Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

HD Camcorder, sir.

I just got tired of putting up footage that didn’t look very sharp, so I decided for 2012, I’d invest in better equipment.

I’ll probably end up using it for tournaments/trade-shows for interviews too.

Oh hey, somehow I remembered what I wanted to say as original responses. After a lot of re-writing…

This is exactly why I haven’t given up this game yet. At casuals, I’m all “oh, I won” but when I go back and watch it at home, I’m like, “My goodness, how did I manage to win doing all that stupid stuff?” Couple that with “why did I keep doing that?” when I look back, and realize how much more time and effort it’s going to take to make another jump in skill level. And that’s why I keep playing. Sure there have been much better games that weren’t recorded, but at the same time there are ones with even worse mistakes that didn’t make the cut.

Some people actually think it’s weird that I record too much. A few even think it’s weird that I record at all. It’s surprising how you have to explain that to non-net forum-goers.

As I’ve said, I would really like to play something else as intensively. But the time frames and the availability of the other games just don’t compare. Not only do I still enjoy and want to get way better at SF4, it’s one of the more widely played games, so I am here for the long haul.

Thanks again sir. I hope you can make it to the vs Sakura/vs Cody vids. :china:

@Dagon
For me U2 is better vs Sakura. You said it yourself, lol @ her fireball. They are kinda Dan-ish in range unless it’s EX. She will not be throwing them only to be foiled by U1. She has a hadoken, but she would rather be poking or harassing with tatsus unless absolutely necessary. I suppose I should be using smarter poke/HSU use against her fireball attempts from now on. I had way more success using U2 vs U1 in the Sakura fights.

I can’t wait for the U1 vs U2 tut vid that Az hinted, there’s definitely going to be a healthy debate with regards to both characters. Kinda surprised at those going for U2 vs Guile (booms are a hard punish but with spacing/dash U1 it’s possible) for example.

Well, now you know how I feel. :frowning: I did mention my response in the general discussion and FB thread already. I would love to, but SF4 still has its hold on me, I dont have solid SC5 comp, and even if I did want to take a break from SF4, I really need to buy UMvC3 and KOF 13 because I want to train in up in those first. To be perfectly honest most of the the SC players I’ve met through the years have been the casual dress-em-up CAS crowd, so I’ll have to look harder if there’s ever more serious comp.

4Neqs, it’s been quiet in the Fellowship/SCV FB sections too. :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay thanks, I’'ll just leave them up for a while.

Well then! Maybe it’s time to start posting pictures again, at the very least to see if it will help jumpstart things. Like so!

Sent you a pm regarding one of the vids.

Thanks 4neqs, that was a good long read. I’m going to keep all those in mind, but there’s still the problem with U2 Giefs. Just a day or two before I uploaded those matches, I fought another Gief who used U2 and it caught me while I was backdashing. EX SBK won’t be seeing a lot of uses if that’s the case then?

SCV is fun, but I don’t have nearly the amount of time to dedicate to Street Fighter as I’d like, so as sick as my Viola is, I dump all of my free time into Street Fighter.

EDIT: Also, the reason I’ve been quiet in Chun GD is because it doesn’t load page 209 for me…I blame SRK.

EDIT EDIT: Be sure to tune into the Winter Brawl stream and cheer me on if I make it far enough =)

Dagon: As long as you tried your best and had fun.

Here’s a non-Chun Li match (can’t get enough of this girl – I really should play her equally as much as I play Chun)

So here’s another SCV video - this time it’s got a new subtle introduction and video effect. This is all a testing stage with editing which, as I’ve said before, will carry over into the upcoming SFIV matches (and SF x Tekken) that I’ll be uploading very shortly as well. Props to anyone who can figure out what game the music is from.

If he has Ultra and he’s jumping above you, don’t do any air borne moves. This includes backdashing and EX Birds. Just keep him honest and continue to zone.

I do seem to recall being able to beat out his Ultra 2 with neutral j. hk split, if I’m in a jump/the air and higher than him, but I will have to test again. I know shotos can tatsu/EX tatsu in the air to beat U2.

Played a really good match against a Bison at Winter Brawl. (I played Chun, because that matchup is horrible for Hakan.) Sadly I went 0-2 overall in the tournament, but I feel as though I played this match really well. Min streamed it, but he hasn’t upped the archive yet. I also recorded it with my camera, but I have over 20GB of footage from the weekend to sift through, so it might not be up right away. I’ll post it here when I do.

