Chun Li General Thread: Blue Jade

I think that would mean the c.lp, c.lp, s.lk xx L.SBK combo got easier since the charge is carried a bit later.

It means that the game buffer will store your charge inputs for longer.

Basically doing st.LP into SBK and st.MP into fireballs should be easier. It have no other effect than that.

THOSE ARE CHANGES IM WAITING FOR ALL THIS TIME?!?

This is the part I don’t understand.

Cammy is already one of the best characters in the game arguably top 2, and they just gave her more buffs. Lmao!

Is this real life? Anyhow, glad I started playing Cammy and Ibuki.

I saw the writing on the wall a longggggggggggggggg time ago. I knew Chun Li wasn’t getting shit. Chun Li dead.

But look on the bright side. Now we can cancel lk into sbk easier. LMAO!!! This shit is hilarious. Hell, Kolin looking like top tier compared to Chun.

So much for the strongest woman in the world. Capcom lied to us all!

I expected they wouldn’t buff her in any meaningful way, but i was expecting them to pretend they would.
On the other hand, some of the nerfs (especially Urien) make me a little happier.

Cammy is now officially Capcom’s poster girl lol

I have to say it that I don’t get it any more. The dumbest thing I’ve seen for Chun’s BnB is this, and I quote:

This was not in Shoryuken, and I removed the player name for hopefully understandable reasons. s.MP to c.MK being the actual hard part in Chun’s combo? And these people are saying Chun is still OK. Here the nOOb me thought knowing a BnB for each would benefit the neutral game if you spotted them doing the BnB against you and they missed a link. Knowing what comes next makes an easy decision for punishing or not punishing.

I thought the m.SBK BnB would not benefit from the charge window extension as the timing is limited by the frames where c.MK is cancellable and m.SBK being actually linkable, and balancing that with getting enough charge to begin with. If m.SBK BnB benefits from it, then that helps a bit. But that really isn’t just enough.

And I’m seeing people are talking about abandoning Urien for his nerfs (not here at SRK). Like what???

You know, I need some time to digest Capcom and the changes. I’m off to play some Blood Bowl. I’ll get back to here tomorrow, but man does this test my will to keep on going with SFV. Still, my hat off to you Shoryuken people, you rock and post the best stuff of SFV I’ve seen!

Looks like we are waiting for season 3 for Capcom to do anything worthwhile with Chun. But given their track record with her in 4, it might be 4 or 5 more revisions before they actually get serious and add some real MEANINGFUL changes. But lol, Camny gets an airthrow. She really needed that lol.

I ā€œabandonedā€ urien a while back. I don’t like his AA and his v trigger becomes very suspect once people know your setups.

Chun however is fucking done with this new patch in my eyes. Not because she got toned down or anything, but because the top tiers didn’t get toned down enough while midtiers got small buffs. This is an overall meta nerf for Chun.

To me birdie will do most of what I wanted Chun to do:

Now has a strike ā€œinvincibleā€ armor move, this was all Chun really had over him before, along with her weak kikoken. But now that he can call out strikes…

He has pokes that rival or are flat out better than chuns.
Wah better throw game with a command grab.
Better AA game.
Better anti poke game with armoured moves.
Better ranged game with ex dolphin dive.
Better offensive threats with ranged jumping command grab when the opponent isn’t looking for it.

If you play Chun right now, but don’t throw a lot of fireballs, then from a gameplay perspective I don’t see any reason to not play birdie over her.

She needed a throw buff or something of that nature.

Yeah I was holding out for a throw buff since her plus buttons push back too far on top of the IALL nerfs. Didn’t come so that puts her at counter pick tier for me.

Of course they randomly give Gief a move that only counters moves like Chun’s s.HK. Nice.

Chun x Gief is probably at a 2-8 now

No it’s not just referring to this patch to me at least. This was their design philosophy. This is the same BS they said from the get go back at SDCC’s panel discussing what they learned from USF4 - Don’t nerf, just buff. Which amounts to 100% lies. They over nerfed Chun, high level play results demonstrate as such and they have no intentions of giving her anything back.

Capcom makes me sick, it’s clear who they want to see played on TV and tournies.

They want to make money, That’s why they left guile, urien, and balrog top tier. They are DLC characters, Akuma got a minor buff, we are the ones who got screwed. I’m not going to play this game like I use to, might make a permanent change once Injustice comes out.

