Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

I’ve played some good Elena’s. She’s actually got some pretty fierce pokes if the other player is spacing her correctly. Best Elena player I’ve thusfar is V-Ryu Sensei, but he only uses her as as off-main. Everything she does is awkward, but real risky at the same time. She’s got gaps in his active hit box in peculiar places, so some stuff seems to go through you when you expect to be put into blockstun. She likes to play a lot of low high mix-up, too, but I find it easier to block than even low short mix-ups. I met a poison player one time that hit me with meaty low.short mix-up. Suprisingly effective. Dnno if there’s something sakonoko does with Elena which makes her beastly. I figure she’s low-mid tier, at best. And, Healing is over-rated. Just gives you two chances to lose the same round.

Damn that first Mochi and go yu gouki round is pretty epick.

Welp nuked. Must have been an unofficial account. I wanted to go over that Elena one again lol… will post/edit if I find an alternate channel.

Some (not all) of the Ooitajin vids mirrored here… hoping there’s more mirrors in the coming days.

Valmaster

Some account I chanced upon on FB

sick ending. I love seeing creative uses for headstomps, especially when you do it neutral into TC

Speaking of which, I saw Rexsin0n in a stream chat after a Chun-Li vs Akuma match acting as though his point was won because the Chun-Li player lost. I said nothing.

That demon for Val’s dropped legs-loop was pretty awesome. Beats mashing for Shoryukens’, that’s for sure. Then Val pays it back with an Ultra for a blocked sweep. Would’ve been so awesome if target-combo (corner)->ex.legs->jump into stomp had worked.

I always go in way too hard with her. I really need to sit down and watch some videos. I really can’t do anything besides walk forward hitting sweep/mp/hp/lights and WTF WALK BACK OMG while occasionally getting jumped on when I try to fireball. I did learn yesterday that DF LK can CH AA rose decently, at least what I think was her j.hp.

What do you do when rose just keeps spiral arrowing, either in neutral or the corner? I feel like my only recourse is EX legs, but I need meter for that and it never gives me the feeling like I came out ahead, only that they tricked me into using meter. And when she throws the pokes I want to focus in along with random ex spirals, oh boy…

It makes me want to go back to Juri for the matchup but I am so sick of that character.

If my opponent is going heavy on the soul spirals I tend to counter with walk up or wake up throw. Even the ex version has 13 frames of start up and no throw invincibility (only strike invincible). Other then that, all versions are negative on block allowing you to punish with whatever, and have a high hurt box allowing you to just neutral jump and come down on top of them with nj.hk into massive damage.

I don’t know why but outside of bodying grapplers, Rose has probably been my next best match up, I once took out a guy with over triple my PP on ranked who was a rose main, one of my highlights of ranked play. It was only 2-1, and I made back to back edge of death massive come backs in rounds 2 and 3, but I normally don’t even compete against people that far above me in pp ranking, so to take a match was pretty satisfying. I grabbed him out of quite a few soul spirals.

You can grab EX Soul Spirals if they’re too far.

You can check if a regular one is safe or not with a light attack, it’s relatively safe from experience. Then you can work on unsafe blocked drill punishes from there.

Hey, here’s a good Rose player that I just played. The best advice I would give against Rose though is simply, get good. I was going for throws early in the match because I wanted her to stop going for reversal Soul-Spiral in wake-up. Tried not using kikoken too much, because I don’t want to play her game and, otherwise, make sure your whiff punishment is on point and you don’t try and anti-air her with fierce punch.

You gotta lag test and change if it’s not the online if it happens a lot. I still play on the old CRT’s or on BenQ’s so it’s not a big deal for me.

Speaking of Guile, here’s my long session with a friend. He’s a shoto player who hopes to pick up Guile as a secondary. Forgot to bring my bluray and he didn’t have online for patching so we used v2012 for the time being.

Thank goodness for the that U1 juggle buff in USF4. No more having to think of positioning/proper juggle height off EX leg unless it’s poison. I lost a few rounds because Guile fell out early and was able to retaliate. :broken_heart:

Said set also led to this boo-boo.

Normally I always block low, and eat overheads like an idiot. So I tried blocking mostly high for once, and I tried to look for counters to Guile’s sweep (hint: well-timed foci and Ultra 1). Nnnnnooooot quite what happened.

No need to beat yourself up (too hard) on execution. Just keep practicing until you can do it, or stick to the simpler/easier stuff if it works. That also falls under “get good” or “get better” :3

My feeling is that, most Guiles only go for the overhead target-combo when, if combined with a meaty sonic-boom, it threatens lethal, or if you are already cornered, but mostly they just want you to dance to their tune by falling into a familiar rhythm. You definitely have a point about being able to back off and go fireball for fireball with him. Helps you build meter to put him on the back-foot with.

Do you feel like that match-up is easier in Ultra? I think it got easier. I used to have to really pay attention to my method when fighting high-level Guile players but now, I feel like there’s more room for error. I don’t feel like I have to bait out every single flash-kick, any longer, though it still helps, sure. Hasan.shu can real do some work in this match-up too, even if Guile’s fwd+fp bats her out of it. I try and go over sonic booms because the damage he lands if he reads me correctly isn’t as much of a gamble for me as it would be to allow Chun-Li to get on the inside and score a knock-down, for him.

I’ve had plenty of those blow-out rounds which make you feel semi-retarded too. Like, getting thrown on wake-up three times in a row. O, god, people who would do that to you are eve-ull.

U1 juggle, Chun’s hp buff, EX hazanshu armor break, and EX kikoken knockdown has made things easier for her, among other things. It still sort of borderlines along even for me, though.

My own matches vs Elena. Feeling like an idiot when I don’t reaction punish Healing

Forgot to share these dru vids from last month
