgot to add one thing in my post.

My buddy Rome told me something about Chun vs Rufus. After a blocked tornado, he’s at -3 right? So you can stick out a jab always and stop his pressure, while still avoiding EX messiah kick. Pretty cool to know, especially in the corner ^^.

Damn, I never thought about that.

Good info as usual!

Good stuff MM.

One thing I’d might add is using LK hazanshu to keep him weary of using EX messiah kick’s follow ups, it completely owns all of them.

^Cool, I’ll keep in mind. Rufus players seem to have a break out on reversal snake strikes, probably because it works like reversal hasan-shu/short burning kick.

Man…hopefully French dude uploads some NSB6 videos. I saw some, and it’s hard to explain how to get there. The buffering on Japanese websites doesn’t work good for me, either. I just get raped every time I try and go back.

But what I did see was Y 2 4 against a Ryu player. For those who don’t know, Y 2 4 is the Chun player who invented the match up tools vs Blanka and Balrog. I assume most of the other match up tools, because this player is just like THAT (EC talk for those who are like wtf).

So yeah…man, he was giving it to that Ryu player with all the fundamentals. Then the bastard hit her with an EX fireball into ultra in the corner. GGPO Chewnies .

It was really fun watching him play though, he reminds me of how I was thinking when I first picked up the game. I almost forgot about my 3s spacing on their wake up, about walk then tap down and walk up then mix up again. Completely have abandoned that in my game. It’s not that great, but in high level…that flinch just makes the opponent react in a different way.

It is very cool to watch great players play again. Hopefully we get to see more Nagoya Chuns in action, I always learn something…a lot, every single time.

5 Sets of Nemo vs Daigo

Just follow the video responses.

Thanks for posting.

Man, that was brutal. It’s like nemo doesn’t know the match. Someone saying something about 7:3 ??? Nemo says a lot of random stuff, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he said that for Ryu vs Chun. I mean, he did say it about Viper vs Chun .

I know it’s Daigo and all, but if Daigo is going to open me up and mind fuck me…it won’t be due to me trying to low strong jump in fierces or anything of that sort. I know I would still get annihilated …but in the way I get annihilated will look prettier .

Neat, I’ve never seen a japanese Chun use kikoken dash ex legs before. Damn, Nemo’s getting wrecked tho.

Daigo’s crossup defense is bruuutal.

!_! the last set made me sad.

Nemo: Nyah nyah.

Daigo: walks up

Nemo: zomg crouch tech

Daigo: EX Tatsu 2 Ultra (only in the corner)

Nemo: Curses!

Im surprised Nemo tried the command crossup even once.

Daigo’s the only person Ive ever seen that will walk right up to your face and dare you to throw anything out.

The crossup is safe enough compared to her alternatives. Walk forward from the corner, crouch in the corner, or jump over him.

The thing about the last set is that all options that weren’t take a throw could lead to Ryu’s ultra. haha

I really wanted to murder the announcer.

First, some Daigo nut-hugging. Again, his ability to throw fireballs in people’s faces is amazing. He didn’t fireball spam, just knew exactly when to throw one.

Also, note that Daigo doesn’t really give up ground to Nemo. He does footsies, but he never really lets the screen scroll behind him. Nemo can’t jump at him, so either he’s got to stand his ground and take his chances, or fall back. This eventually drove Chun into the corner. In the instances where Daigo was pushed into the corner, he turned the tables pretty quickly with a crossup.

Now, given that Nemo is probably 100000x better of a Chun player than me, I’m probably not qualified to say these things, but here I go anyway.

There are some matches in which I feel that we Chun players should just forget that she has a fireball, and Ryu is definitely one of those. Mid-range usage, especially against Ryu, is risky because he can jump over it on reaction, and then punish dearly. Which Daigo did a few times. Use it for knockdown pressure, or AA at the right distance, but aside from that…I think its more risk than reward.

At one point, Nemo did S.MP FADC backwards as Daigo activated a FA. It costs 3 bars, but it kept him out of the FA…but I’m thinking this was a nice place for the FADC backwards ultra. I want to try this out in the training room…FADC a poke into ultra.

In the second set, when Chun hits the super…was it just that Ryu was walking forward when it activated? Good God. I swear, that super has negative startup frames. Like, it actually reverses time a little bit and then starts up.

Yeah he’s a complete retard. How was he given permission to announce sets between 3 top players .

Yeah that’s the same thing I was thinking. Nemo is better than us, but there appears to be no reason as to why he got hit by things that can easily be avoided. Probably out of nervousness, it’s the only way I’ll understand some of his decisions.

