Jae, I am a bit disappointed that you allowed the comments from one poster get to you.
I am sure there are a substantial number of people from the Chinatown Fair/Next Level circle who would speak highly of your overall performance and understanding of the game. You should never feel compelled to respond in the manner you have to prove you have the ability to win. Demonstrate your solidarity and confidence by ignoring individuals who aren’t here to provide constructive criticism and build you up as a player.
it never bothered me just was having fun but yeah i was being an ass so i took it down. I dont care what anyone thinks of my skill becuase i no longer care about this game anymore (I’ve been playing a lot of guilty gear and vampire lately). I just like to show videos of my own gameplay and others on the ec just to give something for people in the community to watch. never did it for my benefit i see people giving me pointers as a plus. anyway i’ll be at fightclub on thursday so i’ll have some more stuff to show.
Ok, so maybe I was a bit blunt, but I’m not apologizing, that video does not belong in this thread. A video of someone getting blown up by a top player (I don’t care who it is) where the other person does almost nothing but try to block everything is useless to anyone. I mean props for uploading videos and I’m not downplaying your skill, we all get blown up from time to time, but what’s the point to posting it? if you’re looking for constructive criticism on that video, all I can say is do something, stop mashing, and guess right more, which is all scrub advice that I’m sure you don’t need. You’re not giving us much to work with. It would be better suited to the Yun video thread.
ok. Switching gears here, I’d like for some input as to how I went wrong here. The things I saw was that I didnt block Bison’s cross up Psycho Crusher and that killed me also…I relied on throws while i was in close a bit too much instead of trying to go for the HP into super or reset. It all seems to go wrong after the second round

Good shit overall. More low blocking at mid-range to punish the slide like you did @ 2:49. Fifth round @ 3:36 you went for another meaty fireball and dashed forward again while Bison had meter, he could’ve potentially EX scissored again, watch out for that. Also what you said.

your right about everything you said but this right here is why i dont play anymore. blocking bad guessing good.
Wow that game was played at like a hundred miles an hour, firstly I didn’t really rate the Bison, he had no footsies (Bison has great footsies) he jumped way too much as did you maybe? And he had literally no scissor pressure game so yeah you should have taken the game easier than you did. Anyway moving on, I’d say you played the game without a gameplan by the looks of it, I may be wrong and feel free to correct me but you didn’t seem to be looking to condition him or exploit his poor footsies game.
At the right range Chun’s normals can shut down a lot of Bisons ground game so that is one area I’d look to improve in this match up (st.MP and cr.MP are godsends against Bison), learn your spacing and play it more defensively (this match should be a bit of a lame fight from both players if they are playing it correctly). You neutral jumped RH a lot kinda randomly, I know you were both trying to cover yourself from PC’s or EX PC’s and to try and keep him out of the air as Chun does struggle to AA Bison effectively if he is using the right tools and spacing on his attacks. He never really punished this a lot but Bison can with a lot of different things (jump after you and MP in the air will beat your RH clean, well timed scissors, even just st.RH) so just be mindful of the other characters options.
I feel you dash too much (I feel I dash too much) and you don’t need to as Chun can cover ground well enough without it, dashing a lot puts in a position to eat damage if Bison has charge or dashes forward himself (like focus dash through a kikoken or even in general) and go straight into cr.LK, cr.LK, scissors (again this Bison didn’t appear to know to use scissors and scissor pressure at all).
You got hit by several cross up or fake cross up PC’s on your wake up when you had meter, you know wake EX SBK beats this clean and the ones he failed to land as well could have been punished with his. If you had done this a few times it would have deterred him from going for them as often
Also you got hit by Devils Reserve a few times, just cr.MP or cr.Mk kick it to punish instead of taking the fierce punch? trade, also this works if Bisons are building meter at the other side of the screen (which he didn’t really do) you can dash twice then cr.MP it for a bit of damage. Also from knockdowns Bison is easy to safe jump so you shouldn’t be getting hit when jumping in on his wake up.
Overall again decent play but I really feel neither of you really played the match up exactly correctly and were both playing fairly recklessly (Given how good Bison can keep Chun out with a life lead you really need to be careful not to hand one to him, again luckily this Bison fails to know this). You did some nice things in general including an FADC into stomps which is flashy but at that point in the fight maybe getting rid of all your meter for it isn’t that clever? Meter is important to have for Chun so try to always go into a new round with at least 1 bar (that’s just my opinion). Also confirm your hits (I’m bad at this) you landed cr.jabs then went into cr.RH several times when you could have scored damage and same for just mashing EX legs from HSU, confirm it with a cr.short…
Anyway hope I don’t sound harsh lol as I struggle like hell in this match up (although I think tbh that Bison looks like he should be pretty free to Chun, not saying he’s a bad Bison per say but he clearly just plays all his match ups in the same manner) mainly cos I can’t deal with Bisons corner pressure well, but that’s me. Other than that you know what you did right and wrong I imagine and as its a C&C I’m not going to go over where you played well and did the right things and zoned ok etc… But you did…
Thanks alot man, you gave me alot of useful information. I had no clue I could ex SBK that PC cross up. Ill definitely use that one. also, the tip about dash into cr. MP sounds good too.
damn that bipson really need to learn a lot of important things…

