If SRK had a nodding smiley, I’d be using it right now. :bgrin:
ok this criticism might be a little too harsh but pls know that i’m only trying to help you, dont take this out of context and think that we aint cool anymore, cause we are
your playing very… scrubby. (so was the blanka player for that matter…)
srry but it’s the truth. i’ll go into what you can do to alleviate that though:
you almost NEVER block on wakeup. blocking on wakeup should be your go to response for most occasions… if i see someone playing like you do i’ll just sweep you 5 times in a row to let you know that block low HAS to be an option that you make use of. you will get thrown for this sometimes, but throws actually do less than what your leaving yourself open to by not blocking. however throwing someone on there wakeup is VERY risky, because of the threat of wakeup reversal and ultra… so by blocking alot you make them do something risky by going for the throw. this benefits you greatly in the long run, when it comes to risk versus reward scenarios.
you dont seem to have any sort of a plan or strategy versus this blanka:
you dont know if your playing to keep him away, or if your trying to get in, or if your trying to fake one strategy then switch to another.
the strategy to use versus blanka is to keep him away.
you get hit by slide WAY too much and your op wasnt exactly being unpredictable with it.
crouch if your in slide range and playing neutral games, then mixup between backdashing out of slide range, jumping in, or dashing in. since the strategy is to keep him out it should be obvious that you should be dashing away 90% of the time in this position. if you dont know slide range go into training mode and find out where it hits AT MAXIMUM RANGE. once you find this out heres a little info that will do you well:
blankas cant react slide versus your HP kikoken when at 70% or less of maximum slide range (they have to anticipate which is something they cant stand doing)… they have a hard time react sliding versus ex kikoken when at 95% or less of max slide range, and its basically impossible for them at 80% max slide range or less to react slide versus ex kikoken.
another thing to know is that a decent blanka wont slide at you at anything less than 60% slide range as thats pretty muxh guaranteed ass reaming for any character versus blanka.
and last but not least, you jump from POOR distances… you jump way too much in the first place, but beyond that you dont seem to have a good feel on ranging them at all…
there 2 ranges that chun should be looking to jumpin at :
crossup range.
and regular range.
outside of regular jump range isnt great range to be jumping at (we all make this mistake, but the point is to minimize the amount you do this)
oh yeah one last thing: CALM THE FUCK DOWN!
you seem to want to out aggress your op… dont worry about that at this point in time tho… learn your ranges first, then you can get into the aggro style of play.
srry if that was too harsh. we still buddies tho. you cool peoples man and i feel your frustrations almost if i was the one playing, I WANT YOU TO GET BETTER!!!
so suck it up and STOP MASHING!!! (thats my last piece of advice)
your better than letting yourself get so flustered into mashing out shit.
I BELIEVE IN YOU!

Good coverage Dime, I think you summed it up perfect.
alucard - gotta be more aggressive than that vs Blanka to snatch the lead, whipper snapper xD.
ON A SIDE NOTE
Here’s some things to look at