The patch was a joke and season 3 won’t be able to save it

That moment you thought your low tier character was going to get a buff, but Capcom decides to buff a top tier instead.

Yeah um, I got nothing. Other than the patch notes say ā€œPLAY CAMMY INSTEAD.ā€ Shame, Chun was fun but her piss poor damage is probably going to regulate her into mid tier, also LOL @ Balrog changes. Shaving off a lolworthy of health? That MU is so screwed for Chun, you better have an alt (or use Chun as an alt paired with a top tier) if you want to use her in a tourny setting. Juri didn’t get anything either really (or at least what she needed) they removed her jab AA but Ryu and Necalli get to keep it despite strong uppercut & 1K health? I really don’t understand or agree with many changes other than Capcom has some kind of agenda… :frowning:

After sleeping on it, I still don’t know what to think of these changes. I played a Blood Bowl match yesterday and managed to secure a draw from the jaws of defeat and felt like a winner. That really made me think about it - I still had fun while losing because I knew why I was losing. And the reasons for that were equal opportunity. I don’t get that feeling in Street Fighter 5. I play better with characters I didn’t spend that much time on than with Chun Li who I’ve actually tried to learn.

I’m still agitated, and that’s an accomplishment by the patch notes alone. I couldn’t place my finger on it yesterday why I felt so crushed by the patch notes, I mean it looks as if Capcom really tried to improve things. But then I started to pay more attention to comments like ā€œour vision of [John Doe]ā€¦ā€. Then it dawned on me, Capcom has a kind of draft document for all the characters and how they are supposed to be played. And the prevalent problem seems to be that the characters are not played as per design. This actually shouldn’t surprise anyone who deals with human nature.

What is actually baffling is the Capcom’s response to it: we make anyone to play characters the way we envisioned. By removing those moves that offend the document. The problem is, people already practised and spent a lot of hours honing these skills. If you take that away, make sure you’ll give useful tools to replace them with. I don’t see that much commentary on why when actual human players are involved, the characters deviate from this norm. I don’t see a lot of discussion of the actual tools present vs what they should be able to accomplish. Better yet, don’t remove these things as they have already become part of the character and figure out something else to deal with it.

If balance changes are going to warrant character changes, I think the characters are too hard to learn to be quickly changed to something else at whim - internet opinions, pros, anything, the statistics backing these changes is not very clear to me. Capcom did improve some of their communication with the developer notes in the patch making some of the changes understandable. Hopefully they even tested them beforehand. But Ken players already say Ken will likely not be able to break crouch guard after this patch and it just keeps piling on.

But at the age of 35, I’m really starting to get fed up with this stuff. I deal with this in the normal life, but gaming is supposed to be fun and relaxing. Competitive games can still be fun, and e-sports I thought sort of guaranteed a kind of fair game for everybody. But if there’s blatant favoritism in the game in the sense I see it from the support personnel or even from the pros or semi-pros, that’s the breaking point for me. If you are a pro, you’d damn better make sure every character gets a reasonable shot at winning. Because if you don’t, then you don’t see me watching your streams. You don’t see me attending the tournaments, reducing the cash pot available. You also reduce the number of other pros willing to attend the events which in turn reduces the number of attendees. Understand that by doing this you are eating your own income here.

I’ll give the game until the next balance patch. If it drops without changes to Chun, I’m out. I had to invest to a new GPU, to more memory, and to a fight stick to get the game running and spent some 200 hours playing the game in three past months trying to catch up with the others. But at this point I see it’s the time to cut my losses, my time being the greatest loss. True I could switch to another character and learn it. The problem is, the rate we are going, I’d still never know if it’s actually me or the character.

Sorry about this rant Shoryuken folks, it’s not your doing. It’s probably better to write to Capcom Unity and their European representatives about this.

Watched Ricky- Smug match. Ricky started very offensive and fluent, for a moment i thought there is still some hope, but then Smugs pain train rushed in crushing my dreams.

Well, so far Ricky is 0-3 and looking to be pulling a Daigo. woot woot…

Top tier confirmed.

I’m still holding out on Juri being slept on and being a nice alternative to Chun if you want to control a lot of things in mid to far range, but have better momentum and V System tools than her. Juri doesn’t need a jab AA when she has like 3 other solid AA’s and MP DP is getting buffed back to frame 1 AA invincibility in the patch. Basically don’t need the jab anymore.
