Right then… Firstly I’d like to say you a have really nice Chun I like it a fair bit… TBH I think you played the matches well and are probably a better player than me, so I’ll only offer a few things you seemed to do across all the matches that I think aren’t always the best things to do…
mp kikoken off st.mp, you know the hp kikoken travels slightly faster, does better chip damage (by like 2 points but hey it all adds up), moves Chuns hitbox back slightly so you can’t get trades with sweeps and has the same recovery as her mp kikoken. So imo there really is no advantage to using the mp kikoken over the hp one off the end of the poke.
On a similar note you use the kikoken off the end a lot, I would use more variation another st.mp, st.hp, st.rh, cr.rh and mix them up a bit more as it became fairly obvious that you were always going to stick kikoken on the end.
Random Ultras!!! You did Ultras that couldn’t hit, like after a st.hp combo… Obviously you know it doesn’t link and it was either a desperation thing or you were hoping to catch the E.Ryu pressing buttons. Either way it was a tad risky and pretty silly. If you wanted to get the damage you should have hit confirmed into EX Legs for the Ultra rather than the st.hp combo…
Likewise against Cardells Chun (good fight but Cardell jumped too much) you tried it after HSU (apparently to catch backdash) even if it had it it would have been a waste as the Ultra doesn’t pin opponents to the floor and Chun is airborne during much of her backdash so she would have fallen out after only a few hits and you’d have got like 70 damage off it or something.
FADC kikokens with no advantage, you used this a lot when you had no advantage to gain from it, in fact against Cardell I noted you do it several times and everytime you got punished for it. I guess at least once it was to try and get out of the corner (but that’s because you walked backward against his Chun to much, you walked yourself to the corner way to easily instead of trying to stand your ground) but even so if it didn’t work first time why try it again. Also the amount of tines you did it cost you having Super stocked which would have taken away a lot of his options and ultimately that would have made it easier to hold your ground and get out of the corner…
Maybe confirm into EX legs more in general its better damage and get a knockdown (setting up some offensive pressure for you) than the BnB you used most of the time, its a better use of meter than FADC from kikoken
There was another point I picked out from the videos but I’ve forgotten what it was so sorry, also you zoning and AA game is really good that aspect of your Chun is pretty flawless but you used the same AA option a lot. Other player may have adapted to this (cr.mp) and jumped in with a button that beats it. So maybe try and use variety on AA’s more so your opponent is kept guessing more. Like I said though your AA play was first class so this is a really minor point…
Well I’m done hope it helps, like I said you have a good Chun so I don’t know if these points are useful to you and I imagine you know most of these points its just I thought it was worth mentioning…
ok thanks. the reason why i only use m.fb because it goes further than f.fb and a lot ppl i s.rh and c.rh are really not that good. i get bet out. Example if u were to do this on Ken his c.mk will beat both options i think but i sure it will go under s.rh.
FADC fb i just started using that. I got it from Cardell. We play each other everyday so he like knows what i am trying to do. But its good and even if i did have super i not going to make a difference because he just wont sweep and anymore.
thanks again
that was a good match when i look back it looks like once that jump in os got beat out by birdkick i got.Frustrated and just started jumping in ._. and we have to stop playing so many casuals =P i hate conditioning myself to fight a person and not the matchup.
Yeah mp kikoken goes further but off the end of the st.mp that doesn’t really matter, I just use it cos its faster and better chip… General zoning obviously st.mp is the best option
LOL yeah do get caught with sweeps from shoto’s but its about mixing up your options, it was more that I was just pointing out that you had a very set pattern. You’re unlikely to get swept unless you become predictable.
The rest of the stuff I guess is subject to personal taste I do FADC from stuff quite a lot but I do feel its still generally a waste of meter, and if you’d taken even one of his options away that still one less move he can do…
Anyway like I said you have a good Chun so there wasn’t loads wrong to pick at (in fact you both do and the mirror was a good fight), its just you asked for feedback and so I was just pointing out areas that you had either obvious pattern with no or little variation to keep people on theirs toes or things I think you might have done differently if you’d thought about what you were doing at the time, 3 FADC’s is super or a shitload of EX Legs damage off hit confirms and the fact you got punished for all 3 I just thought it was worth pointing out as something that was clearly wrong to do.
Ah well I hope you at least think about the damage you took from em and the meter it cost you cos if you do keep doing it and keep getting punished for it then advice is kinda pointless… Regardless man I like both your Chun’s real solid play and a decent watch
Not a lot of Chun vids out there, but here’s a matchup with some good fundamentals. Umm… except for when Daigo switches to Yun, then it’s just…
Daigo (Ryu/Yun) vs Filipino Champ (Dhalsim)
Just thought it was an interesting match to watch. One thing I really liked seeing Ryu do was walk forward into Dhalsim’s fireball to block it. Dhalsim’s recovery on his fireball is pretty bad, so he only really gets the frame advantage to do fireball traps if you try to run away from them or jump over them. Translating this into Chun, she walks much faster and can just walk up and eat 'em up with focus for Ultra I.
Another thing I liked on 'Sim’s side was how he doesn’t spam Far LK when he is under pressure. Doing predictable poke strings like that is eventually going to get you hit by a psychic sweep which 'Sim definitely doesn’t want. I like how he deals with low frame advantage and slowish pokes by whiffing his back normals to create enough space between his pokes so that he can’t be easily counter-poked but instead would hit someone trying to counter-poke him in their recovery.
Fei Long training (as he is my friend’s secondary), loooooots of choking.