It only works this way against wide hit box characters, but it’s pretty much useless against Gief and Rog…I’ll test Rufus later. I don’t even know if Honda’s hitbox is like the others but I’ll try, as well as Abel. I mainly use this against Sagat, courtesy of Sensei-Chun-Nuki.
Much better showing than last time, I felt you were keeping pressure on him after knockdown much better this time. I still don’t think it’s enough yet, although its understandable because wakeup electricty seems very strong at first, but it’s actually very vulnerable to well timed crossups that hit the opposite side of his hitbox. I like the risk/reward of going for crossups against Blanka, his most damaging option does bugger all, compared to what you can land if you get the crossup. If he goes for ultra you take tiny damage and he goes to the other end of the screen ^^. Something to practise in training mode. (Also note that straight jump ins can work with jf.lk if they go to electricity)
Another thing I noticed is you were trying to chase him pretty hard, which sometimes ended with alot of punishment for poor Chun-Li. I liked you using Focus attack. It didn’t always pay off, but you landed it enough to justify using it. You really need more damage options after you land it though, at one point you could have ultra’d him after a lvl.3 (I think?) fa, instead you threw him (Although you ultra’d his ultra this round, most Blanka’s won’t activate ultra full screen). I’m pretty bad at that myself, so I’m being a bit of an armchair critic -.-. I’m not consistent with crumple->cr.fp->m.sbk, so if i get a lvl.1 counter hit or lvl.2 crumple I follow with fa lvl.1->dash->jump stomps (low to the ground, good for getting out of corners); or just straight cr.short->ex.legs bnb.
Your use of ultra was pretty sharp. I liked that you were trying to punish several different things with it, and sometimes it paid off and sometimes not, but at least you went for it and the ultra came out ^^. Desperation ultra is tempting, but it’s much more effective if you buffer the ultra during knockdown and then see if he wants to meaty you. Alot of players can’t resist the temptation of trying to meaty-chip damage for the win. It would have been pretty hard to win those rounds anyway, but don’t count yourself out till K.O.
Lastly, if he’s going to slide against kikoken alot, mix in some focus charging… I think Dime_x pointed out how similar the animation is to fierce kikoken, so you can bait them into it; just release as soon as you see Chun-Li flash.
this isnt really a helpful vid but it could be my eyes playing tricks on me but at the start of the match did chun li’s d/f lk beat out vipers spark i believe it was the medium spark but just want to confirm this.

Threw these up since there was a lot of talk vs. El Fuerte. Feel free to criticize. I am thick skinned and we are all just here to learn, so I don’t mind. We all need to level up for EVO and Devestation…
Horrible vid quality but you can still see what’s going on.

What the …
So it doesn’t matter what side of a character that move lands on, as long as it lands it is treated as a crossup? I wonder if that’s how it was intended or if this is a glitch.
Regardless, nice find.
@xero15: Yes, I believe that’s what happened. Very unorthodox response to Viper’s spark though.
Good matches. Though, I feel you could have done a lot better if you weren’t so stationary. I’m pretty sure Fuerte players just want people to stay in one place, especially charge characters, they will look for it.
I find myself usually dashing back a lot, dashing under shenanigens and playing really evasive. If he tries to chase me (which he will for the most part) then I’ll try and stop it with some poking and close range mind games. If you see him EX from afar, just run away from it, keep doing it until he burns meter. He absorbs too many hits to try and punish it, and if you get close he will mix it up.
I don’t even care about being cornered in this match up, Fuerte really has no advantage from the corner to mid screen, the only problem is that you can’t back dash or jump away anymore.
That’s just my look on it though, you’re doing just fine.
edit: To me, it’s all about focusing and back dashing at the right times and punishing him hardest, while capitalizing on your offensive mixup situations to obtain damage that way.
I forgot to mention the purpose it serves. All it does is have the Sagat player trying to input the uppercut the wrong way for a while. It still hits as a cross up, but then you land in front of them. Very easy to combo if it hits.
i appreciate all the responses. dime and everyone don’t worry about calling me a scrub…if it’s the truth, it has to be said for me to get better. i always listen to players much better than me since they are the ones i can learn from.
feel free to be as extreme and harsh as necessary to make the point. i’m gonna mess around in training mode to get used to blanka’s cr.fp and also try and come up with a mental way to time crossing him up on wakeup, if he does the electricity.
sf4 is still new to me but i feel like i’m slowly starting to know what i’m doing…very very slowly. i also don’t exactly mash buttons, i know it may appear like that but every time i did the kicks i wanted it, except maybe like once. it was just stupid to do the kicks (like i thought ex kicks beats blanka electricity…and i was wrong.) i’m still learning all the priorities, so sometimes the stupid things i do are just a little experiment for me
i’ll try and be less scrubby in the next gameplays i record, and use all the valuable advice here from you guys. maybe dime will smile if he watches me be patient enough to block on wake-up or something and counter
Man I wish I could post some of my games to be called a scrub and evaluated. =(
Here are some online casuals with a beastly Rufus… after facing this guy and Blitzman in a tourney, Rufus has become my arch rival… I HATE HIM. Anyways here they are:
Sorry about my older (yes older) brother… he’s being a *** with his random comments in the video =/
lol finally got some vids up, these are from 2 7 09.
chun v honda and blanka:

