Chun Li General Thread: Blue Jade

That patch note comes off as trolling. That they dare to claim they are raising the difficulty of piano input because they cared about mashers and wanted to protect them from accidentally inputting lightening legs, is downright insulting.

I have said it before and will say it again. Game balancing by the devs is surprisingly subjective - knowingly or unknowingly. Chun’s case seems motivated by a knowing mind: a pervert, narrow-minded individual who is thirsty of vengeance. Maybe Capcom CEO’s 14 year old son has something against Chun, or some other loser among the dev team harbored deep-seated hatred against Chun because his favorite pro player kept losing to Chuns.

Nothing else can explain the degree Capcom went about disabling Chun. In any case it is foolish for anyone to main her, and if this is how Capcom balance the game there is no point playing it either. I will badmouth this game and Capcom in my tweeter (I have a decent following) and do my part to hurt Capcom’s bottom line.

You aren’t wrong, lol
I thought it was a dumb addition to begin with. The made it motion based because they claimed it was hard to piano/slide for noobs
I can Cr. Hp xx LLeg loop all day in USF4, I couldn’t do it day 1 or even week 1 it took over a month to really get down with off and on practice
So why bring “rapid tap” back as a “look it’s a buff!!!” mindset

IALegs into Cr. Lp, St. Mp, Cr. Mk xx SBK should still today be doable at least in Vtrigger with any WAY inconsistent V-skill hops to do it
They nerfed damage across the board and then took away her most damaging bnbs. The Cr. Lp nerf still pissed me off today 4 frames and more push back
while Balrog and others can just sit right in front of you and continue to hit the same button over and over again and get 2-3x more damage off a confirm

I’m learning Ibuki and so looking forward to Marvel, which I’m sure Chun will be in.

It just saddens me to see all the top chun li players get bodied by everyone else, all we needed it was back was her 3 frame cr. jab and I would of been like “capcom you are the best, i love you.” The way the top tier got nerfed compare to chun just pisses me off.

The patch was a joke and im not even a chun li main. Im afraid this might stick around until CPT ends which that’s a lot to ask for some people. No jump back OS and grey life still the same? So the game will be even more rushdown heavy and most of the cast still have throw loops in the corner it’s embarrassing honestly. I get it that this patch was mostly a quick fix and not a major one but still Rog, Laura virtually get away scot free. They simply need to revert Ryu,Alex,Nash,Chun li back closer to their former season 1 selfs, not entirely the same but still closer to that. Atleasy they didn’t go ham on nerfing Urien,Rog,Laura and a few others so it seems they learned from that mistake but still they could of done more

Poor Ricki. I find it hard to believe it’s just player ability that is bringing her down so much as some people seem to be trying to push.

Ricki placed 2nd at Capcom Cup, she’s good lol.

Capcom made sure to put a stop to her having a chance of showing it though lol. Guess she finally had enough http://twitter.com/HelloKittyRicki/status/842823049330278400

Aaaand Ricki quits Chun Li to nobody’s big surprise. :s Haven’t seen anything from MOV, but GO1 already went to Guile. It’s heartbreaking to see these guys go, but that’s the right call if you want to stay in the tournaments.

Makes me wonder who Chun Li pros would go next to? If it’s someone like Cammy, the results could be quite hilarious for all the wrong reasons if I’m still in the scene when that happens. Sort of interested to see the “no-skill Chun mains” ratings after that.

Also, I like Terrence’s Chun from Final Round 20 in the match vs PR Rog.

It’s the second last match starting from 2:54. I keep telling myself the better player won but I’m apparently not a very convincing person. The match between Smug and GO1 was also quite interesting to see (“Chun can link three c.LKs!” - Cry me a river, that’s actually a risk with piano input). MOV vs LI JOE seemed less decisive to me. Not sure if MOV was at his peak that day.

The only thing I disagree with the mashing thing is that Chun got singled out with it. Why not have all 3f normal characters commit an unsafe special if they mash =) ? Doesn’t matter to me, I could go either way - Chun’s piano input change has definitely cleaned my input and made me better because of it. But the fact remains that this is Capcom’s take on the biggest problem with Chun…

If you decide to go public, bad mouthing is a double edged sword. You’ll definitely increase the publicity of the issue, but also that free (even if bad) publicity is still free publicity. Short “Stopped Street Fighter 5 - balance issues” could be worse. But I’m not trying to put words to your mouth, it’s your call.

I appreciate that she still felt optimistic about Chun, but I already knew Chun was toned too much at this point and that Ricki would drop her. I knew the she’s still high tier thing wouldn’t last.

There will most likely still be a few asian chuns and maybe filipinoman puts in some work, but there’s better characters out there now.

I saw the matches I missed from Ricki this past weekend and even though things are definitely harder for her, she wasn’t playing optimal. Lots of situations where damage was left on the table, when you really can’t afford to do that in S2. It seemed like she was mostly sticking to S1 tactics/combos and not making the most out of what changed for S2. At least the matches weren’t clean sweeps, but if Cammy is who she’s thinking about switching to, then that’s a smart decision.

As far as anyone who wants to stick it out with Chun this season (like me) take that as a lesson to fully capitalize as much as possible when you get an opening or punish opportunity. Rewatch them if you can, and you might notice where things could’ve gone differently.

I’ve continued to plug away with Chun in S2 and put emphasis on finding counter hit setups.
I’m curious what the DP change will create, in theory and watching vesper’s video they should still work but its hard to tell until you have it in your hands.

Set up I like. (will lose to back rise unless you delay slightly)
After L,M,H SBK dash up F+Hk - Counter hits then go Cr. Lp, St. Mp, Cr. Mk xx SBK/EXLegs/CA
Quick: F+Hk, whiff Cr. Lk, Cr. Lp, St. MP will beat out buttons and score a counter hit which you can then link Cr. Hp
This sets up tons of options as Cr. Hp is easily hit confirmable with specials and if they block you can use Cr. Mk, B/F Mp, B+Hp as block string optons.

Back Rise with slight delay F+Hk, Cr. Lp xx EX Legs

With the buffs to Fang, Chun is now the worst character in the game.

Thanks Capcom! You lied to us all and showed you care more about viewer ratings than game balancing.

I mean, I can understand you have to make those profits. Unfortunately, when you do that, you screw over people in the process. That’s life. That’s business.

At the end of the day, Capcom said Chun Li is bad for business.

An attempt to release my SFV frustration creatively:

Yugioh! man it has been years since i played Yugioh. Ah the good ole days but yeah that is a pretty bad trap card man

Since I’m new to SF franchise, out of curiosity:

How does Chun reduce the viewer ratings? Do you mean that footsies are uninteresting to watch for those who do not play?

Second curse of Chun? Is this First Curse related to SFIV by any chance?
Otherwise the trap card hits the spot and describes quite closely how I feel. Great effort!

There’s also the unshakable feeling in the air that if by some wonder Chun gets the necessary tools somewhere around Season 3 and starts to succeed, she’ll get nerfed down again.

I think viewers bought into this idea that Chun was OP season 1 (due to other pro players, commentators, etc.), so they didn’t want to see her on streams.

I think most of the mainstream viewers STILL think that Chun is good.

They must be insane, in denial, or there’s a FGC-wide coup to overthrow Chun-Li as capcom’s leading lady

First curse is the original nerfs from season 2. The second curse - although she didn’t receive any nerfs, other top characters and even lower tiered characters received buffs which will shift the meta by more characters becoming stronger while Chun remains weak. This is essentially a nerf for her in the overall meta. Gotta think of patch notes from an overall perspective.
