Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

That Gouki v Sagat match was awesome. Very solid Chun too, obviously. Kinda feel silly posting these now after that display of skill, but here goes:

Matches with my nick in the title have Chun in’em, I believe that’s six. It’s pretty much turtle fest 2k9, but check out the part3’s of both sets and gimme some tips on how to better handle the matchups. Felt really lost v Rufus and Ryu I think I just got sloppy with dp’able strings and EX SBK on wakeup.

I dunno about this guy… he does EX legs outside of links…:arazz:

dont need to do them in links if you know hes going to unblock them. So its basically mind game guessing there lol

Here are some lagtastic online videos for you guys

All against Sagat.

Chun is already hard to use online as it is, against Sagat is pretty horrible online. As you can see I died more times than I needed to from trying to ultra/dash ultra through tiger shots :.

Dime, the end of one of these videos is for you. SAFE STOMP THAT HOE!!! I can’t remember which video it is though.

LMAO times infinity the Japs are playin this shit LOL!!! HOLY SHIT!!!

Chun Li at 13:32 LOL check out those moves, Chun is GOD TIER LOL!!!

wtf

Edit: Holy shit @ the victory dance.

that win pose is awesome LOL!!!

Mag, man those videos just remind me how much I hate Sagat. Those kinds of Sagat are even more boring to watch/fight than flowchart Kens.

Yeah, offline st.forward rapes Sagat and shotos but online it’s not even viable. I wasn’t quick enough with my low strongs, or I just timed them wrong due to me overthinking that I have to press it earlier due to delay, then it comes out TOO early. lol, that’s what I get though, I guess. I ended up blocking the rest of his jump ins.

There was one time, where he jumped over my fierce clean, forcing me to either block or take damage. It was a nice move, and I learned to definitely hold my pokes until I know I won’t run into his, and I will land mine at least for him to block it and nothing else.

I only jump forward once or twice max, Chun doesn’t need to be jumping forward against Sagat at all, that’s just asking to take damage.

Hmm…I’ll try and find more to improve on when I review another time.

Yeah I love st.forward. As great as online play is, that it allows us to play against others when we don’t have any friends over to play with, the connection can really fuck things up especially against characters like Sagat. It was easy to tell when you missed those dashes into Ultra, sucks. =(

Man if there is one thing I could change in my playstyle, it would be my jumping habbit. I’ve been watching your videos, I subscribed to your youtube, and I see that I jump alot more than you do and it gets me punished like crazy. I don’t know what it is I jump more than I have to. Sometimes right before I jump I tell myself: “Here comes an uppercut” but my dumb ass still jumps.

cant watch the vids right now… some *** is sucking up all the bandwidth 'round here… shits slow as hell…

I think it’s cause you can get lots of combos in for jumping in, if you can just land that hit. It almost feels like it’s worth it – but it really isn’t when someone is paying attention to you while playing footsies, especially with Chun’s floaty jump.

I would suggest figuring out the spacings where you want to jump (perfect target combo range, j. hk range, far j. mk range, cross up range) then learn some footsies for those ranges. If it’s against Ryu, try recording things he might be able to do about your footsies and come up with ways to counter them.

Fukken hell…

If I ever play against a Sagat or Dahlsim that play like those videos, all I have to look forward to is “TIRE SOAP TIRE SOAP TIRE SOAP” and trying not to die. Awesome. One of my friends describe jazz to me as being fun to play but not listen to, which totally describes fireball 'toon vs. fireball 'toon matches.

>_< The one time I hit the hasan-shu I miss my low short into EX legs. Epic fail!!!

I tried to steal Nuki’s jump in EX hasan-shu bounce, but I didn’t hit haha.

The one thing I think I lost completely for, is not anti airing him. When he was jumping in that close, I should have fierced, when he was jumping that far with the strong, I should have timed my low strong.

One last thing, I’m going to incorporate better evasiveness into my game. I like how Dime was doing hasan-shu over low tiger shots in his match against Sagat. Offline, it can be a real weapon when you get close with short hasan-shu, and low fierce inching forward under high tiger shots…used together, you can avoid chip while absorbing for your ultra.

edit: Mid-screen though, I will always block, since spotting a fast/slow+high/low tiger mid screen (which is basically like a poke to me) is way out of my league lol.

edit two: But in mid screen range is where you want to be, since your hasan-shu hits, so I guess it all pans out :bgrin:

I don’t have time to watch lots of 5 minute videos at the moment, so I only watched the topmost Rufus video (match 3). I thought you did pretty well, but throughout the entire match you were neutral jumping just at the edge of footsie distance. In round 5 at the end I thought… Okay, Zenfire is going to neutral jump, and Rufus is going to meet him in the air. Instead Rufus went with tornado; which seemed bizarre to me, he must’ve been the only person in the room not expecting you to jump right at that moment. (Nice ultra versus his long range fierce poke though!)

I’ll edit this post later if I notice more things after watching some more of those matches.

As always, thanks for sharing.

Edit: Yea, every video I’ve watched you are really milking that neutral jump roundhouse. Which is understandable because it’s working for you alot in those games. I just would’ve loved to have seen your opponents using focus attacks versus those. Pretty easy tactic for them to punish your lack of trip guard throwing out the rh so soon in the air and if they have ultra, thats alot of damage. When you did stay on the ground for more than a few seconds I liked the ground work you were putting in, so maybe these guys just weren’t making you work hard enough for it.

Edit: Heh, MagnetoManiac. Seems like anytime you play a Sagat it’s a laggy match. It’s almost a disservice to the Sagat player when you can clearly hear your ultra input should be intime to punish whats on the screen, but they get away with it for free ^^. Still, I enjoyed that cr.fp under high tiger->ultra.

(not all of the fights are him, but most are)

Pretty interesting Chun Li player. Anyone have any other videos of this guy?

May be, I honestly don’t know. I just have the big urge to jump all the time, I seriously gotta work on that.

try playing a blanka that has anti air roll on lock and youll automatically adjust

Heh, so true. You’ve already watched more than I expected anyone to. It’s very true about the J.HK. I do it so much because it works for me… to a certain extent. When that Rufus player got me with his own J.HK into EX snake strikes it hurt A LOT!. I think it’s a lack of confidence in my own ground game that gets me milking the neutral jump so much. Another thing I see when I look back at the vids is me using dash up sweep when I’ve got their attention on other things (kikkokens mostly, but also my occasional far S.HK). It’s really risky because of it’s long recovery and since I’m not even going for much after the times I get the knockdown, I don’t know why I don’t just go for S.MP or S.HP, both of which recover faster than a sweep in case they jump.

I’ll make sure the next videos I put up and link to will show some improvement!
