Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

It’s both, I found this out a few weeks ago, maybe I wrote about it here somewhere?
Anyway, you gain meter from it and have enough time to perform meaty cr.mp, far mp or cr.hk, I think you can also use mk hazanshu and be left with the same options, I believe it’s also auto-timing for meaty cr.mp against some characters.
You can also use lk/mk sbk to setup meaty cr.lp/cl.hk/cl.hp if I’m not remembering things the wrong way, and you also gain meter as with hazanshu.

Nice battles skatan your chun is top notch

To Magneto: cr.mp traded a lot in those videos, i use cr.fp against sagat cause it’s safer

btw skatan nice steez on video 5 around :40

Man, I gotta sort through those matches Skatan posted - I’ve already seen some from before and it’s very inspirational!

Thanks for the kind words everyone!

MM: I think Louie is a pretty solid player though and we’ll see who’s better out of the two of us next month at Dreamhack Summer which has a hefty pricesum for the winner.
Yeah I like my system setup too though, especially my TV since I haven’t noticed much delay from it which was a HUGE relief when I bought it since that was my main worry when looking for an hdtv.

cr.hp over cr.mp, as an anti-air I assume?
There are a few different reasons, but the main one is that cr.hp can never be empty jumped and ultra/shoryu’d.
Of course, there are times when I will use cr.mp, but as long as I can get away with using cr.hp I will stick with that against characters it works well against.
The other reason is that it can be canceled into specials, so cr.fp xx mp kikouken will give me some free chip damage and meter, or it will connect allowing me to easily tag on b+mk combo giving me more damage than any of her anti-air options and a big chunk of meter, I think it almost fills a whole bar.
You can switch b+mk with cr.mk xx ex legs into ultra if you have the chance to do it, I haven’t gotten to the point where I have that in the back of my mind while playing, but it’s nice that the option is there.
The weakpoint of this tactic is that it’s possible for them to shoryu instantly after they get reset to go through the kikouken and possibly hit me if I haven’t recovered (this has never happened so this is theory), but like i said, this has never happened so far so I will keep using it until it consistently does.

I dunno, it works both ways for me because:

 1. Online players are usually horrible

 2. Offline I can st.forward shotos and Sagat without worry

 3. I haven’t been empty jump uppercutted, but she does recover real quick from low strong.

cr. mk to lower your hitbox to escape the cr.lp lk xx tiger knee loop

Nice.

Yea, now that you mention it I think you did say something about it. I’m a bit of a dunce that way at times -.-. Thanks for going over it again in such depth. I recently decided that I knew so little about meaty setups that it’s something I need to study and practise.

I only watched the first 2 Sagat video’s so far, but it seemed like in the second match you took alot of damage because he could trade his Tiger Uppercut against your fierce punch in the air and then get his insane damage-addons for free. I stopped sticking fierce or roundhouse out in the air when Sagat isn’t in recovery… I mostly use lk now, but, the blockstun on it is really bad, so I have to look for reversals when I land. Thanks for the videos, I’ll check out a few more when I have time later.

nice vids from Skatan ^^
i dont watch all vids but some of the rufus vids and theres not much to do in this matchup, in vid 5 of skatan he get cornered and dive kick. When Rufus lands hes always doin this tornado trick which does a lot of chip damage :frowning:

What optins does chun have in this matchup ?
when i try to hit him, he hits me first because of block stun and i get more damage

When he lands, he can continue the same shit whole time or throw me !

Last night i was in a G 2 Final and i lost against a Rufus who was cornering me like seen in skatan vids.
A good Rufus is killin chun i think :frowning:

Hes strong AND quick WTF, Capcom !

MagMan had an awesome post in the other thread about this match up:

http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=6666924&postcount=1131

there are some other good posts on that page too.

in short, you want to zone rufus with fireballs and avoid the really bad situations that gives rufus the advantage. i know, it’s easier said than done. also, be very conscious of your location on the screen. you really don’t want to be in the corner against rufus (especially with chun because of her health).

MagMan: Here’s a good example of what can happen if you use cr.mp at the wrong time: Check the match at 12:00

Tai has a reaction of a god or something… he impresses me alot on many ocasions.

Nemo (playing chewnies of course)

http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm7004869 11:53 vs a good Ryu

The video is around 30 minutes long so I think we’ll see more of him there.

I hope these are not old videos…

On that first one the dash Ex legs at 1:20 was awesome.

@ str(e)ak

thx for the link. ill try this next time against rufus ^^

here are some videos from the last tournament of the semester (at my school):

chun li vs. ken:

tips, suggestions, and criticism are welcome (again). a couple of things:
[] i don’t own the game, so i don’t have much time to practice execution. and, i know my execution with chun still needs a lot of work.
[
] i used neutral jump roundhouse a lot again. however, i didn’t use it as much as i did during the previous tournament.

i played a mix of chun li, ken, and ryu throughout the tournament.
I didn’t watch the ones vs Ken. The ones against Rufus…we won’t really be able to tell you anything, he doesn’t know how to play the match and you kept him out the whole game. He also doesn’t execute properly when he has the chance…so that just makes it easier for Chun.

Umm…the only thing I can tell you from those videos is to just replace jumping around with back dashing and reset the position to where it’s neutral. If he jumps over your poke and comes down with a dive kick, back dash away from the situation instead of block or jumping, which risks taking damage.

Good Rufus players will absorb until they get an ultra, so unless they’re jumping into anti airs like this player…it may be best to footsie with him because that’s where Chun has a huge advantage; in the poking game.

They also make better use of the dive kicks and make your anti airs whiff, if that happens just focus and back dash, or back dash after and continue to walk back/block depending on where he is and what his tendency to do after that situation.

Also, be careful with your pokes when he has meter. Some common set ups in mid level play are:

 • Whiff dive kick you poke at him into EX messiah kick

 • He’s spacing and then walks out of your poke range…then gets JUST inside you poke here into EX messiah kick.

There are some random ones I can’t remember but just remember to fish for EX messiah when he has meter occasionally. A good thing to get into a habit of is to know when your pokes will hit, or at least slow him down. Only then should you throw it out, instead of just using them to slow him down all the time…because that flows into a rhythm to where he can EX messiah kick. Hope that makes sense, hard for me to explain.

Also some Rufus players get desperate and try to fierce tornado through kikokens. You can easily walk back and st.roundhouse or st.fierce the end of it.

Last random tips are :

 • You can throw out random jabs. They beat his low fierce (funny) and his dive kicks (also looks funky).

 • Focus absorb dash up on his fierce, and punish the recovery with sweep. The common set up is medium kikoken (which beats his low fierce, similar to Dhalsim’s limbs) and when he tries to make a trade…you can focus absorb -> dash then sweep him on his recovery. It may take some experience to see…but when you’re in neutral, and his low fierce range, and you guys aren’t doing anything…he’ll most likely try to go for that trade.

awesome. thanks for the tips.

i’m assuming you meant st.jab against rufus’s dive kicks and cr.fierce, right? i only ask because i’ve beaten both of those with cr.jab before.

You’re welcome, and yeah both standing and crouching jab beat both dive kick and cr.fierce.

Hey here’s another Nuki vs Nemo mirror @ the temple stage this time

Rematch at the temple get hype!

edit: yuck, even more mashier and spazzy than the first one. I guess that’s why my opponents mash in Chun mirrors, looks like Nuki and Nemo say it’s alright, too.

Lol, you weren’t kidding! What the hell was going on when Nuki was cornered in round 1?
