Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

yo ark impulse… you live in hermosa also??? we should play… i pm’d you… hit me back and i’ll give you my number.

it most certainly is JUST my opinion, and of course feel free to disregard anything i say

the problem is that THERE ARE patterns to your play that can become very obvious… mostly its the tempo that you keep… i read ALOT of players based on the tempo that they have or that i can force them into when we’re playing… much of that is based on my ability to react to small changes in distance in the neutral game better than my opponent… the problem i see with your style of play is that theres nothing to REALLY fear… i dont know how to explain it… perhaps someone else could do a better job…

… i mean when i play you’ll see me abuse the hell out of chuns cr.hk… i do that to see how my opponent reacts to my threat… and depending on that i adjust…

what is it that you do to read your opponents game? or are you just being… random…

that question isnt rhetorical, i just really want to know how you expect to get better, if you have no basis to learn off of… believe me, i’ve been there done that.
the only way to get better is to be able to find and admit your mistakes so that you dont make them anymore, or at the very least less often.

perfectly content to agree to disagree

Apparently I can’t send PM’s unless I have 5 or more posts.

I’ll find some cool video to post, brb.

Found something.
Great use of Dash-Ultra by Saw

6:20 versus Sagat

Edit: Saw actually catches the other player twice with the same Dash-Ultra move lol. gg

Also, he uses an interesting AA against Sagats knee jump-ins

i would never disagree with you calling the gameplay bad or the critiques, and i appreciate it a lot (and want it a lot for the future to get better.)

the only thing is that not having a set strategy is like…not a mistake to me. i’m not sure what i’m supposed to admit here. i don’t need to do a move to read people…somehow i can do it without that. i don’t know how to explain it, but i basically mix up reading what i think they will do and doing something that i have barely done (like hesitate ). there’s no logical reasoning for why it seems to luckily work consistently, i just feel like i have a deep sense of understanding people.

i’m far from being good with chun, but i do take offense to being told “calm down!!” when i’m sitting there pressing buttons all slow and usually having some thought behind it in my head. it’s like someone whispering in a library and hearing “HOLY SHIT YOUR SO LOUD!!!” and is very annoying.

i rush when i feel like the opponent won’t punish me, i turtle when i feel like he’s ready to counter rushes…it’s all based on what i feel. i can’t explain a feeling, same way a guy can’t explain the color green to a blind person. that’s the closest i can do.

i’m listening to your criticism, but i’m not going to just not jump or never do regular legs because you say that. i allow myself all options, whether it’s strategically retarded or not. it’s strategically retarded to go across the middle of the map in halo, yet pros do it plenty of the time because no one fucking expects it. i’m not saying there’s some huge genius behind how i play, but i’m not as big of a random retard that you make it sound like.

maybe if you watched the mirror chuns you’d notice a bit more before giving me such a desc.

the only reason i respond like that is because it feels like i’m being uh called a lot more scrubby than i actually am. i mean i’m scrubby, but i shouldn’t be giving you such a horrible headache that you make it out to be when watching my video

that first match between the 2 sagats was sick…

but omg that last chun match… beautiful. it was funny to see the chun try to focus absorb dash cancel to ultra only to not have enough meter to ultra… then get the meter on the next hit and then use that to ultra…

MM that first ultra chun did in the last round of that last match is exactly what i’m talking about with the “ULTRA OUT OF NOWHERE”

i totally didnt see it coming and i think we can assume the sagat player didnt also, VERY nice.

2:35, what the hell happened here? Why did HS armor break?

My god! Key normal is low strong in that video. I see that move stop most of sagat’s options; tiger knee recovery and jump ins. Great video Ark Impluse. How did Saw know if he saw that tiger shot coming?? Those are some fast reflexes to have dash ultra to work.

  That was the best thing EVER. Moral of the story - do NOT fireball spam Chun.

I like how, instead of going for the kill, SAW just backed away and baited his opponent out to make the same mistake - twice in a row. That was beautiful.

SAW is a good player, I don’t think his BP does him justice, or if he plays enough. Definitely not my favorite though  .

Reversals armor break, it can happen with a reset (as shown in the video), out of blockstun, or wake up.

All reversal moves armor break regardless if the moves have armor break properties.

DOOOOOOOOH
I didn’t notice the reversal out of the air reset, doh.

Fuck i was all hyped up, hoping it was some sort of glitch

He seems to block all your pokes everytime. Try more throws inside to keep him guessing.

Also you tend to throw fireballs full screen alot and he punishes you. Maybe change that up a bit.