I really should be more careful and learn to maintain life leads.
If I had a dollar for every time that fire kick killed me at the last possible second… :annoy: I initially forgot that U1 doesn’t juggle on him in full after EX legs too.
Also working on a playlist of my misadventures so far http://www.youtube.com/playlist?p=PLB81E68AC60F4711C
At the very least, I have gone from this (me after a long break and having no tourney experience or regular online/offline play) to this.
AE Matches on PSN
These first two fights with Cody and Sakura were from the first couple days of AE’s release. I know that everyone says Chun is pretty much the same as she was in Super but I can’t help but think I was a lot better at Super than AE. At anyrate for those who have followed and or fought me before will hopefully notice me implementing more of Chun’s non-ex legs bnbs and that may actually be part of my problem of feeling not as good but oh well onto the matches:
Cody: Ranked match

Sakura: Endless battle where I was trying to find Makoto players instead I got a Sakura, lol!

This one is just the second round of a fight I had today. After taking pretty much 8 days off aside from the 20 or so mintues I played a few days ago I’m stupid rusty feeling but around this fight it started coming back around. I really want to submit this to the “Come Back” videos on here because E. Ryu had a major life lead. I’d like to dub this one “Never give up if you have Super stocked!” haha.
E.Ryu:

All in all, I wanted to get my Chun up to ‘B’ rank like she was in Super but I just plain suck at ranked matches. My winning % is actually up from Super but I’m just too paranoid of random dumb players mashing out their inputs and beating me, thus I think too damn much or end up doing something stupid myself. Not like I’ll be on top of the Chun leaderboards anyway so I’ll just play for fun in endless battles.
I hope to see several of you talking about 3rd Strike soon though, I’m only 10 + years behind everyone else in the world but I know I’m ready to play it! At least they have the challenges that will hopefully get me used to the parry mechanics and such.
Nice. Surprised that Ryu didn’t run and protect that life lead for a little (as what Akuma’s I’ve fought sometimes do). I knew he had an hp handicap, but I didn’t know it was Seth-bad.
If you’re going to stick to Chun in 3s, it should be easy.
Motion based Chun-Li + even more ridiculous normals than in SF4 + parries, lol
It’s not Seth-bad, it’s Akuma-bad. Still bad, but nothing is quite on Seth’s level in terms of shitty health, lol.
EDIT:
By the way, I am going to start posting videos again once SSF4 AE comes out for PC. That way I can just use Fraps rather than needing to worry about some expensive $200+ hardware to record in HD.
Fights from Yesterdays Texas Bar Fights 4. Grand Finals of me playing Chun and Rose. Please dont laugh at me for not punishing akumas sweep on block. Not use to having to play the match up with Chun. I usually counter with rose.lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGhvHuzUNeA&feature=channel_video_title
Missed a couple of combos because of nerves. Im not usually nervous.lol
Yayyy!!! I’m happy for you, Nash. That was very tense at the end… I was clenching everything haha
I dont really post much but some really good mix up stuff I do…as i struggle to figure ways to keep ppl guessing with Chun li when she gets a knock down-
1. Crouching really fast like 3x times then hitting sweep or hasanshu
***** my reasoning for this is that most tend to block low because alot of players like to attack feet when they feel like the player they knocked down wont random DP, or any kinda good wakeup move (which Chun lacks without meter BTW sad face) so with this tactic i feel it works around 50-60% of the time. alot of it is guessing and if they random wake up something u can still block and then punish, and if they block ur hasanshu or sweep ur still good and u kinda tone down their aggression.
2. ***Foward+ Foward kick(mk) within safe range into throw or cr. short x2-3 into ex legs or option select backdash sweep, or hasanshu ***
***** So you get a knock down then walk forward and hit forward kick for her forward step kick move just in front which can lead to =
3. df+short after knock down