another one of me and ironfist, i got lucky here cause i caught him dashing even tho i meant to punish his fireball:

this is one of the few games i was able to beat kryo… this is how NOT to play viper v chun if your the viper player… i’ll upload some matches of him really kicking my ass in a bit:

Man that’s the thing that gets me. You see how hard you worked in those matches, and he really didn’t have to do shit besides land an uppercut to your 2 combos etc. Oh well that’s the way the game is.
You gotta be careful with those throw bait sweeps though. Sagats over here just jump it with strong and combo. He didn’t seem too familiar with Sagat at the time…he got really scared of you when you were near him. I guess there’s nothing like an EC Sagat…I guess…
I guess back in February it was also hard to tell a tight and loose string…you liked to loose string and throw him a lot.
Good videos though, but we gotta step it wayyyy up if we’re going to dominate Sagat with Chun. Including myself, I tend to forget things in matches and get clowned on for it.
Was that ex.sbk in the last round of the first match accidental? Would’ve been really funny if he made a comeback after that ^^. I noticed you opened one round with kikoken and he guessed right and got a free jump-in. I don’t really see any advantage to using kikoken right at the start, I’m sure that was just a momentary lapse though. Really appreciating the vs Rufus vids, thanks; also your brother didn’t seem too bad ^^.
Thanks for the video’s dime_x… I’d love to see some more recent video’s to see how your Chun game has changed since then.
yeah… i hear you on the sweep abuse from me… people have been saying that for the longest…
i do it purposefully though… i’m trying to get people to jump stupidly at me… they’re bait for fa’s and jumps… but your right about them being really dangerous… my use of them is really just opponent specific, if they like to jump i wont be sweeping much at all… if they dont know that theres an up forward motion on the joystick then i’ll abuse sweeps till the cows come home…
and yeah i was loose stringing him pretty much all day, i do that when i need to be offensive… its harder to detect the pause> throw when your getting loose stringed than when all the strings are tight. but yeah your right i was being WAY predictable with it.
i NEVER throw when i tight string fools… tight strings are when i’m in save to super and dont throw mode. thx for bringing that up… you just told me about a pattern i didnt know i had (consciously)
i’ll be posting up some more vids as well of me gettin straight owned by kryos viper… i hate that matchup…
-edit… me gettin butt fucked by ivans loony ass c.viper… what am i supposed to do in this matchup??? sigh…

I can’t say I’ve fought a Viper THAT good, but I’ve had good matches with competent Vipers and what works for me is taking to the air more often. Neutral j. RH and backwards-jumping target combo will beat out most of the things they would bait (that I know of–you’d have to be careful about the range you’re neutral-jumping for fierce thunder knuckles, though). Also, REVERSAL EX LEGS. It is the best “get the fuck off me button” you could ask for in this match-up, since Viper will be pressuring you a lot. Even regular short-lightning legs will work for interrupting block strings (which is something I discovered completely by accident when mashing out low-tech option for tic-throws). And a far-range s. RH will beat flamekick on start-up.
Can’t say how well this would work against a madman like Kryo but they’re just some fundamentals I’ve been building for the match-up
Dear lord, that Viper was insaaane.
well it scored a knockdown so thats got to count for something plus i havent actually fucked with df lk but it looks like shit could juggle off it maybe if it hit a certain way.
You can when it counter-hits. SOnly on counter does it have that floaty knockdown. Stomps juggle if you do it near a corner.
yeah…
this is what i think about people thinking shes the hardest character to play in the game
that distinction goes to fuerte, chun then sim then viper.
