Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

local casuals of AE here, sorry for the quality. The Chun in the Zangief match is a Korean or Chinese dude (who I don’t know). The others are Omar/Cascadian, the pad Chun whom I’m learning from.

Looked pretty good 4neqs!
good use of Mp and Hk for sure
I liked the Yun vid because I’m trying to second hand learn this match up before the DLC.
Is it possible to U1 reversal his lunge punch? Seems like if you are keeping your distance and see a Yun player flash yellow you can react with U1 too
but I dunno I can only do that every now and then against Balrog’s punches and your more advanced players won’t do full screen stuff.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=P8D7C0UC zipped and uploaded the YT links, it’s going to be smaller on a player (.3gp opens with VLC Player) but at least it won’t be as blurry. It’s the least I can do til I get a better camera.

so no one is going to comment on the vids lol
i guess i am just super trill

What Videos? I haven’t been here a lot recently so I haven’t seen em… though you probably are super trill anyway (whatever trill means lol)

Unfortunately I can’t find a topic here about recording matches of** SF4 on PC** so I will ask here.

What is the best way to make a match replay on PC? I’ve been thinking about trying to use WeGame to record it and upload it on youtube so that you can give me constructive criticism.

Check with the tech talk boards. It’s proabably come up before. I’m guessing there is a low impact screen capture software out there. I don’t play on my computer anymore (mobo fried) but I read the tech talk forums and they are typically in the know of such things.

Fraps???

I hear it’s pretty hard on your cpu performance. Don’t take my word for it tho.

Hmm, I dunno about Fraps giving CPUs a hard time. I’ve never had a problem with it, but then again I used it back when I used to play Counter-Strike 1.6 (lol good times), so I think my system was good enough to run fraps and CS at the same time. I dunno about something graphics-intensive like SF4.

Thanks anyways. I tried WeGame so far it’s better than FRAPS. Recorded a match between me and another Chun. No impact on performance and the video quality is really good. Now I just need my activation email from youtube and you can begin helping me improve

P.S. I lost horribly stupid to another Chun :frowning:

Gonna record another match.

its on the top of the page

What is?

If you mean JustinTV then you should reread my post.

Came across this video of myself on Youtube. I play horrendously bad, and the uploader decided to pick the worst, most one sided match between the two of us(despite the massive win streak I did at least win a few), but I thought it was worth posting anyway.

I’ve been out of practice recently, what with exams and preferring Marvel to just play casually, but I’ll definitely get back into SSF4 once my exams are finished next week, especially with AE so close to releasing.

Fraps works, I’ve been using the commercial version of it. SF4 is kind of CPU heavy though, so I need to record at 30fps, half-resolution in Fraps to prevent any reduced framerate in game (I’m running SF4 at max graphics, 1920x1200).

If your CPU is really on the low side, you might have to reduce in-game graphics / resolution to get Fraps recording smoothly. Also, the recordings take quite a bit of space, 1 match for my settings is usually 1-2GB. You have to encode that with better compression before sending it to Youtube (well, you can just send it raw but the upload takes ages)

I finally uploaded a match. First problems with authentication then uploading and it’s finally done. Whole 3 round match is cca 300mb with WeGame and nocompression but lowest quality, highest frame rate. It turned out pretty good. All the slowdowns are from laggy connection and recording has no impact on performance (atleast nothing I felt).

Here is the link of me horribly losing to a Vega (Claw) user. Feel free to criticise my play.

-Too many whiffed cr. rh – the first 5 to 10 seconds should be reserved for reading your opponent’s ability to control space.
-When you do score a knock down, make a mental checklist of their wakeup options. In this particular scenario, Vega players will usually go for a. flip kick (normal/ex version), b. throw c. backflip
-Try to make better use of your meter management; often you burned meter as a means to counter, however the opponent was just outside of the attack range.

 • Chun’s normals are really good, but cr. rh shouldn’t be the one that you liberally toss out. Use st. jab/strong more… when you get hit confirm off st. jab, complete the sequence into 2/3 more st. jabs into st. fp (the number of hits is character specific). St strong is an extremely annoying poke that’s pretty safe for Chun and allows her to control space from a respectable distance. Also, using far cr. jab is a great way to “check” your opponent. Some players tend to instinctively feel the need to mash during jab strings (for reasons I have yet to understand, it’s unwise). Keep your tempo steady; don’t hit the inputs like jabjabjabjab… but more like jab, jab, jab. A few different strings you can try:

cr. jab, cr. jab, st. jab, st. strong
cr. short, cr, jab, st. strong
cr. short, cr. jab, cr. mk, mk or fp kioken

And here are some BNBs that offer some decent damage:

cr. jab, cl. st. rh, rh legs
cr. jab, cr. jab, cr. mk (can combo into super off hit-confirm)
cr. jab, st. jab, st. jab, st. fp (can follow up with super)
cr. jab, st. mk, kioken (any strength)
charge db, cr. jab, st. strong xx Super

HTH.

Thanks for taking the time and reviewing! I noticed myself I burn meter in silly ways and I also don’t keep track of opponents.
Unfortunately and I can’t find a reason but I reflexively just do cr.rh … I can’t stop myself :frowning:

I’m currently using only one link: cr.short, cr.jab, cr.short
And a BNB: cr.short, cr.short, EX Lightning Legs

I have trouble hit-confirming in offline, I doubt I could do it online …

What do you mean by checking if they are mashing? How do I know if they are and how that helps me?

Off I go training those strings you listed

I just revised that a bit because the context of what I intended to say was fuzzy – my apologies.

I learned this tactic from a friend of mine, who does this to illicit a response. He uses far. cr. jabs because it’s great poke that poses minimal risk to Chun.

When used against a shoto for example, may react with a DP, thinking they’ve found an opening. If you’re outside the attack range, the attack will whiff and now you can execute your best punish. This is why the tempo is important (as well as mixing it up) to avoid putting yourself into pokes that convey a predictable pattern.

What also helps is after two or three jabs, take a slight step back… observe (they’ll either do nothing, attempt to throw or throw out some other attack). The key here is to measure your spacing and options vs. the range/space of your character’s attack ranges (note: the number of jabs you can do standing are character specific. A SRK member recently documented that in detail, try to search for it). You can also try this after a knockdown/untechable knockdown… walk up to them, then take a slight step back. In most cases, the opponent usually expects you’re going to attempt a meaty attack or throw them. You’ll actually be baiting them to retaliate, which in turn, leads to yet another opportunity to punish.

Movement, mind games and observation are what I am focusing heavily on right now because they’ll make ALL the difference in a matchup.

footsies why u so gdlk ;_;
