Chun-li Video/Discussion Thread

I’ve seen c.LK, c.LP, c.HP xx HS which is a decent loose string. I see no advantage of comboing a c.HP into kikouken though unless for some fancy FA cancel combos.

I guess that’s why I don’t see many people doing it :stuck_out_tongue:

Edit: speaking of hi-level play I found a video of what I consider to be the best chun in NA! He placed fifth in the road to nec tournament recently. Here’s a video of him DOMINATING a super high level Guile. I think I know where magman gets his strategies from now.

Heh. Backdashing after that string is only effective if you suspect the opponent will respond with a reversal. Otherwise, it’s best to follow out with kiko sans the backdash; hitconfirm or not. It’s all about pressure.

Of course, as you already stated it’s best to avoid following through with this against characters who possess special moves/supers that can punish Kiko on reaction (i.e. Chun’s Super). Gotta embrace taking risks at times bro.

Your method is good if your intentions are to play safe 24/7 which I assume is your general preference.

Radient: LOL

pretty much NO strings are safe in sf4… not only true for chun but for the entire cast. so you just have to mix up your poke strings.

generally my pokestrings up close with no knowledge of opponent are:

weak attack x whatever, > hitconfirm (throw if blocked)

same thing but stutterstep after a random amount of weaks into a walkup version of the same thing this time time trying to coax the counterhit ie short short, walkup short short walk up short >throw.

throw in hasan shus when having gotten some knowledge of opponent.

cr.lp > st.mp

cr.lp x 1 or 2 > cr.fp xx lk hasan shu

weak attacks x whatever >st.mp xx mp kikoken or st.mp >st.hk.

weak x whatever > walk backwards assess situation.

i also like to throw in sweeps after weak attacks until they start to focus, but at advanced level i cut that shit out and just do walk backwards or the occasional st.mp.

i NEVER cancel st.mp into hasan shu though. well once in awhile but, as shizza can tell you guys, that is pretty much chuns weakest string… he shits on me almost everytime i attempt it.

midrange poke strings are pretty much random almagations of st.mp, forward dashes, jumpins, st.hk’s, and kikos… based on opponent and matchup and level of pwnage both for and against.

That has been the goal of my training for some time now. I think I have developed a decent rushdown/mixup game, but where I REALLY need to improve is in learning how to be safe at nearly all times.

Once I feel like I can understand and apply that concept really well in all matchups, then I’ll begin the process of tuning and tweaking my game to balance safe play vs rushdown etc…

Thanks for the feedback!!!

Two videos of a little known chun named bobby in Japan I like. Nice execution of what I consider to be insane corner combos for big damage in both matches.

That was painful to watch.

Then funny.

Then just kinda sad.

a true rush down :china:

Poor poor ryu :stuck_out_tongue: That was a brutal beat down. Nuki is pretty fuckin amazing!

he that crounching fierce cancel to round house legs is good pressure tactic
:stuck_out_tongue:

Awesome. Nuki was going for those dizzies! Must abuse crouching Fierce > LL more!

its hard though cus u have to buffer it

Yeah I got knocked out by Gootecks, I finished 7th or something.
I did fairly well against him when he came to our gathering spot in stockholm, Dragon’s Lair, I think it went 10-5 in his favor.
I didn’t feel like I was playing like I should have at that tourney, which was a nice wakeup call since I’ve been sleeping on getting the necessary game time down lately. So now I’ve upped how much I need to play and gonna try to jump up a level or two somehow.
I have no qualms though to losing to Gootecks and Yagami (DH) since I know both of them are strong players, it was awesome getting to play talent from outside the country.
Singapore’s Dhalsim was really good btw!

Oh SLINKUN, wonder if he’s the SLINKUN from EC guile. Remember him coming to WC for a visit. His guile is very clutch. Good to know he’s still playing.

Yup he’s still playing

You’re welcome fellow chunners…

Its all pretty stuff but none of it is too worth it really.

Except that the infinite also works on blanka.

I literally laughed untill my stomach hurted. lmao

Speaking of which. Im going to battlefield arcadia 9 next sunday. Watch the stream! I figured I should go and rep chun since smoothcat doesnt go. and we all know smoothcat is the only chun from nyc. lol.

ooh sht cool i will finally have a high lvl chun to talk to and give tips in rl Now i cant wait for bfa9 (I’m going)

Damn… had no idea he was from NY – now I wonder if I actually know him IRL from CF. I mained Chun hardcore there; with exception to 3s – which I was never really even decent at.

Best of luck to ya - rep her well cuz uh… we know that guy “dominating” Guile won’t.

I got you sir

I will not lose…unless its sagat…im so free to sagat :frowning:

Edit:

I’ll also see if dayasha wants to money match on stream. That should be fuuuuuuuuun. Haha
