Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

Found something cool, tho I’m guessing people probably knew already, chun li can beat viper’s HP DK when she reversals with it on wakeup. I’m guessing she can beat it by doing a reversal burnkick though.

If you’re talking about using cr. MK to make HP TK whiff, then yes, I think it’s a commonly known thing at this point. I will say if they abuse burn kicks a lot (because they’re airborne on the 1st frame), hit them out of it with st. HP because it goes over a lot of your normals other than that one and low profiling it isn’t always as consistent from my experience.

Well, this is the page of the Guile matchup I guess

Lud

Lud… Lud why? That outfit… its making my eyes bleed…

On a more serious note, loved that Zangief match, he started by playing defensively and was getting rolled so he completely switched gears and went offensive and completely took over the match up. The attention to spacing and timing so that he was almost never in SPD range unless he was air borne or had something active out was amazing, and you gotta love the courage to just walk right up to gief and do a cr.hp->legs right in his face. That was really the moment that turned the match around and DJ Eric DarkSide never recovered.

Edit: Also on a side note, in regard to the topanga decapre match, I know I must have spent too much time in the lab with Revers Flip Kick (DF+lk) because every time decap jumped at him and he anti-aired with ex bird I was screaming in my head “why didn’t you RFK into stomps or at least RFK into ex legs, you’d have gotten so much more damage!”

A few weeks ago I had a chun-li player who is much better then me, been playing her for years and has both better excution and better understanding of every match up, basically tell me I was wasting my time doing the RFK stuff and should just quit it, that the reason no top players seemed to use RFK was because there were so many far more vital parts of Chun’s game that it just wasn’t worth the time and memory allocation to master the timings and correct juggle punishes of RFK against every air move of every character. Told me as long as I wasted time on RFK I was guarenteeing that I’d always be awful at Chun which was pretty disheartening, but some times you have to be willing to accept constructive critism from your betters. Either way, it made a lot of sense, and explained why I see RFK used so infrequently in high level matches in situations I know from the training lab that RFK would have been the optimal response.

Fixating on one tool of hers is generally not good, it’s like limiting yourself when she has a lot of antiairs and good stuffer moves too. Go out there and use her other stuff too.

On the other hand, you don’t have to drop it completely. Take note of the dude’s words, but build your own identity from them. One of the cardinal rules in fighting games is “if it works, keep doing it” after all. Just don’t forget the other stuff and your overall game unless you truly want to be known as Mr df lk :3

What’s RFK?

…Red FoKus?

He meant Rear Flip Kick, the df. lk antiair.

If that’s the case, I wouldn’t throw it out completely. I’d use it mostly on close angled jumps when you’re ready to follow up with EX Legs, stomps or Ultra 2. It’s usually a good check if people want to get cute with jump ins in the the corner because even if you trade, you can get the followup.

Otherwise, it’s not as good as it used to be, so getting it not to trade is harder. I often forget I even have it until I’m playing vs. Rufus or someone with a strong tendency to jump. Most good players don’t jump often, so when they do I’m usually only ready to react with the default anti-airs of st. MK, st. HP, or EX SBK if I have charge.

Huh, really? I try to use cr.mp a lot, it actually seems fairly consistent. I think the fact that it low profiles actually even gives me a little extra time to pull it off. I also have a tendency to hold back when trying to do st.mk, which gives the wrong move…

I try to AA with sweep way too often though. I’m addicted to low profiling things even when I shouldn’t.

When I said default, I’m just referring to the ones I use the most because those are the first ones I learned and it’s been in my muscle memory since Vanilla SF4. I use pretty much all of her AAs, but those are the buttons I tend to press when I didn’t really expect the jump.

Been a while since I last saw him use Chun. Dat choke doe :disappointed:

I didn’t see a critique thread so I’ll leave this here

Trying to get back into my Chun game. Looking for constructive criticism

Stop getting hit by Stingers basically, I think that was like 60+% of the Decapre’s damage. She’s generally safe after her HHS, so followups are waiting on her end. If the jabs whiff, going on to fierce is generally not a good idea imo. I feel that you could have used some anti-airs other than EX SBK (e.g. sweep, c. mp, c. mk etc) so as not to waste meter

Fortunately the Decapre was doing even worse, you could have gone on the offensive when she was not doing much of anything (as long as your weren’t jumping into a Stinger). She did a random ultra and an in-your-face teleport that got easily punished. I haven’t found too much Decapre stuff that can be U1’d, so I tend to use U2 in this matchup.