Another thing I noticed was several opportunities for you to use EX SBK. He jumped in alot to do crossups and I think EX SBK would have made his jump ins more cautious. (3:20 in match 4 was a good example)

lol well because “you insisted” i watched the chun mirrors…

glad i did… its like 2 completely different players playing… your guys move selections weren’t that great at points… but your strategy was sound and intact.

yeah but sorry that ken match was BAD… i was too harsh on you i know… had i not seen your execution was up to snuff i wouldnt have said anything at all… it’d be a waste of my time. cookie coating things isnt my WAY… if someone asks me a question i either ignore it or give the true answer (as i see it) no matter how harsh it is… but yeah, i still feel as if that first match versus ken was at the very least a fuck around match versus a player you could fuck around against…

you didnt tell us that… you wanted critique of a fuck around match??? of course i’m going to think thats the way you always play… thats all i had to go on…

so very glad you posted up the mirrors though
shows that your learning… i could see the reasoning behind everymove you made in those matches… perhaps you should play at 3 am more often…

my biggest critique is of course still your use of regular lightning legs, and your opponents use of non hit confirmed (he was guessing) B+MK, MK target combo,

you guys were still jumping way too much, especially towards the end… but thats not yet to be worried about, the biggest point is that you both got defensive at points that you knew that you were at a disadvantage, which is great because i saw almost none of that in the ken video… blocking scares people… really.

good job!

dime is content once again as the streetfighter gods have come down and blessed alucards game with insight.

hallelujeha!

i’ve used this tactic before since u build revenge meter from blocked projectiles, ur opponent often forgets that and when u get ultra…BAM smack’em wit it for spamming, not knowing u were baiting them the entire time:rofl:

Thanks for the tips, buddy. Hey, isn’t Hermosa Beach close to Santa Monica?

yeah i probably should have put the matches in reverse order and made a note that during the ken game it was pretty much just a fuck around.

and yeah i don’t mind harshness at all, it’s just i thought you actually watched the mirror chun matches too and wrote that, despite me saying “watch them” in the thing (i kind of expected you to respond “yea i did watch them scrub …” for some reason.)

i mean i know i made a bunch of mistakes and such but we were playing seriously without our mics in for those sets, and i just read “CALM THE FUCK DOWN ITS TOTALLY RANDOM” as a response and kind of go

it was like i expected “yea still scrubby here here and here, but not terrible.” did not expect “holy shit you suck balls, relax my young retard you’re not ready to mix up your game at all yet, try doing a hadouken first.”

but thanks for the feedback after watching them, it helps reassure that i am progressing at least a little

I don’t really have anymore sensible advice than Dime gave, not enough experience against Dhalsim’s of that quality. But, I did think that he was getting a read on your kikoken’s. Be it, charge time, or lag allowing him to see that small step forward before your kikoken came out. I think you could have used that against him by intentionally dropping your charge now and then, to nudge forward, or rather not drop your charge at all and just whiff a jab and see if he’ll commit to a teleport.

Was the lag really noticeable? It’s hard to see it in the video, but I think playing against Dhalsim in lag is almost as frustrating for the person playing against 'Sim; As it is for the Dhalsim player (I’ve seen them complain lag messes up his stuff). I’ve walked into Air teleports before, when I know they are coming, because thats all the Dhalsim player has shown me… yea, I hate playing that matchup in lag.

Against Seth I think you could have been buffering backdashes against his blocked jump-in SPD nonsense. Other than that Seth with super/ultra makes the entire screen unsafe for fireballs (silly). If anyone has more stuff about Seth, post in the matchup thread, cause I really need the advice. Embarrassed myself against a Seth the other day that did nothing but Boom->jump downwards fierce->low fierce the entire time… I felt so stupid ^^.

dont feel stupid. that seth shit owned me online also… havent played against it offline yet though… seths and sims jumping fierces ARE NOT the same… lol seth pisses redbull. his jump is crackmode which makes his jump back fierce WAY more annoying than dhalsims.
add to that the fact that his cr.FP is safe on block and chun cant even make him block anything after her blocking it… (she can reversal super though) add in his wall jumps and he becomes SUPER annoying to play against.

i dont know how to play that matchup at all

Quoting to say that the Cammy vid was very educational, not to mention inspiring! I’m hosting a mini-SF4 tournament at my bachelor party and the “guy to beat” mains Cammy. He has no qualms about pressing the advantage with that damned EX Houligan so it’s nice to see someone being able to deal with it.
