Again I have a conversation going with you and did in my last message ask for what vids you wanted me to look at, the none reply from you led me to assume you didn’t want any advice from me specifically…
I’m just gonna throw this out there, if ANYONE wants C&C’s from me (yep I know I ain’t Skatan, Meeks or whoever you like/respect) then PM me and attach the vids with a quick message. I do honestly try to give as good and honest C&C and advice as I can and try to demonstrate and explain that advice, also in a PM the conversation can be more in depth and go back and forth…
In other news I’ll be uploading a few games from recent sets this week I’ll post em here, I normally only post here for advice and not very often but I fancy sticking something up here for advice/for people to get tips from/Cos they demonstrate certain things/So I can be put on blast lol etc…
If people are looking for something specifically either from this forum or someone on it then be pro-active and bring it to everyone’s/the individuals attention
If it’s about the private messages, then I apologize. I merely forgot about it. I was under the assumption that people would just visit the thread and leave input if I posted a lot of videos out in the public.
It’s not the case at all. I owe a lot to you for making the Zangief/T Hawk/Rufus matches easier for me, so I am very grateful. :lovin: But yes I was hoping for more people to comment, and I am saddened that not many people are visiting much less commenting on here anymore.
I do most of my browsing while at work. I can thirty seconds to post a quick response, but I can’t take five minutes to watch a whole video. I try to remember to watch them when I get home and give what input I can (though I am a newb), but I often forget. I’ll try to be more diligent about voicing stuff.
I haven’t been on SRK much lately (or at all…) but I want to hang around more so I’ll try to comment on vids as I see them regardless of who the player is.
I don’t usually comment because well, I assume some people may not want critique. I am not partial to only responding to “well-known” players. Truth be told, my presence (much like Azrael) has been pretty sparse. I will go back and comment on your material as well as Ray’s!
(You can also send me PMs anytime new stuff hits your respective channels)
LOVE the fact that you didn’t buckle under pressure. Many experienced players who excel at aggressively limiting your options with constant blockstrings are simply testing your limits in the hopes that you’ll slip in an attempt to get a reversal. The truth is - they’re baiting you into a potential counter-hit situation that often leads to even MORE damage than if you would have blocked. Should you manage to block their string of attacks, the worse thing that can happen to you is getting tossed.
0:41 - Nice use of EX Legs, followed by confident positioning and zoning… leading to the stun.
1:03 (followed by 1:14, and 1:22) - This is a combo that I still drop on a few occasions. Solution? Hit the lab and spend a good hour or more getting down the muscle memory. Reps of 10 are great, but if you want to be a perfectionist, set your goal higher (like 30 or more). It’s best to get a tempo for these sort of things because then once you have the rhythm, it’s something that you’ll consistently carry with just about any character. Chun doesn’t have a ton of combos, but the few that are at her disposal need to be executed with total precision because that opportunity may not come up again.
1:28 - Careful doing EX Legs. I know why you felt the need to do it, but this was a huge risk given the opponent’s spacing (which was JUST outside of Chun’s range). When you’re in the corner, stay calm and just carefully watch for a potential opportunity.
Depending on your personal attack style, you can choose to gradually wear your opponent down or go in with hardcore offense. Regardless of your approach, prioritize your attacks based on which moves do the most damage, while minimizing Chun’s potential risk of being punished. You always want to remain outside your opponent’s poke ranges, but still being close enough to punish any whiff attempts. Throws are great (yeah Iron, I see you smiling) cuz they’re a great way to throw off their momentum, leading them to guess what your next approach is (i.e. instant stomps, follow-up throw, etc.)
Try focusing on doing more lk strings into EX Legs and avoid doing the obvious (see: df+RH). Just about EVERY Chun player uses this move to the point that it’s no longer unpredictable. If you knock your opponent down, take a mental note how they respond to wakeup situations. Do they instantly respond with an attack? Do they backdash? What makes em tick. Once you’ve gathered data on them, then you know how to plan your options in advance (or more importantly, how to limit their tools). Auto-pilot gameplay is easy to do if the person is totally clueless and lacking a solid understanding of the matchup - not to mention it’s doing little for your personal development.
2:03 - The best options here would have been cr. mp, st. fp, or low RH – it seems like your timing was a bit late (thus the trade). If you’re not quite confident in going for the AA attack, there’s no shame in blocking.
2:07 - Another trade, here I would have personally used st. mk (which I see VERY few aspiring Chun players use). It’s a VERY good poke and keeps players honest from liberally jumping in.
2:15 - Careful using low RH like that. If you want to move forward (safely), either casually walk to the opponent or use df+FP.
Overall, I can definitely seem some big improvements with your overall confidence level with Chun and general attack options. With some additional time in the lab, your spacing/execution will improve greatly, thus allowing you to maximize her damage and make opponents think twice at jumping in on you.
I’ll comment on the rest later tonight or tomorrow.
So…haven’t really been around much, but I was browsing the SRK front page and saw a new combo challenge. Anyone have any intentions of submitting anything?
The challenge is to do a combo that uses all (or as many as you possibly can) of your characters special moves. I’m a sucker for challenges so I submitted a couple solutions for Chun. Thought I would share and see what you guys think. I know none of it is really useful for match play, and this thread is to analyze and critique each other, but I didn’t want to make a new thread.
The brain dead solution (I didn’t submit this one):

