I guess I got my Gen tendencies from jumping a lot, given that Gen only had the wall dives or jump in as a way of getting in. It’s definitely a new thing for me to use a character that gets a lot of mileage from pokes. Kinda why I like her. I’m trying to get more different character matches. I just had that because I had that really long session against that sim with chun on endless.
Hey guys. I went to a local tournament today and got first. Recorded Winners Finals and Grand Finals. I had trouble with his Fei and lost 2 in a row in Grand finals, but went to the character select screen to sort some things out. Thanks for the critique in advance!
Oh, and thanks for the critique for my last recorded match.

Overall I think you were decent. I found it strange that you were trying to keep a distance with Dhalsim, if you get close and get some mix up going it’s over for him. If he was really poking you that much I think you could have tried to fish out a poke with a dash EX legs, unless you play on a controller and thats tough for you. You should try to do more combos that damage when you land that target combo, like cr fierce xx MK spinning bird kick or if its blocked you can go for a cl. roundhouse/cr. fierce xx Hazanshu or you can grab too. I like to mix up sweeps, Hazanshus, and grabs. Learn some better block strings (your block strings were short because they put distance between you guys so quickly) that could be tick throws of frame traps. That player is pretty decent though, I was expecting a solution to a scrub tactic lol (the average questions from new players).
Overall I think you were good, I don’t have much to tell you. For Cammy all I can say is don’t do standing roundhouses since she has a pretty short hitbox and its pretty slow up close. For Fei long, watch out for those Rekkakyakus (chicken wing) that punish Kikoken, don’t focus attack him, and bait those Shienkyakus (flame kick), I notice you were getting beat by those when you jumped in. So don’t jump in unless you can do a well timed crossup. Use some better block strings, I noticed that you kept trying to get that short short xx EX legs. You could do jabs into st. strong xx Kikoken. Anyways, congrats on winning man.
hehe, yeah I’m a little confused how to go against sim properly, and the guy doesn’t even use sim as a main, he uses a bajillion characters (akuma, rose, ibuki, etc). I never know what to do against sim with chun even more so with Gen. I think in general I kept jumping in, because he wasn’t anti-airing them. idk lol.
But I’ll definitely try to post a video for another critique with a match up I’m more comfortable with. I feel like against sim I’m restricted on what i can and cannot do I keep getting out poked. I’ve just been trying to super or ultra sim’s limbs. But yeah, thanks for the critique.
good stuffs sir… try not to do unnecessary jumps. I did like the way you used those focus attack vs fei.
I didn’t fight diago on stream. That was Air or a ryu player from Calgary named phil. I’m not really sure you understand what it’s like to play on stream in front of 300+ people. It’s really intimidating.
First off I’d like to apologize to all the Chun-li players out there that were disguested with my poor showing on the stream twice at Canada Cup.
Canada Cup is only my second major tournament after picking up Street Fighter back when SF4 came out and I’ve still got mad tournament jitters and playing on the stream definitely doesn’t help that at all.
To be honest I’ve had little to no matchup experience with either Vega or Honda so all I have to work with is general strats and on the fly play and against good players like Jozhear and Mike Ross I could only do so much before I inevitably got walked into a corner and completely blown up.
I’m hoping there will be a stream archive so I can watch those matches and see what all I did wrong.
Just thought I’d throw that out there.
Spooky uploads all live stream matches on his youtube account so you can find it there once he makes those uploads.
the only match I have on the stream is when im playnig rog and tripping him for free…
looking back now… i feel like an azzzhole
Chi Rithy couldn’t make it to Canada Cup, so JS Master went in his place.
Yo don’t worry about what other people think of your game. It’s not like people will judge your skill level with that one match forever. Just digest what you did wrong in that match and think of what you could’ve done better, and then move on. There were tons of matches that were being streamed; I really doubt anyone’s going to remember it. I do understand how players would be intimidated by the fact that they’re being streamed/recorded and play worse/do stupid shit. It’s also easy for other players to critique.
Hell, I looked absolutely free against Gootecks and I don’t even care. I’ll learn the match-up and place higher in future tournaments. I was told that I was doing okay for a bit against Mago, but I crumbled. To a lot of stream monsters, I was just a scrub Chun who was free for both Mago and Gootecks.
EDIT: Magman’s right. You think online in the US is bad? It’s worse in Canada. I lag online against players in the next city over. How faraway? A fucking 15 minute drive.
Amro knows pretty much everything, especially about playing offline and placing at his local scene.
edit : It’s ok that the play wasn’t up to expectations. It’s not anyone fault really. The particular area in Canada seems very far from other scenes and they really won’t be able to play anyone but their own players. It was stated that it was bad as they can’t even play other people in Canada ONLINE because they were too far. I understand how that goes. I would be much better if I could play better people offline regularly, and so would a few others in my area locally.
Maybe I have you confused with someone else? I was watching at like 4am… Sorry if I sound harsh, but it really stood in contrast to the rest of your play which was awesome. I guess it annoyed me because there was finally a good Chun on the stream, and the hazan shus seemed to ruin that. It’s also my biggest pet peeve when watching Chun matches, probably because I used to do that a lot early on and had to work hard to lose the habit. I also know you know better, but calling my mistakes stupid works for me as motivation so I do the same with others.
Again I don’t mean to be rude or disrespectful, I just hate it when an otherwise good player cracks and makes a basic mistake. I cursed Nemo more than a few times during his match against Uryo at Godsgarden, and it doesn’t mean I think he sucks. FWIW, those corner stomps and haneyama style combos to ex legs made my day.
Quit trolling, you know as well as anyone that random hazan shu on Ryu is no good. This isn’t about egos or skill, if I see something wrong I point it out. And I don’t do it by trolling, either.
he was? damn i never know when he´s trolling ;_;

Alrighty then I wasn’t going to put this up but I thought I might as well cause outside of the obvoius things I was hoping maybe you guys could give me some tips on relaxing while playing. I played well enough to almost make it out of my bracket but yeowzas when I got on stream i almost passed out. This is the most nervous I’ve ever been playing sf.
I wanted you to throw a fireball so bad. :_: How come you were blocking so much at the end?
I remember thinking that he was going to jump in the moment I threw a fireball but he never did.

Ultra II?
Oh yeah, I am not experienced using Ultra II vs shotos, but that explains why fireballs looked extra intimidating. I am used to Ladies First in fireball wars because I use Ultra I.
Edit: If it were me, I would be looking for HSU over his fireballs more often. Is that why you were doing so many psychic HSU? It looked like when you were actually buffering HSU, he wasn’t throwing fireballs, and he focused at the points where he thought you might get desperate for damage.
It was probably hard to deal without the satisfaction of punishing a fireball with HK HSU, cuz if you got it at least once you probably would have been more confident and he might have been a little less confident in that situation.
If you noticed, he was feinting a lot of fireballs when he knew you were buffering. You probably could have used those opportunities to fight him mid-range/close-range to fish for Ultra II or a grab instead of looking for a HSU on reaction which proved fruitless more than once.
If I could give you some advice, I’d say work on hiding your HSU inputs inside jab better. You were still noticably crouching when you did jab and buffered HSU. I bet you’d be way more tricky if there were no trace of your inputs because you jabbed.
