Ok guys, please don’t laugh. I’m probably a mediocre Chun at best and I just had a set with a really good Viper (lol) and got annihilated. I mean I literally felt like I didn’t know how to play the game. I think I’ve only played one good viper before, and it was when I was still pretty new to Chun, so I’m really in the dark on this match-up. I also play offline way more than online, so I kinda drop a lot of simple combos that normally I’m much more accurate with (dropped ultra 2 three times, wtf?). Any advice on how to contain Viper?

I know, I’m free.
Played his 0bp Akuma on SRKLive too. What is it with this guy and picking bad matchups for chun? He is very polite though!
Well–you fought Latif so I feel pretty confident that a vast majority of the SF community is in the dark on how to beat him and his wicked viper. I’ve seen him destroy so many people and make some many ridiculous come backs its insane. I saw him do his 80 game win streak on Peaceful Jays stream against people I’d have my hands completely full with.
So having only watched a few of the vids I don’t think you did too bad really. Especially considering he has over 13,000 freaking fights logged online and you had 235, at least on xbox.
On offense, try to avoid tick throws, and keep blockstrings tight. BK spam just shits all over this. Mix it up with jabs, cs.hk, and cr.hp which all counter the BK spam. If they start mixing it up with hp.tk, use c.mk, and bait ex seismos. The last thing you want to be is predictable. Be wary of using meaty attacks on her wakeup where she can use ex seismo feint to avoid your attack and throw you. Viper only needs one chance to get you on your back, and if you find yourself in that situation, it’s a tall mountain to climb. Resist the temptation to throw kikokens. Anyone who knows how to play Viper well will just insta bk over the top of it, or ex seismo through it.
I don’t think you did a whole lot wrong to be honest. Latif can render most players to tears, and this matchup is in her favour. It’s a difficult match, but not an impossible one.
Yeah, my online fight count is a little deceptive. I have about 1800-2000 (still not nearly as much as Latif) more fights on PSN, though probably only half of them are with Chun. I just recently switched for the better online on XBOX. Seems the majority of well known top players play on Live too, so I’m glad I made the switch. Never imagined I would get chance to play a set against someone like PJS Latif. I was completely out of my league.
Meeks, thanks for that advice. I didn’t know you could get under tk with c.mk. Does that work against mp.tk too? That move is completely safe on block (even against reversal mk super) and I didn’t know what to do other than run when he would pressure me with it. It would have been nice to have a tool to dissuade him from abusing it. I really need to study the Viper/Chun match-up.
cr.mk landed meaty on Vipers wake up is also a good option, it beats or makes her wake up options whiff, most of her whiffed wake ups can then also be punish…
C.mk kind of ducks under mp.tk but only if you hit her on the startup. In fact, any attack will beat her mp.tk if you hit her on startup, however, and I have tested this, you can actually c.mk in between c.mp/c.mk xx mp.tk, but the timing is really strict. I wouldn’t recommend that though. It’s unfortunately, one of those things that she can get away with on block, so you just have to be vigilant in your defence and block and react to what she does next.
Nice anti airing and obviously your normals were on point. One thing I noticed was that you were fishing for counterhits without setting up the throw first. Why? One other thing I noticed was that you didn’t do the safe jump setup off of the forward throw. Instedad you were taking a step and doing j.jk instead of dash j.jp x2.
I always go for counter hit first and I mix the timing to see what kind of crouch techer the player is. Late tech or early tech.
I go for jump hk when they have ex meter, so when I hit deep I wont get hit by it, plus its online and alot easier to time and os the sweep off jump hk for me.
Finally I feel like a true SF player–I’ve got uploads on youtube, lol!
As the title suggests these are some Xbox Live sessions for C&C
So anyway first up is one of my match up woes. I felt this guy was a pretty solid Rose player and I wish I could have gotten more then two fights in on him. I lost in both of these fights but fought pretty well. Looking for tips and tricks any general help with what I’m doing right-wrong etc.,

Up Next Rufus:
I fought this fellow 5 times and this is the only one of the set I won, though all of the fights were pretty even. I feel like I played really well in all the fights and Anti-aired a lot of his dive kicks which altered the way he approached me. From what I’ve read this match up is a headache for any Chun Li player (hurray I’m not alone!) so let me know how I did.

Lastly Dee Jay:
Here are two different Dee Jay players, neither I don’t think were really great, but I felt we were on fairly level playing fields–thus I’m uploading them for C&C.
