Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

It’s not a bad thing to only think about landing the super to begin with, if you do that you’ll make it a habit out of getting full use of the super, then later you’ll stop thinking of landing the super and just do it.
IMO HK Hazanshu, super or hk hazanshu, c.lk, ex legs is a big enough deterrent for a ryu player to not want to throw fireballs at mid range. If you look at how Daigo throws fireballs he is most likely throw a fireball at 3 occasions:

 1. You’re fullscreen away so you can’t do anything about it (unless you have u1)
 2. You’re outside of Ryu’s footsie range and you press a button, having pressed a button he’s kind of certain you won’t try to jump right after, making the fireball almost completely safe (unless you’re aware of him doing this).
 3. You’re walking in on him at close range, you won’t be able to react to the fireball at this range while doing this and jumping at this range makes no sense either, making the fireball almost completely safe.

Since I always strive to push my characters further than what I’m able to see on vids there aren’t that many matchups that I see u2 being more useful than u1 is. Since u1 is comboable on every character from extended legs, the option of having an ultra just because it combos on everyone becomes less lucrative. Also combing into u1 via extended legs doesn’t cost any meter, which in turn means faster meter for her super. While u2 has st.mp x ex legs which works against focus on all characters and always against certain characters (which is ofc good), u1 has ch st.mp, u1 which works on every character AND works from j.hp~hp/u+hp confirms, and it’s possible to do u1 reactively to much more things and situations than it’s possible with u2.
For example if you have good reactions u1 effectively stops things like c.mk x hado (ryu/ken/akuma) b+lk/df+lk/b+mk x fire (Dhalsim) c.mp x spiral/spark (rose) etc, while if you had been using u2 you wouldn’t be able to do these things.

First of all, pick U1. Blankas will just ball you all day without ultra 1. Chun has no natural punish for them otherwise. Learn safe jump setups against Blanka. Do not jump in on him as he has plenty of options to hit you of out of the air, both on the ground and air.

If you block them standing you can sometimes do dash, st.mp to punish it, depends on what angle blanka is at when you block the blanka ball. If his head is towards you it’ll work but otherwise he’ll land too far away (yes, this is extremely gay and Sakura has the same problem with dash, lp sho T.T)

That’s new to me. I’ll have to remember that. I mean, I’ve always done the dash s.mp on reaction, but I was under the impression that I got a hit because I’m hitting him on his startup of a move or a jump. Thanks.

I meant to say that I liked your use of fa lvl 1 on block to maintain pressure. How do you feel it’s your biggest downfall? Btw I agree with you 100% on the not broke don’t fix atitude up to a certain point. I read an interview with Daigo where he attributed his success to following a “formula”. Basically in training a certain matchup he tried to fight as many different players of that character and make mental notes of that players play style and mixups. Then when he enters a tournament he takes the first round ‘off’ to analyze which type of play style that character uses. The next round he destroys them. It’s the ultimate mind fuck.

Very Zen! I tried to make an effort to make the most out of the suggestions and I think they really helped.

When you look at the overall pros and cons of u1 and u2 in the matchup most of the pros and cons depend on your play style. U1 rewards chun li players with good reactions for sure but Comboing directly into it is high risk / low reward because of the high difficulty of that link and the scaling that occurs by the time you’ve done extended legs.

I still like ultra 2 against Ryu for my playstyle.

I meant that my overuse of it does lead to my opponent sometimes retaliating with a dp fadc, which is true, in a lot of cases when they are really on their game. I love Chun’s focus. It’s going to be a sad day when her frame advantage is going to be less in ssfiv ae.

Man, you make it look so easy… I was getting demolished by Ld last night.

Hi everybody,

I’m trying to record matches from Chun Li’s player in Season’s Beatings.
I have recorded Lud VS Choco Blanka, and also one of the team tournament matches where a good chun li’s player “Toi” (i’m not sure) and Lud are playing.
But i have to cut the video of the team because youtube doesnt accept more than 15min. And i’m right now very very tired to do it lol, it’s more than 4am in france i’m gonna die !

