Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

I did dash ultra on his air fireball too at evo… I was suprised he threw a fireball.

The beautiful thing about this match was all he had to do was precharge while jumping back to bait an air fb and when he landed he just did a regular ultra. I don’t know about you guys but punishing fb with u1 takes some getting used to after using u2 in so many matchups. I’m starting to get back into the swing of baiting fb / hiding my charge but it’s not as automatic for me as it used to be.

p.s. how did you do at evo anyways? Did you track your progress or is it all a blur now? the fact that you faced off against tokido peaked my interest.

I did bad at evo. won 5 matches only in my pool. I played tokido in a money match though. he won 3-1

I did bad at EVO. I only won 5 matches and lost a cammy and sim. I played Tokido in a money match, and he won 3-1.

Welcome to Facebook

That match is misleading for U1. He could easily just not throw fireballs and more than likely win.

It’s kind of like how he can still sweep in that match, just at the right time. If Chun is losing, he can sweep all day cuz she has to move forward. Sweep + buffer demon on jumps/hasan-shu can be abused.

But, I did use U1 last time vs Akuma. Just cuz Lud told me to lol.

Haha, damn, c_nul.

Hey so, does anyone have some advice for me vs Dhalsim? Skatan, c_nul, Az, someone? That b+short is insane.

Rewatching your fight against PerfectSin, the only thing you did wrong strategically in my opinion was move forward too much.

I find the Dhalsim match much like the Guile match:
When you have an advantage, press it in order to further your life lead.
When you do not have an advantage, turtle.

Just to clarify, by advantage I mean a knockdown or un-checked jump in. Anything that puts Dhalsim in a mix-up.

It’s a bit easier to turtle against Dhalsim though, as Ultra 1 covers any of the pressure he can put on you.

There’s two aspects to the match that are difficult:

  1. Getting the life lead.
  2. Patiently running out the clock.

1) Getting the Life lead. It’s random IMO. I’ve had the most success with focusing his limbs, releasing a level 1 focus, hitting his extended arm/leg, and dashing back. Less successful(but sometimes useful) is trying to hasanshu his fireballs, and smart jumps.

**2) Patiently running out the clock. ** Ultra 1 is key here. Once he fireball/slides you into the corner, he has got shit for options:

  1. Yoga fire and throw limbs at you. Ultra 1 the yoga fire. Let the limbs hit you. It’s not like they do chip damage. If he gets predictable, focus, release and hit him to frustrate him further.

  2. Yoga Sniper(the instant jump back overhead). Dash Ultra 1.

  3. Throw. Lol. But seriously, this is the only thing he can do in order to hurt you when you’re holding down back. I guess he has that b+lp overhead, but come on.

It’s much harder in practice, and I still lose to Dhalsims now and then. I’ve always felt you’re battling yourself more than the other player in this match-up.

If you play the match lame enough, you don’t ever have to deal with b+short. Because that shit is godlike, I’d rather avoid it.

That’s pretty much the key right there. That, along with maintaining solid spacing (and a life lead).

Yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever had the life lead. It’s one of those things where you don’t really start with the life lead, nor are you supposed to have one so soon.

I mean, Arturo said Chuns used to fuck him up in Japan. I might have to ask him how they did it. But back then, I don’t think far short, b+short was a known counter to focus bull dogging.

I feel like it’s a match where you have to get a lead, or die trying. I know that’s not the only way to play it, but at the start of the round…that might be the only option at some point. Because in theory, if you just stay full screen, the only option is to somehow get ultra off of just focus, then figure out a way to come back. I doubt Chun will be winning on chip at that point. She’ll be in the corner and have less meter for sure.

But if Chun gets in that one time and does some damage, it is definitely the best plan to just chill. You’re right, Dhalsim players can’t really do anything once you just sit in the corner. They’ll usually try to mix it up with low strong/fierce and sniper, but that doesn’t do much other than build meter/land a hit or two.

I missed a few ultra opportunities. I think only one of them (the EX fireball when I was walking back to the corner) was the real one I missed. The others I let go of back like after a jump in. Will look to hold back for longer.

just curious but what is it that chun is using to bait ex messiah’s so that he goes over her? Just wondering from those vids.

It’s a close cr.fp

Nice Chun fights.

hi guys this is my first street fighter and i only had this game for 2 weeks. I used to use Bison but im playing with the standard 360 controller and i think characters heavy on charge really arent as good w/o a stick. I tried Chun out and she doesn’t seem bad at all without it. I spent about 5 mins with her in training mode and I got to C rank with her in a few hours… (took me a week to reach that with Bison + my win rate is much lower with him…) is she S-tier with like 80-20 MUs on most of the cast? o.O She stuns so well…

well here my playlist of her vids are from oldest to newest. my chun two days old tho

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

advice welcome1

im so glad they have a great female fighter in this game, im a primary smash player and they nerfed Peach real hard from Melee to Brawl. yayz

i dont play much chun anymore but, the only chun v arts sim in japan that i saw had the chun focusing like a madman… kinda like skatan versus yagami… it was giving art trouble… it was the only thing really giving art trouble from what i saw but it was enough to get the chun some rounds even though art won it.

anywho you’ve probably seen this before, but maybe now it will be of more use? i always say learn from the best… and shizza is the best chun at the sim matchup that ive seen so far. (ark impulse is quite good at it as well)

what should i say, he did it to himself

Isn’t this ironic? By uploading it aren’t you taunting as well? And if it was a laggy match then it doesn’t matter who won right?
