I understand keep away strategies to win fights in tournaments and even ranked matches and championship mode, but in a casual??? And he didnt even try to counter just tried to run away till the time was up. No big deal though. He’s still a great player.

some good matches, though it did seem Nemo had somewhat of an skill advantage in some cases.
Nemo vs Nami was good.
Nemo wasn’t playing like I would think a grandmaster ranked Chun would against Sagat. But I choke in situations in tournament, too. I see that he blatantly saved his ultra the first round. It was good, but it was fairly late in the game and I think he should have just let it out. He fixed that in the 2nd round though, he let it out near the same time. He totally got robbed with that bullshit trade uppercut into ultra, even BEHIND him. Third round was great…I learned that you can harass Sagat with ambiguous and non ambiguous d/f+roundhouses.
Although, the Sagat player from my area easily uppercuts d/f+roundhouses if they’re not safe.
Empty jump into c.short, EX Legs. ST/Alpha style! Such a classic but still effective trick. I should use it more.
Also, in the final vid, that poor Rufus player totally had corner ultra juggle against Nemo in the final round. It probably would have given him the round. I know how that feels.
Also, non-Chun related…the Mago’s Sagat Vs the Honda vid…low Tiger Shots, then run Uppercut/Knee to punish jump-overs. Disgusting.
Did anyone notice in nemo’s match vs the rufus player he did a slightly different counterhit string?
He did the usual cr.LP into counterhit cl.HK, but instead of cancelling straight to the MK hasan-shu he just directly comboed into cr.LK from the cl.HK.
Any thoughts on that?
I’m guessing the damage would be lower but the link to cr.LK would be easier (by 1 frame).
Yeah I posted the frame trap and it’s mixups in the block strings thread. It’s a mix up in case he blocked it. You can throw after the roundhouse too, if you take a step.
Are you sure its not a failsafe, bait against possible Focus attack in case you did LK hazanshu after blocked cl HK?
So on block, no HS, on hit, gogogo HS.

Yea, I think ppl are starting to catch on that when they see the cl.HK they know a hasan-shu is coming, so by not doing it adds some safety to it.
My post before was there to highlight that cr.LK also combos from counterhit cl.HK, so you don’t always have to go for the hasan-shu to punish people from this setup.
Well, you have to know what it’s used for before using it. It counters people who like to crouch tech/tech, jump away, and back dash only. Reversals hit the close roundhouse. Focus attacks get hit twice easily.
No, youre not getting it. And yes, I know what the purpose of the cl. Hk.
Focus the hazan shu, not the cl. HK, to clarify just in case.
This is kinda like with Abels Rekka, if I see the 1st part, I instantly mash like crazy on Focus on reflex, so no matter which high or low version on 2nd part comes, Chun smacks him.
So whats a Abel to do if you keep doing that? Stop after 1st part, throw you (or use any other focus breaking move).
Now fast forward to present day, Japan. Do you really think among high level play in Japan, people will just block and do nothing after blocking cl. HK, when in almost every case of low LP, cl HK, HS (used to) follow?
They guess correctly youre not gonna go for throw, see you do cl Hk and do nothing, even though HS will come right after?
If Chun fights characters like sim w/o reversals on wake up, I doubt very much Chun mix up from low LP is win win whatever she does w/o any risks.
Hazan Shu is a gamble, suprise move that dies horrible to Focus. If youre being predictable (and doing cl HK or even far MP into HS) is announcing big time your Hazan Shu.
So once again, I believe Japan is already so far that Chuns counter mindgame their opponents (I know that if I do HS after cl. HK, he will Focus, so I dont and punish him for it) OR they option select their hazan shu , meaning, only execute HS if it hits, never on Block out of fear for Focus.

cr.short -> EX legs beats focus. So does throw.
If you knew the answer, why did you ask? You do what you would do any time anyone attempts to catch hasan-shu with a focus…
Also in other strings like when Nemo does st.strong -> hasan-shu which is horrible when people are looking for it. He does st.strong -> kikoken, if they focus he hits twice with st.roundhouse + the slow kikoken.
edit: If you review matches of Nemo, you can see him going for the frame trap string a few times before throwing the hasan-shu in. He rarely starts off with the hasan-shu.
Strong MP into kikoken only comes into play from a stationary position, you walk forward, I know that youre not gonna kikoken anymore, sucker me in with that.
People do stand MP into HS from offensive, not from defensive position. You have no charge or lose it fast the moment you advance, attack.
And youre missing the point.
We are discussing why Japan doesnt do HS after every cl HK anymore. Thus my theory, trying to avoid Focus.
Whatever they use to punish Focus in that situation or do in case Hazan shu is a nono, too risky, thats what we want to know. > I believe they OS the HS depending on how cl. HK hits (which must be very hard, so maybe not?)

Actually, st.strong -> strong kikoken is charged from cr.short, cr.jab, cr.jab and is used on offense pretty often by Nemo and even other Chuns. Nuki isn’t a fan of those type of mix ups though.
They never did do hasan-shu 100% of the time after a close roundhouse.
The same reason why you wouldn’t do the same thing every time.
I don’t know what you mean by OS, but it’s a mix up. Characters like Dhalsim can’t really do anything about it early on in the game, so that’s why it’s less seen against uppercutters.
I think Nemo could have ultra’d Honda at 2:15 after the trade.
maybe he wasnt close enough to the coner

some vids of me vs one of the best fei long players on live. i need to work on my punishes, crumple punishes, and definately need more practice with the crumple backdash to ultra and to get out of that bad habit with the headstomp combo (that i constantly mess up ).
all advice / criticism appreciated
chun has a hard time vs the mexican, nemo got his ass kicked.
