i guess i rather lose half my meter than risk half my life.
Mmm, Makoto doesn’t have a good way of punishing fireballs unless she has Ultra 2 (which she didn’t). I mean it’s up to you, but I’d personally save the meter.
i dont know much about makoto so i didn’t know what surprises she had in store
Things to know about Makoto:
- Don’t jump (LP Uppercut, HP Uppercut jump cancel EX Axe kick hurts like a mother, especially against Chun since she has low life)
- Don’t press buttons during her blockstrings, she has a lot of natural frame traps
- During blockstrings, be very aware of her command grab and her overhead. I recommend backdashing. Her overhead breaks armor.
- Hayate (her forward rush punch) does not break armor. If you read it, it’s total focus bait.
- st.MP and st.HP are good ways of stopping her air Axe Kick.
I’m a Vega main and I very rarely post, but I came across this game on youtube which might interest some of you Chun players out there. The combo at 1:16 was pretty magical

He’s done some other interesting combos I’ve rarely seen any other Chun players attempt in his other videos. Very good Chun.
Yeah Meeks has a good (very good Chun) He posts on here…
DANG! I’ve watched about half of his youtube videos. I gotta keep some of his moves in mind, especially gotta get that c.hp into legs down. but I mostly play with a PS3 controller as I’m still getting comfortable with my Chun Li -Stick that I got for christmas!
Drop the controller completely, and just get used to the stick. It makes so much difference, it’s not even funny. It may take a while to get used to it, but it’s completely worth it.
LOL Meeks loops are hard execution wise (hence he’s good, nearly as good as me lol… JOKE btw) so a stick won’t make the loop a lot easier but in general agreed, its way easier to do cr.fierce xx Legs on a stick and it will improve your game overall (after the first 2/3 weeks of struggling to get to grips with it)… Whatever you do don’t be tempted to use controller, no matter what stick to only… err… stick! lol
Get in training and practice all your basics and BnB’s over and over from both sides of the screen until it becomes muscle memory
First of all, thanks for the kind words.
Secondly, I’d just like to weigh in on this whole c.fierce xx legs loop thing. Let me clear something up. Don’t get caught up in thinking that being able to do the loop will make you a better player. It won’t. Yes, doing c.fierce xx legs is important to learn because of its stun value, and the various setups it allows (which includes consecutive loop iterations), but being able to do the loop is not a necessity. It’s a bonus. You should learn it because you can, not because you have to.
If I were completely honest with myself here, I would say that my game against that Vega player was actually not that great, bar the exception of said combo that I managed to execute on him. For the most part, he outfootsied me, and my spacing was terrible. I did some lucky things and got away with it. I posted the game up, merely for the combo because let’s face it, a good majority of viewers love style, and they love combos. But I hope I’m able to shed some light on other aspects of the games like footsies, counter punishes, mind games etc. in my other replays. Maybe it’s my fault that my replays are so combo-centric that some of the finer points of the game go unnoticed.
Before I go off-tangent, make sure you guys are practising the stuff that matters. The loop is a great thing to learn, and it will certainly impress people. But if winning is your goal, and wanting to be competitive in tournaments is your ticket, you need strong fundamentals, maximising damage with combos on punishes, and knowing matchups (amongst other things) goes a long way. In saying all this, thanks for watching and supporting my videos, and hope you continue to do so. Even if it only inspires one or two people, it makes the world of difference to me
I don’t post often asking for advice as such and like never post my matches but I’m just starting to try and learnt the Rose match up as its a character I really struggle against as I haven’t really put any time into that match up till now…
So here’s a few matches from a practice session with a Rose player that was pretty good (well good enough to beat me 17-9), there are some wins and losses… Any advice in this match up like what spacing I should be using and what I should AA with (you’ll notice I just block a lot of jump ins cos I didn’t know what beats what really) would be cool…
I do some stupid U1’s but ignore them that was just me been a prick lol

