Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

@bunnta

I’ve noticed you had some difficulty with Blanka’s electricity spam. An easy way to beat it out if he get’s too close is a crouching short kick. If he’s midsweep, crouching medium.

To add onto what Kona said, if you notice the Blanka player is using wake up electricity a lot one VERY easy way to beat this is to use C. Jab as he is getting up. It will beat normal and ex versions against a reversal electricity, be careful though because I think Ex Ball will beat the jabs if they decide to mix it up.

Last night I went on a run in Championship Mode. I went from 1000 GP to 2000 GP and got into the next ranking class. I managed to get most of my matches on video.

I took the video for myself, to try and observe what I’m doing right and wrong and improve my game. I do decently, but I really want to improve my game and hang with the big boys. But as long as I’m taking video, might as well post it here. Got in matches against a lot of different opponents, which I’m happy for.

Though I win a lot, I also make A LOT of mistakes, so feel free to find those and nag me for them. :razzy:

This is just the first vid, I’ll have to compile and upload the rest later.

Here’s one of the chun li players in the IC tourney they had tonight: commentated by Don.

Really digging that cross-over into meaty hazanshu against Ryu. I’ve been trying to come up with more mix-up options like that after knock-downs.

im going to steal “jump over the corpse just to have enough space, then HS”.

and F balrog c.jab

I do think you did do some mistakes az, but to me it’s more like bad reads (you can’t read a guy in one set imo) rather than unforced errors.

Also liked anticipatory s.hk in the corner vs jumpy ryu.

I will say you’re lucky that Balrog didn’t know about cr. jabs -> headbutt -> Ultra because he had it confirmed on-hit like twenty times. :stuck_out_tongue:

Which reminds me, I also liked the way you used s. strong to punish a blocked dash-punch. Will that always work or was he just knocked out of doing something else?

if az played 2 sets against them, they’d all get wrecked on set #2 imo.

Yeah, playing best 2/3 gives Chun the shaft against more versatile characters because of how much she has to rely on reading the other guy. I thought Championship matches were supposed to go more rounds–like, best 4/7? Maybe S-Kill talked about the CE patch and the nationals tournament in the same post and I got mixed up.

The rest of my championship run set.

Again, a lot of mistakes, I know, but I was partially burned out - I’d been playing at the arcade earlier and fought about 15 intense matches against a good Ryu player (he had 10,000 more BP than I). I won 13-2, and thought I’d had my SFIV fill for the day…but I couldn’t resist playing more.

Anyway, I’m in G2 now, and its a WHOLE different beast. The level of comp is pretty high so far. I’ll try to take more vids as I fight against peeps in the G2 block.

Nice job Azrael, you totally outclassed 90% of those guys.

That first Cammy was ridiculous though :looney:

jabs CAN stop EX ball, believe it or not.

I will peep your videos as I’ve been eager to see your play style and take notes.
We all go through that period using Chun where we win a lot – yet make various mistakes. Sometimes I just mentally beat myself up and as a result make foolish mistakes that I strive to learn from. I’ll comment about thing I enjoyed about your gameplay (and maybe even x-copy)

I love Hazan shu but it needs to be be done in moderation since characters like Ryu can easily punish with a DP upon pure reaction while she’s airborne. I’ve found it’s best to use when they’re in the midst of throwing a FB or you’re doing a blocksting combo.

yup its a safe bet for it, which was why i spammed jab in the end of the first match. even at long distance you can beat a blanka ball with a medium punch or fierce. BUT screw it takes quite the risk to even bother, i’ll try and jam stand jabs! yeah i always had issue with blanka lighting spammers. I just have that retarded habit of throwing cr. RH. after seeing az’s vid i should start adding sweeps in my block string instead of light legs that isn’t ex but sometimes i don’t intentionally want that legs to come out :’(. must quite spamming

Another set of videos, this time from the G2 block. These guys are much stronger…so I lose more often. :razzy:

It was nice playing you OneHandedTerror today. Was a pretty close match until that third round where I fell apart. Would love to get a session with you if you ever have the time. GG

Nice videos Azrael. I especially liked the Sagat one from the G2 videos, having him chase you for the last 15 seconds was priceless ^^.

Nice Sakura player too.

For those interested in watching some of Nemo’s Chun-Li he participated on the TRF tournament on the 24th of April. Link below vs Dictator.

Thanks for the video.

I’m amazed at how I was thinking what I wanted nemo to do in situations, and he did it. The pressure focus strings (I mentioned in the S & M thread) and crouch tech -> EX SBK if they jump it option, and back dashing from scissors (my favorite option) .

I did learn from this that hasan-shu is a really good option against EX PC. Everything else looks like the Chun forums is doing right.

He does need to pay attention to Bison’s ultra meter more though, he got caught with jump strongs way more than needed to be reminded and made the match harder on himself.

Nice videos Azrael.

Appart from my jelousy of your skill, I envy your connection and the variety of opponents you face. But thats mostly Japan related (maybe US aswell?). I face nothing but Ken/Ryu/Boxer these days.

A set of online-casuals me vs. Omed who’s also a Swedish player.

All of these 3 are Sagat vs. Chun I’ve got 14 Ryu vs. Chun uploading atm as well, will update when those are finished too. I recorded all of the casuals we played so the order they’re uploaded in is the same order they were played.