Here is my new youtube account : YouTube - KayaneSF’s Channel

Lud VS Choco is available in 15min. But there arent all the matches in the video, Lud played a lot

Good job kayane, nice idea

Happy to see some love for chun li

Bon courage

Here is the video : Lud VS Choco Blanka

Enjoy ! Lud knows perfectly how to deal against Blanka…great inspiration since it’s very rare to find good videos of Chun VS Blanka.

I’m gonna upload other video tomorrow  already 4:30am in france lol i really need to sleep !

Kayane, c claire que tu as vu Henri battre Gamerbee dans le team tourney. faut que tu upload sa aussi

Nann j’ai pas vu …je suis dégoutée. :(((

Lud lose to a rufus in team tournament. His option select ex hazan shu to beat ex messiah kick is not on point yet
Good job anyway, he could “easily” beat this rufus. and the last round was heartbreak.
2 ex tornado in a row follow by ultra1. Seriously ???

Dr Chaos (Akuma) lose to a Chun Li player in team tournament

Burnyourbra try to take Chun Li vs choco too.
Bad choice :frowning:

Getting rid of old vanilla videos on youtube and putting up new ones so I can watch them away from home. They’re mostly for reminders and entertainment value, so if anyone enjoys chun matches, here’s a couple I recently uploaded. Trying to get away from focusing on offense and get back to basics and think more about defense, zoning, spacing… I have a couple old ones up where you can see I’m just way too rushdown and it gets me owned.

…Nothing fancy here, but I think it’s funny that I thought I played really clean here, which is what I was going for… and online (I know why most of you guys despise it) I got so much hate. I was told that chun cheats (?) and that I have no skill, learn to play, all you do is wait for me to come near you then kick and punch lol. I don’t get it.

More combo filled… I think I was sleeping the second round.

I feel as if I need to upload every match I win against Sagat… It used to be a match-up I dreaded.

Guile… always a match-up that I fail if I lose patience for a second

Strangely nervous because this person remembered me from vanilla… lame, I know.

Old video to remind me to crouch tech…

And this is just for laughs… last round of a match against a claw that would not stop running away… how I dealt with it.

Next, I want to get some videos up versus Adon. I need all the help I can get in this match up. I lose to the shittiest Adons… but I don’t feel as if I ever have much to punish or find any openings to get in. I feel like he has insane recovery on his moves or something. I guess I should start with looking at frame data… and I’ve read up on the match-up but it didn’t help much. Any advice for Adon is greatly appreciated.

Well a fair few people have added Vids recently with Ryu fights so I guess I will… Feedback is cool, I know already I don’t Ultra punish anywhere near often enough in fact I’m awful with Ultra full stop lol. I’m currently messing around with my general playstyle as I normally play much less random but I’m trying to find a way to make me seem more random and less easy to read…

Anyway don’t normally add Vids but well… Note I fight this Ryu a lot so he knows my “normal” game very well and generally beats me…

I think you need to play a little more reactive rather than playing with anticipation. I think it was the 2nd match, where you threw out an ultra anticipating a fireball that never transpired. You also did a couple of anticipative hazanshus that could have resulted in hard punishes. Also, I think blockstrings should generally begin with either a c.lp or c.lk (after jump-ins), as it is very difficult to hit confirm from c.mks (unless you’re going for a super). Sometimes instead of dashing, just walk to advance. This is effective when following behind a fireball. The frames in the dash doesn’t allow you to block for a short period, so if the Ryu throws out an ex fireball, you’ll more then likely get tagged then if you were just walking normally. Same applies if he jumps the fireball. You’ll have more time to react to what he does. This isn’t to say that you shouldn’t dash though. Don’t underestimate the power of walking

On a more positive feedback, great use of s.mp and c.hk to stuff his fireball game.

Shit… maybe I should reconsider being rushdown. Great chun. I can’t believe how few counterhits you ate. Your opponents dropped so many opportunities to punish and you REALLY capitalized on their lack of responsiveness.

I don’t think Chun is good enough offensively to really be a rushdown character. The best way to play I think, is to have bursts of rushdown mixed with random pauses to try and bait reversals and be defensive.

Unfortunately, I still rush down with her. =P

the caption said team sbc who’s that?

ninja edit. That was team sdc and this name is Chi-Rithy from Montreal. Go Canada!