Anyway cheers to anyone that can be bothered to offer advice on how I played the matches would be cool
First of all nice chun.
But u do many mistakes. U do to much focus attack , jump a lot and try to jap between the links. You need to do more AA like st.mk df.lk and so on. You can anti air rose from far away with st.hk . U 1 vs rose is good. First of all its hard to get in into a good rose player . Dont fokus her normals becuase your focus will whiff at a certain distance and u will eat more dmg. Try to absorb fireballs at the beginning to gain ultra meter . fire kikoken and do ll to gain meter. Your first problem is when u got hitconfirm with cr.lp u always do st.mp ? Try to do cr.mk or cr.lk ex legs . It does a knockdown and u have a free jump in . Try to os rose with cr.hk.
If u have ultra meter rose cant shoot fireballs anymore because her fireballs are one of the worst in the game. u can punish them easily with ultra. if rose try to get close . try to zone her with kikoken and st.hk st.mp and sweep. The most roses try to get in with slde . Try to sweep it on reaction. If rose does cr.mp and soul xxx ( dont know the name the one with the armor break) it does not make a blockstring so u can do ex spinning bird kick on reaction.
I hope this helps you.
Best regards
Halibel

Some douchebag in a wifebeater started a SSF4 stream, so I decided to troll it while my buddy recorded. Hilarity ensued.
Cheers for the input and cheers for saying I have a nice Chun lol…
Yeah I didn’t AA much cos as I said I wasn’t exactly sure what the best one to use was I should really have guessed it would be st.forward lol. Also noted on the jumping although imo Rose doesn’t have good AA options and this particular Rose did a bad job of making me think twice about it…
I know the EX SBK beating the armour breaker however I have awful reactions so I just decided to block that although I think you’re probably right in suggesting I get used to landing that breaker cos I did find myself having to soak up a lot of pressure…
Cheers for the tips the rest I will try to use next time I get some practice in (also the not using EX Legs and using st.strong has been mentioned before lol however that is just an automatic string I do without even thinking, and am going to try and stop)
Ugh. I wish I could play at home and record vids so that I could post them and get critique. My improvement has been so slow lately. Stupid laggy TVs. I’m at a point where I am almost considering hooking my PS3 up to my PC monitor just so I can play the damn game and practice at home (as opposed to being forced to go to the arcade to practice, where I can’t go to training mode and figure stuff out).
Either way, I agree with Meeks. cr.HP xx Legs is a good addition, and it’s useful, but it’s certainly not necessary. Fundamentals are key.
Yeah must be a bit of a pain having no home time with the game… Also I agree about the legs loop, I don’t use it (cos I still drop it more than I get it) and tbh I think cr.short, EX Legs on the end is a better option anyway if you have the meter… It is nice, looks great, shows high execution level and scares people if you land it but it doesn’t mean you’re going to win the game cos you land it. Meeks was right about spacing and maximising punishes as the real way to win fights

Also only one set of advice for me so far so maybe you’re not missing out on loads of advice anyway
The thing is, I don’t necessarily need advice as much as I need to watch myself play, after-the-fact.
I know all (or most, at least) of the theoretically “right” things to do but when I play I don’t execute the “right” things properly. I rush down too much, I get scared, I second-guess myself, I don’t maximize damage, I auto-pilot, etc. In the moment, I lose all the fundamentals that I know I’m supposed to use.
Really I just need to watch gameplay videos of myself so that I can know what I’m doing wrong, but I can’t even do that.
Kinda the same here, but I figure if enough people tell you the stuff you’re not doing at the time for whatever reason, in my case its that I have certain strings I just do automatically or doing too much etc… then eventually it will make you properly think about it. Its not like I don’t know most of the stuff just doing it is something different cos I (and I am pretty sure everyone else) gets into set little strings and patterns of play or habits that means that even when you watch it back you know its not perfect but you still don’t make the adjustments cos of habit…
The best way to break a habit is to have people constantly point it out, also in my case… There may have been 1 or 2 things I would just not see that someone else can point out. Either way I like never post my vids here, its just in this case I don’t know the Rose match up well enough to know any subtleties I might have missed…
