Forgot to metion but I was watching your vids… I will comment later on
Hey! No worries, man! I look forward to any insight you can give me! And thanks for doing me the honour of taking a look! I feel like I’m stronger now than I was last week, even. My footsies have been giving people nightmares. I almost feel bad for them, when they get so flustered that they just don’t know what to do.
I’ll get around to making some new videos, eventually, but I ran out of coughBlazgreencough and I get a lot less talkative. Feels kinda silly, to be honest, being in your room and talking at your telly to nobody in particular and; I have social anxiety, I get real self-conscious. Been working to fix that for a while now. Although, it’s fun, I have to admit. You can see why Gooteks and Mike Ross have so much fun doing it.
^ Veloc1raptor ain’t no joke, but Gouken has nothing for Chun-Li. He’s praying to hit a mad-damage corner combo the entire match; meanwhilst Chun-Li shuts his fireball game down, takes away his space, brutalizes him with normals and, on wake-up has enough options to completely mind-fuck him, if he ever has it in his mind to try and parry-attack you. She beats him in the air, with her air-throw and target-combo. On the ground, with high-low mix-up and by limiting his options. Sick damage is all he has. He is like the zoning version of Zangief.
Infiltration played it too tentative on knock-down and he made mistakes, otherwise, like throwing fire-balls far too close. You don’t want to risk him resetting distance. You want to stand just outside his sweep range and dismantle him. You can’t play respectfully against Gouken.
P.S. Glad the chick in the hot-pants wandered off eventually. I wouldn’t have been able to watch the match properly otherwise. ><
(Lol: Gouken, praying. I’m pretty funny, when you think about it.)
Against Yun, I remember seeing this match, actually. He does something which I like to do quite a lot, against the twins dive-kicks, which is to focus them like a parry attack. A quick absorb and release, which forces block-stun neutral reset on them. Other than that, the god-poke is essential for keeping him honest, on the ground; although I think the likes of Kazunoko would back off and build meter until he could ex. At max-range, standing fierce shuts down his jump-fishing and it does the same thing to Rufus, which is good to keep in mind. Closer than that and you are wise to simply block and plot your escape. Nothing much to say else, he seemed to have that match under control, anyway.
Yeah Infil was playing too scared. Had he rushed in (counter can be baited more reliably and is less of a pain to deal with than shoryuken) a bit, he would have won. Hell had he used Akuma or his other alts, I think he could have won even more convincingly. Veloc1 has lots of Chun experience from WNF after all.
Aye, the only time counter is anything more than a set-back is when he has Super stocked already, and, in that case, he can’t ex-counter; so you force a high/low guess on him. They buffed his ex-tastu though, right? You can’t just crouch anymore and have it whiff uselessly. I guess it’s still pants against jump-ins, though? Gouken is real weak against jump-ins, if you bait his ultra or his counter attack, by not always committing to an attack. His best option is ex-demon.flip escape, which sinks his metre just for the price of getting out of there.
Ex tatsu is a proper reversal now, it’s better than Chun’s, and he can FADC it on top.
Ah, guess he’s a solid monster now, then. What a pain in the arse. You start to get tired of having to rely on ex-sbk, with all the pitfalls of trying to get a charge motion to work consistently, and its propensity not to activate and to give you a back+mk, instead, when every other character has your tools and better, already.
Bah, we’ll live. They need to give all those other characters advantages because they aren’t as good as us. fist-pump
I think ex-sbk is only good as a reversal when the hit is already guaranteed, or you have a read on them for something. I default to reversal-hasan.shu, most of the time.
- Sorry for this moody post, I haven’t rightly woken up, yet.
Not too bad. Better the than the first few ones imo. Just learn how to not get trolled by Blanka. Oh and maximize your punishes too. Don’t settle for just throw after a focus crumple if you can help it. It’s what I tell my friend too actually. All that potential given up damage can bite you in the ass in the end. Some habits do die hard, though.

Good job staying mostly grounded and calm while all the shoto-spazz is going on.
Man, Elena’s hurtboxes.
It’s that you playing Sakura too? Not bad.
Blanka is one of my problem match-ups. Blanka, Boxer, M.Bison: feels like I’ve got to out-play them so hard. I’m not good at patiently laming it out. My defense is too bad for that. I prefer to take a pro-active defense, catch them trying to move forward, or jump; and with all three of these characters you can’t do that. That’s my Sakura, yep. I switch off to her every once in a while just to remind myself why I love Chun-Li’s movement speed so bad. Looking back at that video, I’m playing better now than I did then. Here’s a quick match I played earlier against Timothy-troll-hawk. I’m at 2000pp and just outside of top-100 Chun-Li; so I’m pretty pleased. Lets see if I can keep it up!
I’ve been leaning on forward throw quite a lot lately, because I like the forward->dash into ambigious target-combo cross-up. Seriously though, am I getting more damage out of that? You’re definitely right. Stop doing that.

Oh damn, your friend missed his Hosen-ka combo! I hate when that happens. So infuriating with pixie characters that have a weirdly long fall animation, too. Makes you spit teeth and think, I wouldn’t have this problem if i was playing Boxer. But then you remember, Boxer is ugly as sin.
Edit: How many times can Chun-Li whiff her ultra in one match? Count the st.hk’s!
He’s better with U2. No idea why he used U1 vs Yun here (it was v2012) plus this Yun doesn’t whiff much to warrant U1 as well
One of the top locals in Manila (finally) bringing out Chun to tournament play, again. JUL MPGL vids in this playlist:

I really need to get a hold of him and talk of things soon
I’m gonna link the viper match, because that first round he plays it like a boss. In the 2nd round, I started to worry a bit, because he started to throw an awful lot of kikokken and Viper can ex.seismo punish that so lazily that I wondered why it wasn’t happening. Chun’s fireball recovery is so bad. Then I had to eat my thoughts a little bit, because he baited out the seismo at the end with a sweet FADC->rush down timing attack.

He played it a lot more wary in the 2nd match, and I’m not sure if I’m keen on that. Maybe this Viper player was nervous, but you only need to give Viper one opening. I don’t see why she wouldn’t just back off, if you’re gonna play it wary, and build meter before you get your revenge meter stocked and can punish lk.burning-kicks.
Any idea how well he did in this tourney? I don’t have sound on my computer, so it’s a little hard for me to follow sometimes. Gonna check out his Hugo match and a few others. I need to figure how to deal with Hugo’s clothesline. (Jump back?) Looking for tips with that.
Both are my friends (the Viper moreso)… I think, since I moved to another city, the Viper may have forgotten how a Chun matchup plays like. It really should have been cake for him.
But you’re absolutely correct. Kiko overuse would be murdered by burn kicks and (EX) seismo.
He did not get the burn kick mixups or the fierce feint stuff running properly.
He won the last two tourneys actually… that’s why I said maybe the other guys aren’t used to Chun as part of his rotation of characters yet.
hello everyone my name is yokoh and ive been trying my hand at chun li and I don’t think im doing so well nor do I have any sparring buddies to get better with any tips and pointers would be great feel free to add me if you can help me out because I do want to get better with chuns.

I saw him do that old-school focus-crumple combo, against Hugo. Where you back dash, then jump into a head-stomp, hit him with the 2nd fierce of target combo to put him into a fresh juggle state and then follow up with more stomps. Much respect for that! I haven’t been able to get the timing down since vanilla. I always whiff that first headstomp and feel stupid for even going for it.