4. cr. fierce into hasanshu…sometimes twice
5. Jump-in fierce x1 to whiff (of course safe jump or if you feeling ballsy go for it)
6. Whiff throws…no more than 2x a round
7. Empty Jumps into anything above**
Alot of this stuff I do it works and it helps keep Chun li players from being easy to read, keeps the opponents guessing. Again alot of it is to be used with caution and when you feel safe about it…its definitely not autopilot technology like some characters (Yun/Yang) where they just do what the fuck they want with little worry. Chun li is never to be played on autopilot…honestly dont think she can be, alot of other characters can but as you all know Chun li has to work for hers…she is a low class hooker in SF4 and not the High Class hooker she was in 3rd strike where she got away with murder, whenver and however she wanted…I mained Oro coz of it…and surprisingly i see similarities in Oros keep away like i do with Chun in SF4 thats prolly why she is my main…actually its not been rocking her since HF when she got a fireball >_<. I wish she have tensho kyaku outside her stupid target combo or her fireball wasnt a charge…i mean her kikosho isnt so why cant the kikoken be easy…it’d be alot easier to zone mid screen like shotos. Anyway later. I’ll try to post a vid of me owning gouken with those tactics mention in block 2 and 7.
UPDATED
All blocks except for the jump-in stuff is in here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5BeQh7Z5eE it cuts off right as i land cr.mk but miss the EX legs which he command grabbed me so I lost LOL…was only playing to capture what I mention above tho…no biggie
the rest is in both of these like the cr.fp into hasanshu and jump fierce to over head
Stuff above in fei long match he gets flame kick happy coz of previous round so i baited alot since he was expecting some of the mix up again mind games also the very close whiffed throw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3R-sUvdd8I
Ironreaver
PS Bahn is godlike i remember playing him a long while back and his zoning was so good
also launchpad has a good option select tutorial too…pretty good stuff in there
PSS…agains the twins…play Lame and dumb…i say dumb because yun players forget what it means to block, they so caugh up in trying to get genin gasms and dive kick shit they forget to block dumb shit so…play lame and dumb…to me yang isnt a big problem and you can be a bit more aggressive against him…but if that aint working just be a Lame Dumbass and you’ll win…my win% is like 85 for them
alot of you are experience enough to know that against Gief or grappler character to alter the above or just not do them since they involve being close and thats just easy SPD stuff for those guys. >_<
going thru matches and grabbing quick clips of some of the aboved mention stuff in play. Well compile and post soon as I can.
LOL you so made that ryu & akuma $Free.99 you had 'em sweating I can tell
Good stuff, Nash. I need to learn/understand the straight up Chun vs Akuma match better too. Going to study Iron’s vids as well.
Well, since we just got discs for console/PC AE, and some of the folks here want to learn and/or move to Yun, got an hour or so (and some records). Might as well be familiar with the matchup. I think I’ll be seeing a lot of him this year!

I tried my best to implement what I read here, and what I saw in other matchvids. I really think I should have won more. Bad habits --still using wakeup EXSBK like it’s 2009  :xeye:, dropped combos, badly placed kikos, too much sweep, etc-- and execution really needs work, but I’m glad that I’m finally getting to play regularly against a few people better than I (and am able to help the newer players).
I think Malva is right, Bipson (lol) has an easier time against the twins.
spoke with OHT (onehandedterror) although he hasnt been playing he recently posted on FB that he did pick it up was doing ok but hates AE because he lost to alot of subpar or just plain lame Yun players…DAMN…OHT is really good to…although i think if he plays more he can figure them out
OHT is probably just rusty. Like you were saying, if he puts a little more time into the game he’ll probably be fine.
