Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

Yeah I was gonna say that I saw the two playing in the Ultra version of the game and Val did pretty well there.

Honestly, never saw Xian in person before. I only watch gameplay footage usually. Regardless, imagine if he had a hair clip! He’d win EVERY tournament!

No shame in that.
I was just really surprised, because I would have imagined that 99,9% here on SRK would recognize the EVO winner in SF4

Yup, I know Xian’s gen, but not his face lol. I only watched a bit of EVO 2013… If chun’s not involved, I’m pretty uninterested.

The full set of matches between Nuki vs Uryo from awhile back. Oh yeah Nuki said he’s going to Evo 2014. HYPE!!

I haven’t been online to play in a long time because of a project taking up most of my free time, but I’m almost done with that, so I’ll probably stream and upload ranked sessions more frequently after I’m finished (gotta start practicing for Evo).

I love your play, Darklight. You are super solid. Just one main comment on your meter usage… It seems you like to play that psychological game with super, to make people fear approaching you or using unsafe pokes, etc. But I felt many times like you could have either afforded to use a bar or just use your super. I say this because I feel if you are saving super until you can get a super kill, you could use a bar for ex legs, ex kiko, kiko fadc, or an fadc combo especially at times when you are both high on life. Since your zoning game is strong, you can build that meter back up fairly quickly in time to pressure them with super when they are close to death. Other times, I felt like you missed a lot of opportunities to use super – like Evil Ryu’s fireball is unsafe, or fierce combos, or confirmed jabs, counter hit st. mp, confirmed hk hasanshu, etc. Even if it wouldn’t kill, you are in a position to still chip them away with good zoning or a final mix-up… Just putting it out there, in case you find it helpful.

Yeah I get tunnel vision with that sometimes and have to remind myself not to be married to the meter all the time. I’m a bit more proactive with that strategy when using Ultra 2 instead of Ultra 1, but I have gotten feedback on that before and am still working on when it’s better to be more active and burn EX/FADC or hold onto super as the threat. I think she can use it pretty well either way. I also need to work on not being too impatient when seasoned players naturally kick into that evasive or somewhat unpredictable mode when their health gets below around the 15% health range (personal weakness of mine).

Sometimes I hold onto it not just for the threat of it, but to check for commitment on the other player’s part as well (i.e. “does this player know or care that I can potentially punish him for doing this move that he likes to do a lot?”) in case I can take advantage of that later in the set. Other times I’ll try to punish as soon as possible if I think it would be more pressure on them to be aware than unaware and would change the way they behave in a good way. It’s hard to gauge these days whether someone is just being stubborn or legitimately doesn’t know when they’re taking a big risk (or doesn’t think I know about the punish…).

Re missed super opportunities: I do miss them (bad input) or forget about them sometimes until a second later when it’s too late, but one I was trying to do in particular that I do to most shotos is LK super after blocking their cr. MK, which will either punish the cr. MK or pass through the fireball if they cancel into it. E. Ryu’s effective blockstring range with that is much better than the other shotos, but it’s still not 100% airtight and I was trying to show him that (again tunnel vision, but we’re all still friends there, so I like to show lesser known punishes if I know about them and think they don’t).

-There’s another Ryu/E. Ryu player who is probably one of the best players there and most likely would’ve won or at least gotten top 3 if he entered. I tend to be a lot quicker to land that super or burn meter on him simply because he doesn’t make a lot of mistakes and I can’t afford to wait around. He adapts way too quick. lol.

Ricky Ortiz played a little bit of Chun at FGTV the other day. Starts at around 02:13:45.

Congrats to Valmaster!! So proud to have a Chun win Grand Finals in a major. =) Lookin good!

Valmaster matches start at around 8:02:00 hr mark.

Valmaster is a beast, the rise of Valmaster is imminent.

That’s great, becuse with that victory he deflected any futur comments when he’s going to win more tournament saying he’s only good because chun is really good in ultra.

Valmaster is really smart and unfortunately it’s not something that you can x-copy easyly lol :stuck_out_tongue:

  • I notice Fuudo use lp kikoken a lot versus zangief + i am surprise he has time to block most of his jump attack though daigo made several time the good.
In fact he used only lp and hp kikoken.
I always though MP kikoken was the best choice in terms of frame. Did i miss something

Wondering if we can use kikoken trade setup on wake up. Using a kikoken like an assist. You time it well like that your opponent has time to hit you but get hit afterward by the kikoken.
I suppose the frame advantage on a trade like that could be very great for chun li and scare people to mash normals on wake up. Of course reversal dragon would beat and “reversal” throw