Like you said, Daigo’s fireball use was definitely on point. It seemed to have got nemo afraid to footsie or something. For some reason, he did what I did online; start to guess with hasan-shu.

Well, it takes 1 frame to activate and 1 frame to hit. Daigo knew there was no way out, so I think he tried to do something before the hitting frame touched him or something. Chun’s super is pretty cool though, you can really see the freeze on what they were trying to do when it activates :wow:.

lol

brahbruhbruhbruhbruh bruh

walla walla washington that announcer is crazy.

edit:

i think nemo was thinking way too much vs daigo.

edit2:

am i hearing this right?

“let’s go justin” @ 2:00 someone in the youtube comments heard it.

The more I think about that video, the more it amazes me.

Daigo perfectly zoned Nemo with very little fireball usage. He kept advancing on Chun without giving up ground - he put Nemo in a position where he would either have to stand and fight, or back down. Nemo chose to back down (and hell, most of us would against Daigo) and Daigo forced him into a corner where Ryu’s options increased and Chun’s decreased sharply.

Imagine you are playing Chun against Daigo. He’s fairly close range - his fireball usage is sporradic enough so that its extremely difficult to try and jump or even Hasan Shu through it. If you jump at him, you WILL get DP’ed. He’s throwing out c.forward which is a good poke for Ryu and leads to fireball combo damage. And getting in enough FA stances so that anything random you do to try and counter could possibly be FA’ed for massive damage. What do you do?

Me…I would try to not give up my ground. Ryu just standing there may be intimidating to attack, but Chun sitting on DB isn’t helpless either. Stay somewhat stationary, and if Ryu wants to push me in the corner he’s gonna have to come closer. If I’m not walking back and forth, it may be easier to try and HS or even ultra through one of those short range fireballs on reaction.

I think I would also try to use FA more. Chun can FA through a fireball at close range and then smack Ryu while he’s still in recovery. FA may slow down his FB/c.forward poke game. The added bonus is that he may try to throw EX FB to discourage the FA - eating an EX FB isn’t cool, but its MUCH better than DP FADC, or taking a super fireball to the face.

Then, just try and find little openings in which to get in a low short. Maybe some in-close LK HS usage. If he tries to counter the HS with FA, then I can throw him out of it.

A tough matchup to be sure. This is why Daigo is so good.

I think versus a character that can uppercut-on-reaction you out of moves, you have to make them start to doubt doing it.

For example, if my Hazanshus are getting SRK’d or Focus absorb, I go nuts with lk hazanshu whiffs. Instead of them simply reacting to the sound or visual cue, they have a split second more of having to judge whether it’s in range or not.

Can’t watch the match right now, but I just want to comment on the “Nemo is so much better than us and yet…” comments. For me personally I find that if I give in to the notion that someone IS better than me it’s a fight against myself AND a good player. Similarly, if you only look at a player and think he’s not just better, but way way waaay better than you, you’ll have an extra hard time getting yourself over the mental hurdle to become as good/better. I know it’s offtopic and you guys probably didn’t mean to imply as much as what I took from your replies.

Reading posts by Az and MM I’m convinced they can come up with workable (but not necessarily optimal) solutions to any difficult strategic situation. I’m convinced I can do the same. Many people have enough knowledge about the game to solve those little problems, but putting that into practice is much harder than you would think it is, which is why having in-depth knowledge doesn’t imply being a top-player. Before I continue my rant for too long, I want to conclude by saying: Yeah, Nemo is a better Chun player than anyone posting in this thread (most likely), but some of us will get to where he is at now over time if they invest the time and effort.

Thanks for the link Ark Impulse!

Round three of set 02 was painful. It was decided on one move in the first six seconds. Brutal is definitely the word. I really liked to see the aggressive play from Nemo in round one of set 04. I would have liked to see more of that kind of pressure. The Jumping Medium Kick into Legs in the corner in round two of set 05 was really nice. It made me feel all warm inside.

Ryu has so many ways to land his Ultra and Super. It’s enough to make your head spin. It honestly seems like he can land it from anything.

Just out of curiosity were these recorded on the fifth of June or the sixth of May?

Hello, I just uploaded some videos of my Chun-Li gameplay:

http://www.youtube.com/user/XNOMaster

I’ll take comments, suggestions, criticals, compliments, etc (about gameplay I am aware of the recording flaws).

I hope you enjoy them :shy:

None of them work dewd.

The URL’s get messed up if I write them directly, so I’ll just leave the channel link