Also, 4neqs and 武俠派, I haven’t forgotten about you guys! Just busy, busy, busy! I’ll comment on your videos ASAP! <3

Take your time with it Dagon, there’s no hurry. We want to see your match too.

Couple more at the nearest arcade. Gonna put AE and eventually v2012 on the laptop as soon as I remember to get the faulty CD drive checked. Lots of execution derp (and shoddy controls-- I really ought to tell the arcade management about that) more than anything. :\

Waiting on replies to my old stuff, guys!

vanilla? My only advice is to pick u2.

Well, there’s some AE/12 stuff in here too, but sometimes at the older malls I have no choice. I still use U1 against shotos and many other characters anyway.

Thanks, will get back later as I have work (1pm, GMT +8) :china:

Told ya I’d try to get one before the day was over =)

-Flip kick usage decreased significantly. Still seeing it more than I should. Moving on.
-You and your opponent both seemed pretty jump-happy. Both of these characters have amazing anti-air options. Punish his jumps, and stop jumping yourself. Keep that solid foundation. I picture Honda like a brick wall, but Chun is like an octopus; free-flowing, sort of squishy, but it’s pretty hard to get close without getting touched.
-If he’s jumping right on top of you, st.:mp:, st.:mk: and EX SBK (if you have the meter) are great anti-airs to use. The timing varies (as does all of Chun’s AAs), but it’s so cool to reset them with st.:mp:!
-Cody’s normals are decent, but not as good as Chun’s. He scores most of his damage from frame trap setups. You should endeavor to keep him in mid-range, where your pokes will outperform his, but when they don’t, he can’t convert into a big combo. There were a lot of instances where you backdashed to 3/4 or full screen just to throw fireballs. He has a :qcf: projectile. He’ll probably win in the fireball war. Like I said, keep it at mid range, and grind out those footsies.
-On the note of backdashing, it was really predictable. If your opponent had gotten wise to it he could have made you pay. More importantly, in a lot of instances, it led to him having you cornered. Cody is really powerful, especially against Chun, in the corner. However, this guy wasn’t doing many (I don’t think I even saw one) throws, so you can contentedly :db: all day.
-We talked about this, but Ultra 1 as a punish for tornadoes is too risky IMO. EX Legs, or a jab series seems like a better alternative. Again, we already discussed this, just a reminder.
-Again, we talked about this before, but cr.:hp: xx FADC? I still don’t get it
-You probably know this, but after EX Legs in the corner, you have to delay the Ultra 1 just a touch. Worth practicing.
-On the same token, I think if you hit EX legs at about starting position (I.E., where Cody is relative to the knife at the start of the match), you can go into Ultra 1 with full animation. It has way more range than you’d think.
-If you do fight yourself scoring a knockdown, throw your fireball and do legs for meter. It’s a small bit, but it’s better than just standing there.
-Speaking of meter, a random EX Kikoken is almost universally always the wrong decision. EX Legs being 4 frames makes it a great punish for a whole bunch of stuff. EX FB is way too easy to see coming and jump.

On a final note (and this is unrelated), someone mentioned punishing green hand. All punishable on block with Ultra 1, but that’s not the interesting part; they are all punishable on hit! EX legs, jabs, Hazashu, even Super (though I think this is technically impossible, unless you happened to get hit while doing the :f: part of :b::f::b::f: or something.) I didn’t know, so I figure someone else probably doesn’t.

Two in one day!? Whaaaa!?

This one’s kind of a cop out. I don’t know a whole lot about the Viper matchup, and I’ve always had trouble myself. However, I can post a few of my own matches vs Replay’d Gridman so you can see how a top-level Viper player plays against Chun. He pulled in 5th place at NEC and Winter Brawl, so you can rest easily knowing that he’s legit =P

Also, a piece of advice that crossed my mind; perhaps people would be more willing to watch & comment on your videos if you only posted one at a time? It might be that that’s easier to swallow, y’know? Just a thought, I have no idea if it’s true.

I feel that one game isn’t going to make for a very good assessment. I’d rather in sets of two or three. They are kinda spread out by days I think. But that’s the thing, no-one is replying and I’m doing all the posting, so even if it’s spread out it’s going to come off as spam. :\

Botched slide piano method of legs. It’s the worst thing that happens to me. :shake: Filing under “execution derp”…
