Yeah lol, I haven’t even seen any actual matchups or serious competitive play of SFxT yet and I’m already pretty sure Bob is gonna be a shitty matchup for Chun
After watching the video interview with Ono, there are a few more things I noticed about Chun. df lk and df hk seem to still be intact. df hk looks to be able to combo into sweep. Most of her normals still look the same. I saw low strong combo into low jab in one clip. (edit: after rewatching, it appears low forward was used as anti-air, leaving the opponent in a jugglable state, and the low jab juggled.) One thing I’m not sold on is the half circle motion for Lightning Legs. I haven’t seen any use of Hazanshu yet, but assuming it’s still there, then Lightning Legs would have to be HCF+kick. Do not want. That then leads to the question if legs combos can be extended. One last thing is, unless charge times are crazy fast, then it look like Kikoken is going to be motion based, I would assume HCF. In one clip versus guile, she scores a knockdown, and uses df hk to cross him up while he’s floored, and immediately upon landing throws an EX Kikoken.
Can you guys rate my Chun-Li?

Only watched the first fight…
You completely fell to bits in the first round, you needed to compose yourself back away and think about what you were going to do… You didn’t seem to have a gameplan at all. You got punished badly for bad AA choices then just went mental trying to land throws from way out of range. In that situation you need to just get space think about what you can do, think about building meter for the next round and try and edge (turtle) you way back into the round. You had plenty of time for that…
Other things in general now:
- You use a lot of meter Chun has other BnB’s that do good damage and don’t use meter, some even build a lot of meter
- You didn’t seem to want to zone and poke at very much, these are important so you can space your opponent, again I think this is where a game plan is important, what are you trying to do or gain from a situation. What are you wanting to condition your opponent to do. What does your opponent do/not do in reaction to situations… You need to enter into fights with a plan of what you are trying to achieve. Why you are pressing the buttons you are rather than randomly attacking… leading onto…
- Why the random HSU’s? At what point was you opponent not ready for them, what had you done or he done that made you think that 1/2 screen HSU would work? And why do it again after it had been punished first time. Seems it was just something you were going to do regardless of what the Ryu player was doing rather than a read or as part of an overall plan
- Why use the flipkick (d/f RH) on Ryu in the corner? Even in the round that you played really well, why? Reason I ask is firstly its not safe but more importantly you’d put you opponent in the corner… Giving you total advantage in the round, from there as long as you don’t jump in on him what can he do. You can apply pressure, poke him score damage and gain meter whilst having the rest of the level to back into if required. Also eventually he’s going to have to jump out allowing you to punish him…
In this situation I find that if you apply a bit of pressure and frame traps (like cr.jab, cr.jab, walk back 1 step cr.RH) people press buttons, panic so then just pause for a second see what they do and space yourself at AA range, if they do panic and jump you can put em back in the corner and pressure again for a little bit. If they don’t then apply pressure (cr.fierce xx legs, far st.mp pokes and basic frame traps)…
Instead you gave up position by flipping into the corner yourself to try and score quick damage rather than thinking of the long term plan. You put yourself in the position you would surely most want to avoid? The corner…
However when you played well you played well and the last round was a very strong showing, some nice mix ups from cr.fierce, xx MKSBK (which I never use cos of the guessing game at the end) and great hit confirms into legs. Nice victory just not sure you really planned it to go that way…
Generally nice execution I think from watching that fight you just need to work on thinking about what and why you’re doing what you are in fights That wasn’t to harsh sounding overall was it?
Wii is a really nice Chun so definately take to heart what he said.
I would like to add that St. MK would have punished Ryu’s jump ins and normally you can follow it up with Cr. HK
it took me sometime to get used to using it but it was Wii that told me to play Chun in more neutral state. Let me tell ya I’ve grown a lot better because of it!
2nd game, 3rd round - fwd throw, dash in, j.lk ??? … Seriously? -
You should consider learning specific matchups instead of playing every match the same way i.e safe jump setups.
