Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

I don’t like to ever talk down about someone else’s play…but that was hard to watch.

I’m betting that chun was a new player who had no idea how to face SIM, and he probably choked up a bit.

It looked like he got a bit panicked and rushed.

Er, or he just might not play the game at all. That 30% win ratio is an eyeful. Why was it even posted?

I tried landing the crossover lk then instant stomp without crossing over again
probably a hundred times last night in the dojo, but timing it so you can j.hk after
the stomp is simply too hard. That would make a mean ass combo challenge.
Cross over lk > instant stomp > j.hk > cl.hk > ex LL

^ That would be insane if it was possible.

Imagine:

Cross over lk > instant stomp > j.hk > cl.hk > fierce kikoken XX super

Here’s my match against Gootecks at L.A. Riots.

We’re both in losers here. Winner of this match fights Keno.

A lot of people wonder why i threw those ultras out. Just look at the situation (clock / life lead) each time i do it.

My reaction at the end of round 2 game 3 is because i had a feeling he would go for chip and was gonna ultra but decided not to at the last moment. This is also why i ultra’d in the third round. I would have been more upset if i didnt ultra and he chipped me than if i threw the ultra out and guessed wrong.

Kai’s laugh at the end of the match is classic.

Entertaining match. Good work!

The description of that video is hilarious too.

I really don’t care what people call it. If you ultra on guess and consistently land it 100%, then who the fuck cares what people say? It’s annoying the way they titled that video and how lame some of the comments made were. I don’t necessarily agree with the way you play or do the same myself, but I sure as fuck am nowhere near as good a chun as you.

Kudos, fuck the haters.

The use of headstomp is really awesome.

I really don’t think you have to explain yourself, I thought it was awesome, there is only so much you can do against Rog, especially when they sit on a lead. Some of those Ultra’s where a bit random, but I actually feel that was a good moment to do in that final round.

Dude, who cares? You won… That last Ultra was very clever no matter what they said.

PS : You could have Ultra reversal for free on that Turn around punch lv5

Ah I saw this video yesterday and reminded me of the days when I first started playing SF4 and coming across a random Sim online. But yeah, that was really hard for me to watch.

@Whawhat - Great match! LOL “It’s Gootecks time!” made me laugh.

Nice video!

I could NOT stop laughing when I saw the tag list for that clip.

“ragetecks” =

Wow man, GREAT match, the intensity lol. Ryan’s facial expressions, more lol! At some point he was going for dashpunches after jumpbacks several times in a row. I was like “if only you neutral jumped those times”. Also saw you didn’t go for single j.hp into low, or empty jumps, those coulda gotten you more damage after throws. Made it less intense, but then it wouldnt’ have been so much fun to watch

Just to echo everyone else’s acclaim and support – good job overall keeping it close. Each battle was very intense; the spacing and punishment was mostly on point. However, as I am sure you know – those wakeup Ultras were not the wisest thing to you, but I understand the where you are coming from with the time factor. Each time you did it, I couldn’t help but think of Mike Ross’ early hopeful punishment setups back when the game first launched. Also, I am surprised you didn’t try to punish Rog using st. fp when you were successful with blocking turn punches. Also Gooteck’s expressions were totally LOL.

I tried alot of empty lows against Keno the match before and kept gettin thrown :annoy:

The reason why i didnt do single fierce is because i was option selecting in case he backdashed.

Love the baits on Guile at the end of Rounds 1 & 3. Had him so scared of the Hasans that he was able to setup the Ultra. Some basic crouch/walk forward baiting after some aerial shenanigans scared Guile into a whiffed Flash Kick.

Parabellum - I’m seeing a lot of stomp setups in newer Chun vids as well. Very underutilized move that can lead to some nasty mixups. I’m thinking Capcom put these in to remind players of her air game in the old school SFs. I too have great trouble with stomp execution because of the inputs.

Shizza - Congrats on getting the win in that really intense match with Gootecks. You could clearly see Gootecks’ frustration while you kept the Iceman motif lol. Liked the delayed EX legs after FA at the 8:00 mark. Great thought process doing this after following up FA’s with Hasans/strings all match. And yes players should be able to see that going for the Ultra with the time/life scenario was a good chance to take.

Aside from the second round, Saw beasts this really good rufus. I learned cl.hk owns the second part of the ex / non ex mesiah kick on block. The second match he’s up against a Rog that basically capitialized on any and every mistake with big damage. One thing I will definately take to the lab from that part of the vid was Saw’s block string.6:40 j.hk (blocked) > cr.lk (blocked) > cr.lp (blocked) > cr.fp canceled into kiko. You just don’t see anyone doing that.

I don’t use that string because the spacing is not what I’d prefer, and DP will go RIGHT through the kiko.

I would rather use something like

j.fierce > c.jab x2 > c.short > st.strong > backdash > Kiko

Puts chunner out at her ideal poke range before the kiko so it can’t be DP’d through, but still keeps the pressure on. If they jump the kiko from that range, standing forward or standing fierce will knock them out of the air.

Thoughts?

I just generally live by the “never ever fireball from that close” (unless its been hit confirmed) philosophy with chun.

Good shit. The ending was defintely hype. I wish I could have been there.

I love seeing Chunners be successful. I hate it when any Chun loses. So good shit.

Some tricks I’ve never seen to add to my bag.

I see what your saying it’s not really practical againsts shoto’s who spam DP. If you land the cr.hp it cancels into the kiko can a shoto slip a dp between the the cr.hp and kiko? I think the weakness would be between the cr.lp and the cr.hp wouldn’t it?

Yes, if you hitconfirm the c.firece you are fine.

But if its blocked, and you STILL kiko, you can eat dp/ex messiah/etc…

Since that cancel is so fast, I’m not really able to hitconfirm it, so I avoid using it.