I hate this game online.
Otherwise I’d have matches to show you guys.
Could someone explain that aa cr.mk against ken in the second vid at 1:39? Looks like it works similar to cr.mp against certain jump-ins (Ryu/Sagat j.hk, probably others).
I’d like to get some analysis on that as well. I paused the video several times to see what exactly went down. It looks like ken was not 100% in hitbox range for his jumping RK, but the cr. MK juggled him off the ground…(he was still in the air). That happens to me with the shotos all the time they catch me before I hit the ground with a cr. mk and there is nothing you can do…
^ In fighting games if you empty jump you get to cancel the recovery of landing frames with block it’s called trip guard. If you do a move in the air you lose the ability to use trip gaurd. Since Chun’s hitbox is lowered when she does moves like cr.mp & cr.mk it allows her to punish ken’s j.hk or whatever that is. She just cancelled cr.mk into ex.ll the same way you would if your oppenent wasn’t able to block al a whiff punish.
Good information to know…I have only been here a few days and I feel like I am learning so much. I have been playing sf for years but never got too heavy into studying terminology or the stuff like frame data etc. This stuff seems to be the difference between top tier and casual. Good stuff man. Great knowledge
NON-SSF4 related video but-----
Just look how wicked Ibuki and Chun can be together in SF X T @ the 40 sec mark-- WOOO!

Chun li vs honda
Ok all of this stuff I’m about to say is how I play against Honda so you don’t have to do all of this
In this match of it 6-4 some say 7-3. Either way it’s still bad for Honda I will try to go over everything I know
Now at the first beginning of the match both player have no meter. For me the best thing to do is to go and rush down Honda until he gets one bar. After that back off and play Chun vs Honda. Now before the match even starts the best Ultra is one. One it punish all Head butts (HB) and command throws.
When the match says start the best thing for Chun to do is to take a step or two back. Why? Because it allow you to see everything that the Honda player does whether that is jump, Butt stomp (BS) or walk back.
If he jumps…
The best thing to do is to Anti-Air him. With s.mk, s.rh, s.fp, df.lk, and sweep. In my option the one you are going to be using the most is s.mk it beats all off Honda jump in ( learn ranges of AA) also it us best to mix your AA up so the Honda player has to guess on what you are trying to do.
If he BS…
You can either back dash and sweep or FA and f.throw. You do not want to do c.jab combo because you always want Honda on the ground or far away. After sweep you can a 50/50 on wake up. After f.throw you get a safe jump. Dash uf.lk
If he walks back…
Just throw a FB. Not much Honda can do from walking back
Now that the match has start what do I do now?
Far Range
Chun Li
In this range is where you shine the. You are free to do whatever you life. Mainly should be throwing FB and punish him for trying to get around them.
Honda
I’m this range Honda really can’t do anything to her. A lot of Honda players like to command grab to build meter. IMO I really don’t care because they are going to use to to ex.HB threw your strings. Or hundred hands FADC (HH) As long as they are not close to super then you are ok
Mid Range
Chun Li
In this range not to much as change. You just have to watch where you throw FB. But now you get to use you pokes. Your main pokes in this range should be s.rh because he hits far and hits them for walking forward and stops them from jumping. S.mp is use to just keep space in-between you and Honda. If you cam do anything else use this poke. Sweep when they are not blocking low. It’s very fast and they hit box is insane.
Honda
In this range you have to watch out for s.mk or s.rh the one that hits low. But this move really does get Honda anything expect damage. You don’t get knock down and the position s tue same. You can also punish this on hit and block
Close Range
Chun Li
Close range is only going to be Chun with her back to the wall. This is where Honda is dangerous. This is where you don’t want to be. Why? Because Honda can control how you move. C.HH is you worst enemy because this allows for Honda to get a mind mix up. ( let me explain a mind mix up is on where no one is a the advantage but due to the bad spacing you are in you don’t want to move so you justlet them do what they want) after two HH is the time to do something. They like to so c.HH then ex HB , command throw , or jump. It’s all up to you on how you want to get out. Me personally I like to get the to block a jab and right after jump over then you out of tue corner and it starts all back over
Tips and tricks
After a lighting legs combo you can uf then hk. The rh will not hit so now you get three things to do. Either go low and lighting legs again , throw or hanzushu. Note all of these can be beat out by ex HB but don’t for get about mind mix ups.
To get a throw or knockdown
( this part is in my vid)
You can do…
C.jab hanzushu
C.jab walk up a little c.jab grab
C.jab c.jab throw
C.jab c.jab walk back sweep
C.jab c.mk m.lighting legs it’s safe on block of done right
Noe all of this info should allow you to beat Honda players all the time. I hope this has help.
Thank you very much.
What an amazing Chun.