Round 1 vs the Sagat needed work too. You were up against Sagat… more turtling, less sticking out of moves that can get knee’d/kara Tiger’d.
Against high tiger shots, you can get in slowly with c. hp. Usually, it’s better than jumping a high tiger (from experience).
I think Wii has everything else covered. Keep playing and improving

What Wii said.
oh man, that was harsh.
Was it online btw? You seemed to be walking into Tiger Shots at times. That’s damage you can ill afford, so the “turtle it up” part of my previous post holds.
Yeah it was online. I was also playing against one of “the best” Sagat players on PSN. And he was also from another country, so my connection was not at its best.
But yeah the delay from lag is pretty bad. because sometimes I am trying to block but I hit it a second too late and it doesn’t register in time, so I eat some footsies or fireballs like that.
I was often a pretty aggressive rush down kinda Chun li. But I feel that I just can’t play like that online, at least not anymore. I’ve taken a very long break and now I’m getting ready for the DLC. It’s kinda coming back to me now so thats good. Hope to see many of you play the DLC, and hopefully that “supercharged online” means very good connections (It could be a misleading statement ).
One of the best Sagats on PSN according to who? No offense dude, but this Sagat plays nowhere near the level that would warrant a label as prestigious as “One of the best Sagats on PSN”.
Trying to toot your own horn will not mask your deficiencies as a player, and I can guarantee you, that you have some major holes in your game that you need to fix as pointed out by Wii and some others.
Now, if you want us to give you a brutally honest critique of your gameplay, and rate it without prejudice, you should have directed us to a game which was lag free or against an opponent where connection should not have been an issue. Critiquing a laggy game is pointless since it hinders everyone involved in the game.
Not trying to troll, just telling it like it is.
Agreed… I’ve watched the second fight now and the Sagat wasn’t “one of the best” I’ve fought let alone “one of the best” full stop… (I have faced and do face some players I feel at least I can rightfully claim as beasts but I don’t try and use that or play up to that as a good or bad thing) You got away with jump back instant overhead more than once, now this is a valid tactic but Sagat has the best/most damaging reply to that even on hit. Surely a good Sagat would instinctively punish this… And that’s just the start of what I feel was missing from the Sagats game, like zoning? Good AA’s and Kara punishes!
Also as stated not enough safe jump set ups and the one you did get you didn’t make it safe, I can understand if you had already done a few before it to test if the Sagat knew it was a safe jump because that then does give you some room for mix up. Even then I normal do the empty jump into cr.short…
I didn’t mean to be harsh btw so I am sorry if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear, but its what this place is for isn’t it, to point out your issues? People like Skatan and Meeks have put me on blast before (and especially Bahn, lol now he can be harsh but fair) about my game, don’t take it personally, its just advice. The few times I’ve asked for help or Critique on my game (outside as well as inside these forums) I’ve expected it to be damning, that’s kinda why you ask for it… Isn’t it?
qft
You can tell when people exlusively play online or worse when it’s psn including your oppenents. Although I’m sure there must be some credit given for being able to time any sort of link on psn. Take Wii’s advice and apply it. Less shinannigans. Play more cerebral not just reactionary.
In my experience timing links on PSN has nothing to do with looking at the screen or hearing the sounds, at some point it all just becomes muscle memory. I’m pretty sure I could nail most of Chun’s BnBs without seeing or hearing the screen lol (as I’m sure most of us probably could), so online it’s not really landing a link, it’s just dialing a combo.
Also, I would’ve watched the vids but I think there has been enough critique at this point that anything I’d add would just be repetitive.
What about follow ups to cr.hp legs?
That’s probably the one exception, and anything with Super tacked on tends to be hard to do too, but I mean her classic BnBs, comboing jabs into fierce, comboing into EX legs, that type of thing.
oh no, don’t get me wrong, the criticism is great. if you thought I got offended or something, then I apologize.
well look on the TOP PLAYERS PSN thread, many posters on there said he was a beast. I agree too because doesn’t suck like some of you think he does
I don’t blame you guys for not knowing him though since most of you are on xboxlive
