Chun Li General Thread: Blue Jade

She keeps getting hotter and hotter, except that awkward puberty phase of SF4. That one sucked.

Well, SF4 Chun is way hotter than MVCI Chun…seriously who is the art director for that game?
How did this pass?

MvCI just ruined that argument

Aw man, what the f*** happened to my waifu?!?!?!

I actually don’t really like the way she looks now, 3rd strike and alpha/zero were the best iterations imho

I like her in SFV.

She’s got something that throws me off, but I cannot pinpoint what, in the normal sprite. and in closeups she’s got ghostface (think ending round in CA)

Oh come on dude… SFV Chun is as close to perfection of the character aesthetically as they come.

I’m picky, I stay away from KArin Mika and Cammy because I don’t like how they look aswell.

SFV Chun is best looking Chun by far.

Spoiler

From now on they should copy SFV Chun and paste to every future version of Chun for ever. Its not just the face, im saying whole package: posture, movement, animations, everything is perfect. IMO

PS: Honestly if they dont fix MVC:I Chun im not buying the game, fuck that disrescpectful shit.

Amen to all of that!

MOV gets top 8 at CEO, but the stream shits the bed during his matches and apparently Capcomfighters either can’t or won’t upload those particular matches to their youtube channel. Fuck that.

While the stream was crapping out, the only thing I could pick up on that I haven’t tried to add to my own game yet was how well he was using cr. MK buffered into SBK in neutral/as a counter poke. Getting meterless knockdowns off of stray hits in the mid-range is huge.
Hopefully he does well Sunday night AND the stream stays stable during the matches.

Also James Chen incorrectly commented that Chun’s cr. LK got buffed to 3f (it was always 3f startup) and not the fact that it can cancel into lightning legs now, which is what people are getting caught by a lot on her wakeup when they try to bait or whatever. Cancelling that into v-trigger makes it safe or plus on block and a combo/potential momentum changer on hit. Even with a 3f jab in season one, that was not something she could really use on wakeup like that.
Unfortunately, it’s his misinformation that’s out there now instead of the real information. That irks me a little bit (like in season one when Pie Sci kept saying instant air legs was +3 on block which made it out to be more powerful than it really is). Is there ever going to be a commentator that actually knows what they’re talking about when they speak on Chun?

No one knows stuff about Chun sadly.

A friend told me that MOV said that Chun is 5-5 across the board except against Sim and Rog. I don’t know how to feel about that and i don’t agree honestly. How can you tell me that Ibuki is an even MU ? How about Karin ?

I can’t see any universe where these two are even.

I dont think that Chun is bad character with all the tools she has, but she doesnt seem to fit in this type of game as SFV(season 2/2.5) is. So many times i feel like i outplayed my opponent but somehow im the one that lost. I wish i was better at understanding game meta.

Watched those CEO Chun Li matches that show ā€œChun is still okā€ since MOV got to Top 8 with her. Except they really don’t. If you haven’t done so already, save yourself from the disappointment and don’t watch MOV’s matches. MOV lost both matches without taking a single game. Balrog comeback is just plain ridiculous, and Chun’s heavy execution requirements are still visible in the tournament level when Chun Li mains seem to drop combos and specials with considerably higher percentage than any other character.

I think Chun Li can actually counter Ibuki in a sense that the side switching doesn’t really work well with Chun Li. Of course, Chun can’t compete in damage output against pretty much any character. I have no idea why MOV would say she’s mostly 5-5, when he lost as much against Akuma, and Akuma is mid tier in my books. Makes me wonder why it is so that some characters can link three EX moves to a single combo, while it is not possible for others.

Getting depressed by watching the matches even if I haven’t played the game for two months is new for me. Yeah, they definitely stripped off the ā€œChun Li armorā€ of Season 1.

MOV’s run up to the top 8 was impressive, but he completely came apart after actually reaching it. He handed PR Rog his ass, but was absolutely destroyed against Smug. It was very disappointing to see him fall, and fall HARD, after achieving top 8. And I don’t now what he’s smoking when he says she goes 5-5 with practically all the cast. I think we need to get comfortable with the fact that Chun isn’t getting anything in season 3. Everyone keeps fucking saying she’s fine!

MOV played scared to me. He tried to be too reactant or defensive.
But truthfully even Yamada has a far different approach when he isn’t playing random people. The aggressiveness he has against ā€œRandom CFN fellowā€ is a heck of lot more in your face and throwing caution to the wind versus when I’ve seen him play Tokido for example.

Chun has too many tools that aren’t really viable in my opinion.
Air Legs - useless since season 2
VSkill - useless
No brain dead specials to spam on block like other characters
St. Hp is a joke
St. Hk whiffs too much
Thanks to DP reversals being tweaked F+Hk meaty setups that use to beat DPs clean - gets wrecked.
Throw range is a joke

Yet I still main her…

What meaty setups are people using in 2.5?
After SBK or Ex Legs I’m dashing up (once) and doing St. Mp, Cr. Mk xx working on quick rise only sadly.
I use to have setups that covered all the options but they aren’t as viable in 2.5 it seems.
I swear the hidden nerfed F+Hk it feels off to me.

Usually, for Season 2.5 meaty sets ups, I usually:

  • Dash fwd, St. Mp, Cr. MK, SBK combo
  • Throw
  • Bk. Hp (hoping for a Crush Counter)
  • Shimmy (into Fwd/Bk Mp xx VTrigger or Throw)
  • Fwd. Hk

Chun-li’s meaty setups aren’t great, especially with her low damage output. But she’s got a few she can use to keep some pressure on.
