Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

cr.mk is god like. Combos to cr.lk xx ex legs even on normal hit. I don’t think that was in vanilla was it?

The frame adv didn’t change on cr.mk. It’s an akward link for sure but on counterhit it becomes managable I suppose.

u can do that, actually u can do cr.mk, cr/st. lp, cr.mk, super/ex legs

Scampling, if you look your matchs you will see that most of the times you take damage not because your opponent use a good setup but mainly because he punish your choices and obviously those choices are bad

They let you think that you can do something and they punish. The point is you open your guard alone in every matchs.

It’s what i call the strat “How beat a wikipedia chun li”.

Gouken, Rose, Cammy, Guile, Boxer, Ibuki, none of them really attack you, they just wait you cause they already know you will do something.
Take a look closely at your matchs and each time you take damage don’t think you was unlucky but instead that your opponent knowing how to counter you.

Start asking you some questions.
WHY ?

  • You block the fireball of Gouken and you get hit by his rush punch JUST*after.
  • When you jump (or hazan shu) toward your opponent, he manage to counter you with a cross down or a cross up (he jump too)
  • You get punish in following your kikoken
  • Guile act so crazy at max range and do a lot of moves
  • You don’t block an obvious jump in

Etc

Nice concept inerd.
I want to do something like that but in training mode

I got a match in against Air last night in ranked I was happy with my spacing but my reactions and execution were sloppy as hell(<-- nothing new there). ANY advice on my most obvious flaws would be mucho appreciated.

Hey iNerd, keep these videos coming, they are great, and I definitely have picked up a thing or two from watching them. All of the tips you have given me in the past have certainly improved my overall gameplay, and if it wasn’t for you, I would not have gotten this far. It feels like I learn something new each time you give out some advices. and I’m Tassadarmaster btw

Less guessing with hazanshu, try to react first and then hazanshu, if he does focus absorb dash into a combo it will hurt more than if you had landed the hazanshu. You always had your super meter stocked so you should look into how you can get some use out of that against Ryu, like punishing blocked c.mk/c.mk x hado or comboing it after hazanshu.
I also think u1 is a better choice against Ryu than u2 is, but I guess that is a matter of preference, u2 lets Ryu throw too many fireballs imo ^^;

Further to what Skatan has stated, also hit confirm your crouching shorts into ex legs, especially when they are crouching. If you’re not confident of using super after hazanshu, you can also c.lp, s.hp, super after hsu for a slightly easier link. This may only be my opinion, but I also think you focus absorb way too many fireballs for my liking. You could have taken massive damage had he been more aggressive with his offense. Good job with your spacing otherwise.

casuals i recorded last night. just ignore the random yelling at my brother moments, i dont even think the camera picked them up

4:59 Maybe you can try backdashing on wakeup. Also how come you aren’t using U1? Reward is so much better, he juggles, and it’ll shut down his sonic booms. I notice you whiff a lot of Hazanshus, don’t do that, I understand if you’re trying to anticipate a sonic boom but it happened a lot. Remember you have an air grab, that hurts Seth pretty badly. I think you should learn more grab mix ups to create more mind games, that is a pretty big threat once you get close. I also noticed you tried doing cl HK xx Hazanshu, looks like you did it with MK, needs LK. If he’s trying to zone you out I would let him come to you if I were you, that’s kind of Seth’s plan most of the time, you have a lot more health than him so you won’t have to worry about too much.

ahhh just to clarify on the grab thing. he was doing a bit of mashing so i was looking for for the cl hk frametrap

I only remember seeing you try that once in the first video (didn’t get around to watch the second one), you went over him and I’m guessing you did a MK Hazanshu or something, if you don’t know it’s LK Hazanshu after that cl HK.

i meant instead of a tick throw setup i was looking for the frametrap. and yes thanks i do know its lk hazan :stuck_out_tongue:
execution fail for me

Yeah watching the vid makes me cringe. I focused a lot more fireballs then I should have especially after I had full ultra. The only positive was that he got impatient and I had a full ultra to land on him when he jumped in on me. I think he may have been saving his super for the 3rd round because I focused his fireball in range for him to let go of a super but he didn’t. It won’t get me very far if I don’t start practing hit confirms more consistantly. Thanks for the advice.

I’m contantly trying to wipe out randomness from my offense but bad habits are hard to break. I didn’t even think about landing my super. I was in the defensive / counter hit mindset the entire match. Sometimes when I get super I can’t think of anything other than landing it. This was the opposite. I prefer u2 it changes the matchup from don’t throw fireballs when I have back charge to don’t throw fireballs when I’m in hk hansanshu range and don’t jump in carelessly.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I really appreciate it.

I’ve been on the end of giving advice and I guess it’s time for me to eat some constructive criticism and earn some pearls of wisdoms from you guys. Here are a couple of games I’ve had with various Ryus in my own country. Criticise at will.

Wow nice combos in the first vid! I noticed you jumped in quite a bit. You didn’t get anti aired so I guess if it aint broke. Also you didn’t anti air him either.

Better Ryu this time but he didn’t use his fireball zoning very well. He didn’t punish you for jumping in either. You did a good job of controlling the spacing by using your normals and anti airs. Good defense. You caught him more than a few times being really impatient with and dashing in. You basically outplayed him completely.

Nice use of lvl 1 blocked focus attack to maintain pressure. Beware of times when ryu has two bars because a dp fadc will win in that situation. At the end of the day he didn’t punish you for jumping in so you won.

In the first round you managed to out fireball ryu. You jumped in quite a bit but it worked out for you. Second round much of the same except instead of anti airing you he tried to jump up.

I guess overall try and eliminate some of jumping from your offense unless your opponent is clearly unable / willing to stop you from doing it.

Give me some constructive criticism in this vid pls.

GunslingerMeeks nice play.

Raiden, versus Ryu you have the right to jump at max range like GunslingerMeeks did most of the time.
I have the habit to say don’t jump but the jump fromGunslingerMeek are good ones.
The only way Ryu can deal with them is with a late fireball or a stand hk

GunslingerMeek, i feel like those Ryu don’t know the matchup versus Chun li :/. I know wizbore is a good Ryu but :frowning:

@Raiden: Thanks for your feedback. I realise I’m quite ballsy on my attack against the Ryu matchup, but I feel that it is quite effective to take it up to him, because of his ability to control space so well. Sometimes, if you give your opponent less time to think, they tend to react a little slower to what is happening. I do agree with my fa pressure, that it can be my biggest downfall, but I generally do what works against my opponent until they start to figure things out and that’s when I’ll try to adapt.

@c_nul: You’re right. The first guy wasn’t very good, and I knew I did plenty wrong in that third round when I practically gifted him that victory. The other two guys, especially Wizbore, are incredible Ryu players. Whilst that was probably not the best he played, on the flipside, I think I played out of my skin to beat him. I could probably post games where he’s utilised his zoning a lot better and exemplifies Ryu’s superb space control. I mean, I think I did plenty right in all those games, but I just wanted to get an outside perspective to see how else I can improve.

Thanks again for the feedback guys!