The no EX moves solution:

The “Now with stomps!” version:

Soon as I get some xblive again and 2012 comes out, I’ll have a stronger presence in here again.
Sekirei, that does in fact work and would be a better option if I were going for damage and screen positioning (leaving them in the corner instead of knocking them out), but I needed the SBK to complete the challenge.
vs a friend’s Oni from a month or two ago. Wasn’t all that aware of the slash/frame trap/FADC shenanigans back then. Wasn’t too confident in my Dash Ultra either, so U2. But I’d definitely go for U1 again…
Good matches against Oni there Only thing I felt was you jumped on him way too much and sometimes it costed you the round for that. I liked how you cancel close standing medium punch into hazanshu
As for your Oni friend, I felt he focused way too much when 2x Fierce in air would’ve beaten it out.
I like canceling cl. st. MP with Lighting Legs - even non ex legs is good. especially on block as It makes a nice push back.
If I remember to do it during a match I’ll substitue this move in place of Cr. LP to Cl St. HK
Stop jumping. You ate a lot of damage either off getting anti-aired, FA’d, or just having your mis-timed jump in punished as you landed. You should only jump forward at your opponent if it’s a safe jump, or you’re reacting to a fireball/big poke. This one is hard, because sometimes you get to a point in the match where that jump just feels so right…but it’s not. Sometimes you even see pro players do the naked jump in…and they get punished for it.
If your opponent is FA’ing that much, it’s time to throw to bejeesus out of him. Aside from the easy damage, you get an untechable knockdown which can score you more damage. And it sends a message - stop doing FA so damn much. Once your opponent gets scared of doing FA, you can throw sweep as a poke, and random Hasan Shu’s. Then they may think “Oh, well, I’ll do FA again” and then you throw them again.
If they’re doing FA against your jump in, you can either land and throw, do headstomp, or just ultra him in the face. If you do headstomp and they let the FA fly, Chun sails over it and behind, giving you an opportunity to punish. If they try to backdash, Chun can hit them with her regular jump-in attacks. It can be hard to try and react to it as you see it, but if your opponent is doing it that much you can anticipate it and bait it out. If I knew my opponent liked to FA a jump in I would break my first suggestion above and try to jump in and bait it out so I could punish it.
Also, there were a few points where the match seemed to get reset, and maybe it’s just me, but I could feel you thinking “okay, what to do now…I’ll throw Kikoken!” Kikoken is a nice zoning tool, but as you know Chun requires 3/4ths screen to make it safe. So you back up and do it, but now you lose your chance to use Chun’s excellent normals and try to press an advantage. It makes Chun into a ghetto Guile, except she’s not nearly as good at it and she really doesn’t want to get backed into a corner. Don’t think of Chun as a projectile character…because she’s not, really.
One thing I would recommend for future matches - try staying grounded, and see if you can push your opponent into a corner. Make that your goal in the start of the match, to hold your ground and try to force them backwards.
I’m gonna post a few games from a set tomorrow and C&C it myself, say why I did what I did and point out my mistakes, I won the set 10-7 so I’ve just chosen a game I do well in a game I make a lot of silly bad decisions in and a random game. If people want to offer me advice that’s cool I’m just kinda putting it up to explain good and bad things for people and myself. That also why I’ve picked a really poor game from me and a random one I don’t deserve to win but do lol…
Its too late to do it now but before I do, do people think its worthwhile me doing it? Like I said the idea is to help newer Chuns out with my thoughts on my own fight and the gameplan I had for the things I did… So watcha think?
