Good stuff. I need to know why the “show off” combo FA2 backdash, jump forward stomp etc. doesnt work. You kept trying to do it always lol. Had the feeling a lot of randomness (weird hitboxes?) involved when u missed.
chun_li1
Actually it’s not random at all, I just had pretty crappy execution that night, like I missed several basic cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.lk xx ex legs (Didn’t even bother to try for cr.mk xx ex legs at the end). But, BUT, the stomp combo won’t work if your focus attack connects to a crouching opponent unless you hit them from far away.
When I did backdash, j.rh that missed I was trying for j.rh (reset) and then hazanshu, I think I landed that setup in one of those vids though so you might have figured that out already.
Badass videos guys, keep them coming.
You know, watching all the videos in this post makes me sad. They make me realize how fucking terrible I am at playing and the only reason I’m winning is because the majority of the people I’m facing are simply worse than I am and not because I’m actually good, with the exception of a few of course who were definitely good and sometimes I pulled out a win. I’m starting to think I’m not really improving but rather 95% my opponents are getting worse.
Here’s the rest of the casuals vs. Omed, they just finished uploading:

Damn, cr.fp->m.sbk against his Tiger knee to open the second round of the first match. I’ve seen alot of Sagat’s do risky stuff like that, but usually I don’t get anything more than a sweep. Also, I’m liking jsu.fpx2 as an anticipatory A-2-A… seemed a pretty effective corner contain technique in the 2nd round of the 2nd match. One more thing, your zoning is really good; Think I’ve seen every useful ground normal from your Chun by the 2nd match ^^.
Shit Skatan you are one of the better Chun-Li players I have seen. I really enjoy your playstyle, it seemed like when you got any type of momentum you really overwhelmed your opponent with your offense - was fun to watch that. I also seen many things you did that I hope to add into my game as well.
Thanks for the comments. I’m going to another SBO qualifier tomorrow so I’m trying to pick apart my game and try to improve myself (in a whole day!). Some things I’ve noticed so far…
– Trying to anti-air in situations where I should just block
– Should block crossups better
– Dashing during footsies, end up eating a combo for it
– Too aggressive, eat a wake-up special/ultra
– Just block during block strings, trying to anticipate a throw and end up eating a normal into combo
That was the gameplan. I was still one big mistake away from losing the match, so no need to rush. Play the clock, and let Sagat get reckless in trying to chase me down.
This is pretty onesided Can we get some matches against Alioune or Louie? :karate:
Afaik, omed doesnt like this game (3s loverboy ), and you can tell, he is new at it. I didnt see a single focus. And sagats suppose to be a wall. That looked like jelly wall jumping all over lol
I could sense the fear & confusion in Sagat.:looney:

A vid of my Chun in the Championship mode finals.

From the Jab Strong Fierce art show. Footage of Mike Watson’s Chun in action. Match footage starts a little before halfway.
Nice vids, Azrael. Very good Chun Li!
I noticed a couple of opportunities after EX legs where you could have done Ultra but didn’t.
mikes chun is nice as hell, very reaction oriented. i liked the use of jabfakes for footsies to be able to constantly walk forward without taking much risk… he doesnt dash much… reminds me of kais chun.

Watts is very nice, that’s exactly what I expected and that’s what was shown. Against someone like that though, I don’t see why they didn’t spam focus on him, since he did just use 1 hitter pokes.
Imagine if Watts studied Chun up though…he’ll be a threat.
Thanks guys for the kind words, I’ve noticed some stuff from watching the vids that I need to work on like jumping less, and failing combos less. I’ll probably up some new videos sometime this week or early next week. Hopefully containing some nice anti-air action that I’ve been working on.
Some G2 matches I played today. Not my best, I fell for a lot of dumb things…I probably should’ve warmed up before videotaping these…

I really need to learn to stop jumping so much at him. If you notice, I press the throw a lot to tech even thought it costs me a lot of damage. This is pretty similar to how shotos spam dp’s during combos. I think all this is because i’ve been thrown too much in G2.

Two dash ultras FTW. This one likes to throw, and my crazy teching worked a lot.

Typical Ryu. Was owned by df. HK cross over kick (@end of each round)

Got owned by his overhead kick --> dp in the 2nd round. Messed up my super combo. 3rd round I intentionally stopped doing combos to bait a dp.
Other notes for myself -
i dont know mike but i really feel like his style goes perfect with chun, he used chun in cvs2 as well.
yeah if he came here and studied up he would certainly be a beast, but i think people like him like to figure out there own shit for the most part, besides a player of his quality has so many mindgames going on it probably wont take him long to figure her out… i mean i never saw him at the arcades, so i assume he’s playing at that high a level mostly from console and straight oldschool skills.
man… him and valles footsies are like watching art being painted (at a very fast pace)

That’s not a typical Ryu, at least the ones I play won’t react exactly the same to an identical situation when seeing them concurrently.
That Blanka deserved taunting after that random ultra ^^. You could really tell when he had slides on the brain too. He’d always do one full screen which couldn’t possibly hit you… before going for one that could. Bet he’s kicking himself for messing up the meaty ultra as well. Also, it seems that I was releasing focus too early vs slides as Nififf suggested in the S&M thread. So, ty Nififf.
in that Jab Strong Fierce video the Chun Ultra beating Gouki Ultra was pretty surprising. I thought it had some invincibility.
I never thought of using fierce kikoukens as an offensive tool, I’ve always stuck to LP for zoning. There’s something worth trying out.
watson is beast.
